That is an incredible amount of sugar in one place!

But, is it gluten-free? Inquiring minds want to know.

I get ill just thinking about it......and I'm not a diabetic! :P

Hello Sillies- I somehow went into hiding <_< Hmm...twas a long weekend here and there was Much Ado. Saturday was my BIL's birthday so everyone came over for barbequebusness and birthday cake. Then we had friends over Sunday for more grilling and yesterday was my niece's 6th birthday......busy, busy, busy.

I read a bit to catch up- sorry about all the injuries, perfumings, blisters, premenstrual nastiness and all other things.

I ain't got no silly in me. My one year anniversary of starting antibiotics is next week and I still feel Lymey. Thought it would be over by now :( .

OK- I do have some phunny in me..........have you guys seen Open Original Shared Link on Flickr? Oh...funny stuff!!!!!!!!!!

This is one of my favorites:

Ok- Found some funnies:

First Cut is the Deepest

Once upon a time, two little boys, Sammy and Tim, were sharing a room in the hospital. As they were getting to know each other a little bit, Sammy eventually asked Tim, "Hey, what're you in for?"

"I'm getting my tonsils out. I'm a little worried," said Tim.

"Oh, don't worry about it," Sammy said. "I had my tonsils out and it was a blast! I got to eat all the ice cream and Jell-O I wanted for two weeks!"

"Oh yeah?'' replied Tim. "That's not half-bad. So, Sammy, how about you? What're you here for?"

"I'm getting a circumcision, whatever that is," Sammy answered.

"Oh my god, circumcision? I got one of those when I was a baby and I couldn't walk for two years!"

or.....

Let's Talk

A guy was seated next to a 10-year-old girl on an airplane. Being bored, he turned to the girl and said, "Let's talk. I've heard that flights go quicker if you strike up a conversation with your fellow passenger."

The girl, who was reading a book, closed it slowly and said to the guy, "What would you like to talk about?"

Oh, I don't know," said the guy. "How about nuclear power?"

"OK," she said. "That could be an interesting topic. But let me ask you a question first. A horse, a cow and a deer all eat the same stuff... grass. Yet a deer excretes little pellets, while a cow turns out a flat patty, and a horse produces clumps of dried grass. Why do you suppose that is?"

The guy thought about it and said, "Hmmm, I have no idea."

To which the girl replied, "Do you really feel qualified to discuss nuclear power when you don't know sh@*t?"

Hi, Julie and Bev! :):)

We were just wondering aloud about both of you last night...funny how it's so obvious when there's a silly or two missing for a couple of pages. Your absences are felt.....

Julie, it's been more than a couple of pages for you! Glad to hear you are okay...

Bev! A year on antibiotics? Man......Big Pharma luuurrrrves you, I'm afraid..... :(

Jess! How are Lefty, Max and Lyle, the Three Cabalieros?

Bev & Julie - happy you guys could poop in . . . now we can stop speculating. Hope you're feeling better soon, Julie. And hope you quit feeling so lymey, Bev.

I sent that to both of my kids, as they are now just about old enough (i.e., far enough away from the terrible twos) to find it amusing....

You MUST try Bacardi Breezers (can you get them in the US?)

White rum mixed with fruit juice and sparkling water :P

No laboUr

Pleasant buzz

Um.......do we have those here? I want some! :P

Did you see "The Worst Summer Cocktail"? They said it is Pina Colata, but that the mo-hee-to is a much better choice! Thought that would be some good news for the Kisseys :D

:D Yes, good news for the Kisseys......they were mighty tasty last night! But 'twill be an infrequent treat, too much laboUr for so fleeting a pleasure.....

 Indeed, and makes me wonder, are they in cahoots w/ Mr. Chow, somehow? Some sort of meditative tai chi?

BEV!!!!!!!!!!!!!! good funnies and - sounds like you are plum wore out from your weekend.... one year on abx?? :( this is heinous.......can't be long now, can it? You WILL be better soon!!!!!!!!!!! :)

and there's Julie.........oh honey - - knew you weren't well when we didn't see you for a while.....glad you're out of it now and you've come to play.

OMG that sugar drink - - could throw up just thinking about it

And speaking of sugar - Em and Peter - - my first cousin is a very severe diabetic (also w/ Crohn's, hashimoto's, and very definitely Celiac but won't remove gluten <_< ) anywho, Jean Marie has been severely afflicted w/ diabetes since - her teens, maybe? eats TONS of sugar, and just uses more insulin. what in hell? has an insulin pump on her body. Um, this girl has almost lost her foot from gangenous diabetic atrophy of some kind.....just nearly died of kidney failure...has gone into horrible near-diabetic comas and in hospital for long periods of time...but......doesn't really change her diet. Charming, darling girl.......always very, very sick......and was addicted to Bella Donna for about 30 years (opium, right?) that her dad prescribed for her because her stomach was always in so much pain. <shaking head> so - shouldn't she NOT eat sweets? <not that she would make any changes> It's very sad........I'm sure she'll not live long. Alas, 'tis another crazy relative that we don't talk to so......won't affect my life directly. :(

okay - back to silly - and yard work - and........................OMG carpet shampooing is coming up soon.......EGREGIOUS................................

Glad you at least got this figured out, Amanda - - I remember you being concerned about breathing troubles during exercise....

Susie! It always breaks my heart to hear stories about people, especially young people, who refuse to take control of their diabetes and end up with all of the serious, but essentially unavoidable, complications like blindness, gangrene/amputation, kidney failure....how very sad. And she's on a pump? Gad, there is absolutely NO excuse - - the insulin pump makes things so much easier for those who have brittle control....

Wow. Not much more to say. King Diabetic Peter?.....

There isn't really anything I can add to what Emily said. It is sad to see something like that, and know what lies ahead. But she's in denial and there is really nothing anybody can do to force her to change.

Arrrrrggggh! The weather forecast for tonight contains the words "frost warning." :(

I know.....she won't do anything to change these things except - take steroids, maybe? is that the prescription? I don't know......we speak to her/see her once a year, on Thanksgiving. She's my age, so much fun, and we have so much in common........but she makes no effort with us and doesn't follow through. :( Has two kids, divorced, always sick, went through rehab at least twice for her painkiller addiction......great to hang out with but I can't emotionally invest, she shows up for a bit, then vanishes for.....a decade or so. :( Her husband is fighting for full custody and may get it.

Okay.....Kissey and I have had an argument. :o this is our second one, total. OMG - - OMG - - OMG. What is the world coming to? It stresses me out.........

Amanda - hope you get your sinus infection under control soon..........

OMGAWD- can't believe the temper tantrum video came to Sillyville- we have been talking about it all weekend. Saturday the "men" were playing bocci in the backyard when my 3 year old nephew Cooper walked out and went to grab one of the balls (my sis and I had just run out for ice cream). All the guys yelled, "Cooper, NOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!" and he started bawling his eyes out.

My sis and I return home and he is in his mum's arms doing much better. Takes one look at me and explodes again, "Auntie BEEEEVVVVVVVVVV". EVERYONE cracked up. Poor wee Cooper!!!!!! Too funny!

Bev & Julie - happy you guys could poop in . . . now we can stop speculating. Hope you're feeling better soon, Julie. And hope you quit feeling so lymey, Bev.

Ooh...what did you think Julie and I were doing? :o we do have a secret plan to vacation in Fiji once we both feel better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I absolutely hate that it's a whole year and you're still fighting the Lymmies

You and me both- I have to keep reminding myself that the reason I'm still doing battle is that I had it for a LONG time, but I also have 4 other tick-borne infections :(

Hello, @asaT, I'm curious to know whether you are taking other B vitamins like Thiamine B1 and Niacin B3.  Malabsorption in Celiac disease affects all the water soluble B vitamins and Vitamin C.  Thiamine and Niacin are required to produce energy for all the homocysteine lowering reactions provided by Folate, Cobalamine and Pyridoxine.   Weight gain with a voracious appetite is something I experienced while malnourished.  It's symptomatic of Thiamine B1 deficiency.   Conversely, some people with thiamine deficiency lose their appetite altogether, and suffer from anorexia.  At different periods on my lifelong journey, I suffered this, too.   When the body doesn't have sufficient thiamine to turn food, especially carbohydrates, into energy (for growth and repair), the body rations what little thiamine it has available, and turns the carbs into fat, and stores it mostly in the abdomen.  Consuming a high carbohydrate diet requires additional thiamine to process the carbs into energy.  Simple carbohydrates (sugar, white rice, etc.) don't contain thiamine, so the body easily depletes its stores of Thiamine processing the carbs into fat.  The digestive system communicates with the brain to keep eating in order to consume more thiamine and other nutrients it's not absorbing.   One can have a subclinical thiamine insufficiency for years.  A twenty percent increase in dietary thiamine causes an eighty percent increase in brain function, so the symptoms can wax and wane mysteriously.  Symptoms of Thiamine insufficiency include stunted growth, chronic fatigue, and Gastrointestinal Beriberi (diarrhea, abdominal pain), heart attack, Alzheimer's, stroke, and cancer.   Thiamine improves bone turnover.  Thiamine insufficiency can also affect the thyroid.  The thyroid is important in bone metabolism.  The thyroid also influences hormones, like estrogen and progesterone, and menopause.  Vitamin D, at optimal levels, can act as a hormone and can influence the thyroid, as well as being important to bone health, and regulating the immune system.  Vitamin A is important to bone health, too, and is necessary for intestinal health, as well.   I don't do dairy because I react to Casein, the protein in dairy that resembles gluten and causes a reaction the same as if I'd been exposed to gluten, including high tTg IgA.  I found adding mineral water containing calcium and other minerals helpful in increasing my calcium intake.   Malabsorption of Celiac affects all the vitamins and minerals.  I do hope you'll talk to your doctor and dietician about supplementing all eight B vitamins and the four fat soluble vitamins because they all work together interconnectedly.

Hi Jane: You may want to try the D3 I now take. I have reactions to fillers and many additives. Sports Research, it is based in the USA and I have had no bad reactions with this brand. The D3 does have coconut oil but it is non GMO, it is Gluten free, Soy free, Soybean free and Safflower oil free.  I have a cupboard full of supplements that did not agree with me -  I just keep trying and have finally settled on Sports Research. I take NAKA Women's Multi full spectrum, and have not felt sick after taking 2 capsules per day -  it is a Canadian company. I buy both from Amazon. I wish you well in your searching, I know how discouraging it all is. Florence.

highly unlikely  NOTHING and I mean NOTHING else has ever caused me these kinds of symptoms I have no problem with dates, they are a large part of my diet In fact, I eat a very high fiber, very high vegetable and bean diet and have for many years now. It's considered a whole foods plant based or plant forward diet (I do now eat some lean ground turkey but not much) I was off dairy for years but recently had to add back plain yogurt to meet calcium needs that I am not allowed to get from supplements (I have not had any problem with the yogurt)   I eat almost no processed foods. I don't eat out. almost everything I eat, I cook myself I am going to keep a food diary but to be honest, I already know that it's wheat products and also barley that are the problem, which is why I gradually stopped eating and buying them. When I was eating them, like back in early 2024, when I was in the middle of moving and ate out (always had bread or toast or rolls or a sub or pizza) I felt terrible but at that time was so busy and exhausted that I never stopped to think it was the food. Once I was in my new place, I continued to have bread from time to time and had such horrible joint pain that I was preparing for 2 total knee replacements as well as one hip! The surgery could not go forward as I was (and still am) actively losing calcium from my bones. That problem has yet to be properly diagnosed and treated   anyway over time I realized that I felt better when I stopped eating bread. Back at least 3 yrs ago I noticed that regular pasta made me sick so I switched to brown rice pasta and even though it costs a lot more, I really like it.   so gradually I just stopped buying and eating foods with gluten. I stopped getting raisin bran when I was constipated because it made me bloated and it didn't help the constipation any more (used to be a sure bet that it would in the past)   I made cookies and brownies using beans and rolled oats and dates and tahini and I LOVE them and have zero issues eating those I eat 1 or more cans of beans per day easily can eat a pound of broccoli - no problem! Brussels sprouts the same thing.   so yeh it's bread and related foods that are clearly the problem  there is zero doubt in my mind

Thank you for your post, @nanny marley It is interesting what you say about 'It's OK not to sleep'. Worrying about sleeping only makes it much harder to sleep.  One of my relatives is an insomniac and I am sure that is part of the problem.  Whereas I once had a neighbour who, if she couldn't sleep, would simply get up again, make a cup of tea, read, do a sudoku or some other small task, and then go back to bed when she felt sleepy again.  I can't think it did her any harm - she lived  well into her nineties. Last week I decided to try a Floradix Magnesium supplement which seems to be helping me to sleep better.  It is a liquid magnesium supplement, so easy to take.  It is gluten free (unlike the Floradix iron supplement).  Might be worth a try.

It could be a fructan intolerance? How do you do with dates?  https://www.dietvsdisease.org/sorry-your-gluten-sensitivity-is-actually-a-fructan-intolerance/
