Hi Sillies, I missed a lot in the few hours since I left work. I am still on the workout kick so I am trying to stay on the wagon.

I am planning a mothers day surprise the week before the actual sunday. So far I am thinking of taking 3 days off and going home and taking my mom on a surprise road trip thrift shopping plus some fun stuff too, memorable stuff. Any ideas?

I shoulda checked there  thanks Peter.

Kissey and I were talking about myspace (he has a page - nutty) and I said - why would I need that? I already spend too much time online  and plus, I have my sillies. :)

Hee hee! I have a MySpace page, too. It's usually a wee bit out of date though, because as you say... I spend all my online time here.

Welp, I am off to go color my hair. Nothing crazy, just covering a couple grays and the ever-lightening ends. My hair lightens at the ends all by itself, which is a constant aggravation to me. I think I'm going to sneak out for a haircut while the kids are at school tomorrow.

Should not spend the money  , but man... it's been growing for almost a year without a snip and is getting rather frazzled. Plus it's Spring, and I've been stuck in the house sick for two months. A fresh haircut feels soooooo good. Ah, it's the little things in life...

You guys.... I have dye all over my head and it's looking a bit... light.:unsure:

oh, the heinosity, the egregious unfairness of it all!!!!!!!!!!

Sarah - what coloUR did you use? I HATE the hair dye/gray situation  'tis heinous - I pay this woman about $60 every six to seven weeks to AMELIORATE the coloUr of my stupid hair.....and it's WORSE - not better. So - - I think I"m just back to doing it myself - - HARRUMPh - - the purpose of paying someone to do it is so that it won't turn reddish, and hell, it's freaking RED from her treatments anyway. oh, and CRISPY, too.

:angry::angry:

HARRUMMPHHHFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let us know how your hair turns out......we're here for ya. ;)

OMG - I'm on a Kissey-less night..........how traumatic. We're both working on projects, and he is at his hosue, can you believe this??????????????????

but......next week..............he will have Mini Kissey for 8 days straight..... :o How will I survive?

Ok .. .. .I've dipped into the Lucid so I might ramble a tad. <_<:P

Yay doxy, Sarah!

I haven't read the new Humaworm thread yet, but I do remember Carla saying that the first few days made her feel pretty crappy. But then it got better. Maybe it is the Humaworm, and it'll start easing up in the next day or two!

Yeahhhhh .. . ...I miss smiling .. . .but maybe part of the funk I'm in is that the huma-launch coincided w/ the cycle of regret.

I don't know too much about it, but it stands to reason that someone as sensitive as you are (as am I) would react to the different herbs and things in it. I would be really scared to try it myself.

Ise purty skeert fer starters .. . .but figured the good would outweigh the bad.

I AM wondering about so many dried herbs since, for mold reasons, haven't had any in close to 3yrs.

But you have come a long way, Ptaum, from the time in your life when you were so ill....haven't you? You were very, very sick. Now you have some pretty good days, n'est-ce pas?

Hehe Em . .. ..my first reaction/thought was fear, sadness & idunnowhat at having to think of that time but after a few seconds I came to thinking of how easily these last 2 days would've been the best days, by far, if placed back in the worst years.

In trying to gauge a magnitude - 50x better? 500x better? - I realized it's not something one can attach a number to.

Like if someone really REALLY loves their steak medium-rare, and is 'forced' to eat one well-done :( - we can't say how many times better it is than .. . .say .. . . being waterboarded.

For one, these couple days are barely physically bad, except the biggest hdache in 10mos, which also doesn't compare to those in the old days.

Try to keep looking forward....I am certain that you lost a great deal, but you've got the rest of your life! ...And us to accompany you on the voyage. :):)

I do  youse guys ... ..(is that the absinthe talkin'?)

Yes, I remember Carla saying that things were pretty brutal at first. She said that the first time she tried, she had to stop after a few days because it was just too hard on her. The second time was okay....

Keep it up, Ptaum!

I've kept that in mind & am taking today's 2nd dose soon.

:( I can SOOOOOOOOOO relate to this, Tom. You are not alone, and once again - -NO APOLOGIES IN SILLYVILLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes Susan, I know you're no stranger to these thoughts of mine. What's been lost is so much more than the financial & material. There are years that just don't really count as living.

What I'd give for a simple continuity of existence . . ... .

Pre & during & post-celiac are worlds apart.

So - despite the fact that has all pretty much (blessedly) passed, I know I missed so much, and am not normal. :( I am still just so.........tired a lot of the time. I don't mean the kind of tired that great sleep can cure....I mean - - broken-down-car-on-the-side-of-the-road tired.....as if those decades just took too much out of me......as though it was all a Pyrrhic victory - - won the battle at too great a cost. I don't have a lot of "staying power" - - -and no huge drive any more for a big career....I have become content, but rather complacent.

<she said pyrrhic>

While very well-said, I hope I'm not out of line to add that it also falls short of. . . .of what feels inexpressable to this feeble mind.. . .so. .I don't know how to say it so I'll move on before I get too much more emotional .. . .

<crap .. . . .I meant to go somewhere worthwhile w/ that>

and - - get OFF Yahoo personals - go to Match! IN your area - the pickins should be decent.

Yahoo has plenty. More than a thousand on 1st set of criteria. I narrow it down and there are plenty of fine candidates. Seemingly intelligent & reasonable, desirable women - but I'm not even healthy enough for a simple hike. Last week it was timed at 8min of walking before my back was telling me STOP!.

Skipping all the dreamers who think they'll be taken out dancing on Fri & whisked to Cabo or Tahoe on Sat, I think many would be a great match for some combo of the old (good job & house) & new (on a good day anyway) toms.

I don't think I can expect the kind of woman *I* want to be with to be someone who'd go out w/ some unemployed !@*&.

And I don't know anymore how long it'll be before I can work. Last summer I thought it'd be Nov.

My hair lightens at the ends all by itself, which is a constant aggravation to me.

Huh .. . .. .sounds enticing & a lil sex-ayyeeee to me ;)

I don't think anybody should feel the need to apologize for the downs. Who needs guilt on top of everything!?!?!?!

Don't know how I missed this phrase the first time. It pretty much sums it all up.

Hang in there <insert name, because we all deal with this to some degree every now and again>.

When you do find a partner, Tom, she'll be someone with true depth, and your life will be so much richer for it. (And she'll presumably be someone willing to deal with bug-butt.)

Goeie More, Sillies!! (an Afrikaan Good Morning....cannot remember the Armenian....)

How's the hair look, Sarah? Light can be good.....

I am planning a mothers day surprise the week before the actual sunday. So far I am thinking of taking 3 days off and going home and taking my mom on a surprise road trip thrift shopping plus some fun stuff too, memorable stuff. Any ideas?

Amanda! What a superb idea...you must include a nice lunch between Sally Annes and Value Villages. I would love to do this with my mom, but until she gets her new knee put in (waiting list, of course), she cannot walk all that far. I certainly will not have to take her out to look for BIBS, as a brand new one is comin' her way....

It is interesting to experience how people react to my hands after I've been using red or brown oils and failed to get it all off, particularly from under my nails - - was at the drug store yesterday, reddish-brown stains under nails and around my wrists. I know the pharmacist took an extra long look at me after staring at my hands...trying to get his assistant's attention..."John.....look at this.....should we be calling Social Services? The cops?" Must make more time available for proper hand-scrubbing....and must buy more turp. <_<

but......next week..............he will have Mini Kissey for 8 days straight..... :o How will I survive?

Can you not see him while he's got Li'l Kissey with him, Susie? I'm assuming that you haven't met him yet....will this happen soon? You must be so curious to get to know your love's son--how exciting! Maybe a bit scarey, too?

Hehe Em . .. ..my first reaction/thought was fear, sadness & idunnowhat at having to think of that time but after a few seconds I came to thinking of how easily these last 2 days would've been the best days, by far, if placed back in the worst years.

It's great that you can do this now, Ptaum--at least consider, however fleetingly, your hellish years if just to compare them to your life now. Baby steps..... :)

In trying to gauge a magnitude - 50x better? 500x better? - I realized it's not something one can attach a number to.

Ah! But you are always trying, Mr. MathS!

Even in the funkiest of funks, Ptaum remains a Math-Man......

I have to admit, I hate it too! I totally see myself sometime in the future not minding the grays, but for now, uggghhh... And they won't lay down and behave properly, they have to sproing up every which way.

I used Garnier Fructise Dark Golden Brown. I was a little nervous about the "golden"- like you, I tend to go reddish when I dye. In the end, it turned out ok. But I think next time I'm going back to Feria darkest brown. Looked more natural, I think, and less flat. In fact I don't know why I didn't get that this time, it was really good. <_<

Huh .. . .. .sounds enticing & a lil sex-ayyeeee to me ;)

Evening SILLIES!!!!!!!

You guys.... I have dye all over my head and it's looking a bit... light.:unsure:

...but it's ok....right???

I have a dilemma with the grEy problem.

My hair is many different coloUrs naturally....some blondE ends, mousey brown and some auburny reddish ......

I have noticed more and more grEy ones popping up...but I can't dye it ONE coloUr (TOO flat)......

Definitely can't afford to dye AND have foils (GADS  ...much TOO poor) and seriously can't be arsed to faff around doing it meself.........SO..... .......

For now,...I think I'll avoid tying it back (that's when I can see 'em most):lol: ...ramble, ramble

Sarah...if you're going for the patches (re smoking) careful of the 24 hr ones.........they seriously mess up your sleep <_< ...and give you crazy dreams.

I used to take mine off at night (after about 3 days of disturbed sleep  )

Oh yeah.....smoking whilst wearing a patch = VOMIT :ph34r: (nay recommended)

I have mixed feelings if something you are taking is making you so sick (Humaworm). Other people might not agree with me, but if you are miserable you might consider stopping it, getting stable, and then revisiting it down the line.

Thanks again for the detailed explanation. Just to clarify, I actually did have my initial tests done while I was still consuming gluten. I stopped eating gluten only after those tests were completed, and it has now been about 70 days since I went gluten-free. I understand the limitations around diagnosing NCGS and the importance of antibody testing and biopsy for celiac disease. Unfortunately, where I live, access to comprehensive testing (including total IgA and endoscopy with biopsy) is limited, which makes things more complicated. Your explanation about small-bowel damage, nutrient absorption, and iron-deficiency anemia still aligns closely with my history, and it’s been very helpful in understanding what may be going on. I don't wanna get Endoscopy and I can't start eating Gluten again because it's hurt really with severe diarrhea.  I appreciate you taking the time to share such detailed and informative guidance. Thank you so much for this detailed and thoughtful response. I really appreciate you pointing out the relationship between anemia and antibody patterns, and how the high DGP IgG still supports celiac disease in my case. A gluten challenge isn’t something I feel safe attempting due to how severe my reactions were, so your suggestion about genetic testing makes a lot of sense. I’ll look into whether HLA testing is available where I live and discuss it with my doctor. I also appreciate you mentioning gastrointestinal beriberi and thiamine deficiency. This isn’t something any of my doctors have discussed with me, and given my symptoms and nutritional history, it’s definitely worth raising with them. I’ll also ask about correcting deficiencies more comprehensively, including B vitamins alongside iron. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge and taking the time to help. I’ll update the forum as I make progress.
    • knitty kitty
Blood tests for thiamine are unreliable.  The nutrients from your food get absorbed into the bloodstream and travel around the body.  So, a steak dinner can falsely raise thiamine blood levels in the following days.  Besides, thiamine is utilized inside cells where stores of thiamine are impossible to measure. A better test to ask for is the Erythrocyte Transketolace Activity test.  But even that test has been questioned as to accuracy.  It is expensive and takes time to do.   Because of the discrepancies with thiamine tests and urgency with correcting thiamine deficiency, the World Health Organization recommends giving thiamine for several weeks and looking for health improvement.  Thiamine is water soluble, safe and nontoxic even in high doses.   Many doctors are not given sufficient education in nutrition and deficiency symptoms, and may not be familiar with how often they occur in Celiac disease.  B12 and Vitamin D can be stored for as long as a year in the liver, so not having deficiencies in these two vitamins is not a good indicator of the status of the other seven water soluble B vitamins.  It is possible to have deficiency symptoms BEFORE there's changes in the blood levels.   Ask your doctor about Benfotiamine, a form of thiamine that is better absorbed than Thiamine Mononitrate.  Thiamine Mononitrate is used in many vitamins because it is shelf-stable, a form of thiamine that won't break down sitting around on a store shelf.  This form is difficult for the body to turn into a usable form.  Only thirty percent is absorbed in the intestine, and less is actually used.   Thiamine interacts with all of the other B vitamins, so they should all be supplemented together.  Magnesium is needed to make life sustaining enzymes with thiamine, so a magnesium supplement should be added if magnesium levels are low.   Thiamine is water soluble, safe and nontoxic even in high doses.  There's no harm in trying.
    • lizzie42
Neither of them were anemic 6 months after the Celiac diagnosis. His other vitamin levels (d, B12) were never low. My daughters levels were normal after the first 6 months. Is the thiamine test just called thiamine?

Yes, I do think they need a Thiamine supplement at least. Especially since they eat red meat only occasionally. Most fruits and vegetables are not good sources of Thiamine.  Legumes (beans) do contain thiamine.  Fruits and veggies do have some of the other B vitamins, but thiamine B 1 and  Cobalamine B12 are mostly found in meats.  Meat, especially organ meats like liver, are the best sources of Thiamine, B12, and the six other B vitamins and important minerals like iron.   Thiamine has antibacterial and antiviral properties.  Thiamine is important to our immune systems.  We need more thiamine when we're physically ill or injured, when we're under stress emotionally, and when we exercise, especially outside in hot weather.  We need thiamine and other B vitamins like Niacin B 3 to keep our gastrointestinal tract healthy.  We can't store thiamine for very long.  We can get low in thiamine within three days.  Symptoms can appear suddenly when a high carbohydrate diet is consumed.  (Rice and beans are high in carbohydrates.)  A twenty percent increase in dietary thiamine causes an eighty percent increase in brain function, so symptoms can wax and wane depending on what one eats.  The earliest symptoms like fatigue and anxiety are easily contributed to other things or life events and dismissed.   Correcting nutritional deficiencies needs to be done quickly, especially in children, so their growth isn't stunted.  Nutritional deficiencies can affect intelligence.  Vitamin D deficiency can cause short stature and poor bone formation.   Is your son taking anything for the anemia?  Is the anemia caused by B12 or iron deficiency?

Thank you! That's helpful. My kids eat very little processed food. Tons of fruit, vegetables, cheese, eggs and occasional red meat. We do a lot of rice and bean bowls, stir fry, etc.  Do you think with all the fruits and vegetables they need a vitamin supplement? I feel like their diet is pretty healthy and balanced with very limited processed food. The only processed food they eat regularly is a bowl of Cheerios here and there.  Could shaking legs be a symptom of just a one-time gluten exposure? I guess there's no way to know for sure if they're getting absolutely zero exposure because they do go to school a couple times a week. We do homeschool but my son does a shared school 2x a week and my daughter does a morning Pre-K 3 x a week.  At home our entire house is strictly gluten free and it is extremely rare for us to eat out. If we eat at someone else's house I usually just bring their food. When we have play dates we bring all the snacks, etc. I try to be really careful since they're still growing. They also, of course, catch kids viruses all the time so I  want to make sure I know whether they're just sick or they've had gluten. It can be pretty confusing when they're pretty young to even be explaining their symptoms!
