Ohhh and I forgot Anthony Lapalgia on my laminate list too! He was a cutie in Empire Records!

I loved that movie Empire Records!

LOVE the rest of 'em.......Brad Pitt WAS a hottie back then.........but I don't carry teh torch for any former hotties.....I mean, I"m looking at yer av's and not swooning a'tall......I am SOOOOOOOO over those guys. I mean, mygawd, if I still liked my old swoon/crushes, I'd have a picture of PHONZIE up there.  and, EWWW.

eh, Brad Pitt doesn't do it for me anymore either. When he was in LOTF, holy smokes!!!! And Troy.

PHONZIE

You do have a point about former torches, look at my Corey Haim now  And gah!! I would have had John Taylor of Duran Duran on there.

Still thinking on my current list, I like a variety of men. I find humour attractive too Janet, I LOVE phunnie guys like Adam Sandler and Kevin James.

Saw an Andy Gibb concert in junior high - now HE was a hottie.

There is something about the Gibb men, well Barry and Andy anyway....and Maurice a little bit in his own way.

SILLIES - I am losing my mind. My OWN HOUSE KEY is NOT on my key chain. Um, where in hell is it? the lady from the auto shop dropped me off, I went to unlock my front door......no key.

Ok if all else fails try this. I am reading the prequel to Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood and they mention St Anthony's Prayer for Lost Objects......St Anthony St Anthony won't you look around, something has been lost and it must be found. Maybe it only works if you are Catholic, not sure

Yes!! Leif Garret, Bay City Rollers......my daughter gets this mag now and then (still in print!). I wonder if she swoons like I did. I hear her and her 15 year-old girlfriends in her room, laughing and screeching with her pile of mags.......love to be a phly on that wall..........

That magazine is still around?!:rolleyes:

Gawd, I was such a dork I used to cut out all the pictures and put them in a photo album

GAWWWWWWWD finally got caught up.

Amanda-  I wasn't on last night so I didn't get to read this. It's beautiful.

Families are a bond you share that is unbreakable, it can withstand the goodtimes and bad and your family will always be there to pick you up when you fall, or when you lose your way on the beaten path. One thing that I have learned about families is there is not always a blood connection. I have quite the extended family, and my Phamily comes from as close as 2 hrs away in PA, to my family on the East Coast where the lighthouses guide the incoming ships, to the Midwest where tornados and flat land are plenty, to the Wst Coast where there is beautiful hiking, they also extend up into Canada where winter is downright COLD and across the pond to Europe where I would love to visit. My family bond I have with these members continues to grow stronger and everyday I am reminded how thankful I am to know such wonderful pholks! I dont know what I would do without you guys, but I am sure glad I have you!

Friends may come and go but Sillies are Forever!!!!!!!

I guess I'm off to go google some trees. My crabapple is too close to the house (previous owners <_< ) and also had some drainage issues there that are fixed now but I think it did the tree in . . . too wet for too long. I need to replace it (at a respectable distance).

Judy, expert gardener, know anything about trees? I've got conflicting opinion. I was going to put in a Dogwood tree (my fave) and have been told that it will do fine and have been told not to do it there. It would get a lot of sun. (I think we're in zone 5 if that helps). I'm not wanting anything that gets too big 25' by 25' or so.

BAHHHHH .l . . must find a spot for a Dogwood!!!!

Do you know who is my new hero? Quite incredible as we talk about rock stars from our past......this guy has never done a thing for me, never even liked his singing....but I now just love him - - he's caustically, subtly heelarryus, very intelligent, clean (no drugs/booze....dunno about the dirt-free clean, but he looks like he'd smell okay, now).........

GENE SIMMONS! :huh::lol:

There is something so........unabashedly PHUNNY, and cheesily charming, about his reality show. And he remains the phunniest thing on TV at that time.

If you're googling, check out the Japanese Maple. Two summers ago we put one in our back corner. Lots of sun, and it is flourishing. They are apparently very hardy trees.....they tolerate drought periods as well as a lot of moisture, and they grow to 25', with a nice canopy. Ours has red leaves.....quite lovely. :)

Those are very nice. We had one at our former house in the back yard--the owners before us put it in, and it did well the whole 7+ years we lived there. It got the morning sun. B)

Yes, I do like those, too (probably my second fave) . . . we have one in the front yard so I was looking for something different. Plus, the previous owners so totally overplanted this yard that I haven't been able to put in what I want. We've only be removing trees and bushes as they get too big for the locations they are in and we have to thin them out - leaving no room to put anything new in. People are flabbergasted when I tell them that we have removed over 3 dozen bushes and probably about 6 trees since we have moved in . . . they look like this . . . . . . then look around to see if they can tell where they were . . . and they can't.

My googling shows that I can plant a Dogwood in full sun . . . and that's what I'm gonna do, dammit!!!

One of the best emails I've ever gotten from me mum . . .

Diet Questions Answered

Q: I've heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life; is this true?

A: Your heart is only good for so many beats, and that's it... don't waste them on exercise. Everything wears out eventually. Speeding up your heart will not make you live longer; that's like saying you can extend the life of your car by driving it faster. Want to live longer? Take a nap.

---------------------------------------------------------------- ------

Q: Should I cut down on meat and eat more fruits and vegetables?

A: You must grasp logistical efficiencies. What does a cow eat? Hay and corn. And what are these? Vegetables. So a steak is nothing more than an efficient mechanism of delivering vegetables to your system. Need grain? Eat chicken. Beef is also a good source of field grass (green leafy vegetable). And a pork chop can give you 100% of your recommended daily allowance of vegetable products.

------------------- ---------------------------------------------------

Q: Should I reduce my alcohol intake?

A: No, not at all. Wine is made from fruit. Brandy is distilled wine. That means they take the water out of the fruity bit so you get even more of the goodness that way. Beer is made out of grain. Bottoms up!

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: How can I calculate my body/fat ratio?

A: Well, if you have a body and you have fat, your ratio is one to one. If you have two bodies, your ratio is two to one, etc.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Aren't fried foods bad for you?

A: YOU'RE NOT LISTENING!!!.... Foods are fried these days in vegetable oil. In fact, they're permeated in it. How could getting more vegetables be bad for you?

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Will sit-ups help prevent me from getting a little soft around the middle?

A: Definitely not! When you exercise a muscle, it gets bigger. You should only be doing sit-ups if you want a bigger stomach.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Is swimming good for your figure?

A: If swimming is good for your figure, explain whales to me.

- ---------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Is getting in-shape important for my lifestyle?

A: Hey! 'Round' is a shape!

Well, I hope this has cleared up any misconceptions you may have had about food and diets.

Remember:

'Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming 'WOO HOO! What a Ride'

For those of you who watch what you eat, here's the final word on nutrition and health.

It's a relief to know the truth after all those conflicting nutritional studies.

1. The Japanese eat very little fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

2. The Mexicans eat a lot of fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

3. The Chinese drink very little red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

4. The Italians drink a lot of red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

5. The Germans drink a lot of beer and eat lots of sausages and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

CONCLUSION:

Eat and drink what you like. Speaking English is apparently what kills you.

Just here for a sec... sent Susie an email that she can pass on.

I wish I could say I'm doing ok... I hate dragging people down... but it's been pretty bad. Crying nonstop... The kids aren't doing well either. If I never saw this coming, you know they didn't by about a thousand times more.

Hello, @asaT, I'm curious to know whether you are taking other B vitamins like Thiamine B1 and Niacin B3.  Malabsorption in Celiac disease affects all the water soluble B vitamins and Vitamin C.  Thiamine and Niacin are required to produce energy for all the homocysteine lowering reactions provided by Folate, Cobalamine and Pyridoxine.   Weight gain with a voracious appetite is something I experienced while malnourished.  It's symptomatic of Thiamine B1 deficiency.   Conversely, some people with thiamine deficiency lose their appetite altogether, and suffer from anorexia.  At different periods on my lifelong journey, I suffered this, too.   When the body doesn't have sufficient thiamine to turn food, especially carbohydrates, into energy (for growth and repair), the body rations what little thiamine it has available, and turns the carbs into fat, and stores it mostly in the abdomen.  Consuming a high carbohydrate diet requires additional thiamine to process the carbs into energy.  Simple carbohydrates (sugar, white rice, etc.) don't contain thiamine, so the body easily depletes its stores of Thiamine processing the carbs into fat.  The digestive system communicates with the brain to keep eating in order to consume more thiamine and other nutrients it's not absorbing.   One can have a subclinical thiamine insufficiency for years.  A twenty percent increase in dietary thiamine causes an eighty percent increase in brain function, so the symptoms can wax and wane mysteriously.  Symptoms of Thiamine insufficiency include stunted growth, chronic fatigue, and Gastrointestinal Beriberi (diarrhea, abdominal pain), heart attack, Alzheimer's, stroke, and cancer.   Thiamine improves bone turnover.  Thiamine insufficiency can also affect the thyroid.  The thyroid is important in bone metabolism.  The thyroid also influences hormones, like estrogen and progesterone, and menopause.  Vitamin D, at optimal levels, can act as a hormone and can influence the thyroid, as well as being important to bone health, and regulating the immune system.  Vitamin A is important to bone health, too, and is necessary for intestinal health, as well.   I don't do dairy because I react to Casein, the protein in dairy that resembles gluten and causes a reaction the same as if I'd been exposed to gluten, including high tTg IgA.  I found adding mineral water containing calcium and other minerals helpful in increasing my calcium intake.   Malabsorption of Celiac affects all the vitamins and minerals.  I do hope you'll talk to your doctor and dietician about supplementing all eight B vitamins and the four fat soluble vitamins because they all work together interconnectedly.

Hi Jane: You may want to try the D3 I now take. I have reactions to fillers and many additives. Sports Research, it is based in the USA and I have had no bad reactions with this brand. The D3 does have coconut oil but it is non GMO, it is Gluten free, Soy free, Soybean free and Safflower oil free.  I have a cupboard full of supplements that did not agree with me -  I just keep trying and have finally settled on Sports Research. I take NAKA Women's Multi full spectrum, and have not felt sick after taking 2 capsules per day -  it is a Canadian company. I buy both from Amazon. I wish you well in your searching, I know how discouraging it all is. Florence.

highly unlikely  NOTHING and I mean NOTHING else has ever caused me these kinds of symptoms I have no problem with dates, they are a large part of my diet In fact, I eat a very high fiber, very high vegetable and bean diet and have for many years now. It's considered a whole foods plant based or plant forward diet (I do now eat some lean ground turkey but not much) I was off dairy for years but recently had to add back plain yogurt to meet calcium needs that I am not allowed to get from supplements (I have not had any problem with the yogurt)   I eat almost no processed foods. I don't eat out. almost everything I eat, I cook myself I am going to keep a food diary but to be honest, I already know that it's wheat products and also barley that are the problem, which is why I gradually stopped eating and buying them. When I was eating them, like back in early 2024, when I was in the middle of moving and ate out (always had bread or toast or rolls or a sub or pizza) I felt terrible but at that time was so busy and exhausted that I never stopped to think it was the food. Once I was in my new place, I continued to have bread from time to time and had such horrible joint pain that I was preparing for 2 total knee replacements as well as one hip! The surgery could not go forward as I was (and still am) actively losing calcium from my bones. That problem has yet to be properly diagnosed and treated   anyway over time I realized that I felt better when I stopped eating bread. Back at least 3 yrs ago I noticed that regular pasta made me sick so I switched to brown rice pasta and even though it costs a lot more, I really like it.   so gradually I just stopped buying and eating foods with gluten. I stopped getting raisin bran when I was constipated because it made me bloated and it didn't help the constipation any more (used to be a sure bet that it would in the past)   I made cookies and brownies using beans and rolled oats and dates and tahini and I LOVE them and have zero issues eating those I eat 1 or more cans of beans per day easily can eat a pound of broccoli - no problem! Brussels sprouts the same thing.   so yeh it's bread and related foods that are clearly the problem  there is zero doubt in my mind

Thank you for your post, @nanny marley It is interesting what you say about 'It's OK not to sleep'. Worrying about sleeping only makes it much harder to sleep.  One of my relatives is an insomniac and I am sure that is part of the problem.  Whereas I once had a neighbour who, if she couldn't sleep, would simply get up again, make a cup of tea, read, do a sudoku or some other small task, and then go back to bed when she felt sleepy again.  I can't think it did her any harm - she lived  well into her nineties. Last week I decided to try a Floradix Magnesium supplement which seems to be helping me to sleep better.  It is a liquid magnesium supplement, so easy to take.  It is gluten free (unlike the Floradix iron supplement).  Might be worth a try.

It could be a fructan intolerance? How do you do with dates?  https://www.dietvsdisease.org/sorry-your-gluten-sensitivity-is-actually-a-fructan-intolerance/
