It's been a long time since I could laugh like that. It hasn't been very psillie in my house for a few weeks. We've been having HUGE problems with our son.

Detention does not even work. Nothing works. We're to the point where he is no more than a boarder in our home. We are almost positive he will move out on his 16th B-Day. At which point he is the provinces problem. We have detached ourselves as much as possible.

I feel bad because I was the one who used to try and give him the benefit of the doubt and trust him. This past weekend, he not only lost that trust, he blew it up. I will have a hard time EVER believing a word that comes out his his mouth.

At the same time, since he's moved in (spent the last year at my MIL's) things have been chaos. my wife and I are fighting more, and our poor daughter, she oblivious to the whole thing thank God..

Sorry for venting, but I'm at a loss here :blink::wacko::huh:

Ryan, I hear you loud and clear!!!!!!

GADS, got a pretty similar thing going on meself.......living with my youngest son is like living with a ticking bomb.....you never know when it's gonna blow....but one thing's for sure ...it always does

My morning was off to a flying start with said devil child REFUSING to go to school unit (HE'S not at a school, they won't have him  )...SCREAMING at me and slamming out the house

I SOOoo tried NOT to raise to the bait....but I snapped <_<

OH JOY

...and yes!! my son would LAUGH at detention..get up and walk out probably

Ryan, I think you're right in saying you have to step back/close your mind to it to a degree....<_< ...as it affects ALL the family.

Methinks there is gravel (er sumfin' else) in her gullet, stuck there. <_<

What???..like geese or summat???

And Bevvy is SO RIGHT.........I need to be in a patchouli-wearing mojito-drinking Big Sur commune wif dogs and trash cans and ground-cover (native plants)

Me & cats come too???

Mygaawd - I have been distinctly unsilly...must snap out of it!!!!!!!!

OH!!!...talking of CHA-CHING Vetinary bills wee Boris is going in tomorrow to be  DE - furry peanuted :o:lol:

Morning, Sillies!

Wee Boris de-peanutted... . . .....poor chap! <_<

Yes, Jess. . . . you must arrange another surgery of some sort - - something more serious, that requires months, not weeks, of convalescence. Installation of an artificial joint? Brain surgery? Must work on this, I say. . . . . ...... .:rolleyes:

Soooozie's trash can is OUTSIDE THE FENCE!!:unsure:

Dear gawd.. . . ....you've told her, and there has not as yet been a reaction. .. . it's delayed, I fear. Methinks you're gonna have to Bungee the Stepford - - visible trash paraphrenalia is, I am certain, an unendurable torture for this one.. ...

OK, How in H*** would they know that????

Do they put people in a room with monitors in their ears and have people in scary masks jump out at them?

Or maybe they just show them what their taxes are gonna be next month.

Or in Susie's case it would just be Stepford looking at her thoughtfully, with purpose...

:lol: Bev!! What in hell?? What does it explain about you?? Do you produce a great deal of earwax, and are also phrequently phrightened? I actually do produce a fair amount meself. . . . . but I do not believe that I spend much time in phear. . . . . ....

Hmmm. . . . . must ponder this. . . . . .. ..

But wait . .....The bigger question, of course, is WHY IN HELL does FEAR cause an explosion in earwax production?? I think it's like sweat, but in your ears.

Do you have more earwax after you run?

Ask Jack to devise a method to measure this for you.

Just wanted to post before I get too busy to be on line . . . Friday morning I will leave for my annual girl's trip to Hilton Head. I shall be gone from Friday to Tuesday. I shall drink overpriced pina coladas for all of you.

. . . and here's a question . . . Why is it that when my husband goes on a golf trip with the guys, he packs his bag and leaves?? When I go on a trip, I have to stock the fridge with more than twice as much food as they will eat . . . so that he can readily find something to serve them. All the laundry has to be done. A detailed schedule for each child and the dog must be written out . . . It's sooooo much work to take a few days off.

Good morning, Sillies!

I was out wif me hot tubbing gals last evening, not tubbing. .. ...just a 40th birthday celebration for one of us. My girlfirend cooked roast beef, and as we were leaving someone asked her what spices she'd used on it, as it was truly incredible. She then mentioned that she had dabbed some Lea and Perrins on the meat before cooking it :o:unsure: . (Worchestershire sauce, in Canada, has malt in it). Sooooooooo . ....... . . ..she apologised all over the place when I told her that the sauce has gluten in it (but that I should be fine.........right....), saying she takes real pride in being careful with gluten-free cooking. Bah.

Well, this morning I'm crampy and poopy.

But it was worth it.. . . . . .a great night. We solved all the problems of the world. :)

@Jane02, I hear you about the kale and collard greens.  I don't do dairy and must eat green leafies, too, to get sufficient calcium.  I must be very careful because some calcium supplements are made from ground up crustacean shells.  When I was deficient in Vitamin D, I took high doses of Vitamin D to correct the deficiency quickly.  This is safe and nontoxic.  Vitamin D level should be above 70 nmol/L.  Lifeguards and indigenous Pacific Islanders typically have levels between 80-100 nmol/L.   Levels lower than this are based on amount needed to prevent disease like rickets and osteomalacia. We need more thiamine when we're physically ill, emotionally and mentally stressed, and if we exercise like an athlete or laborer.  We need more thiamine if we eat a diet high in simple carbohydrates.  For every 500 kcal of carbohydrates, we need 500-1000 mg more of thiamine to process the carbs into energy.  If there's insufficient thiamine the carbs get stored as fat.  Again, recommended levels set for thiamine are based on minimum amounts needed to prevent disease.  This is often not adequate for optimum health, nor sufficient for people with absorption problems such as Celiac disease.  Gluten free processed foods are not enriched with vitamins like their gluten containing counterparts.  Adding a B Complex and additional thiamine improves health for Celiacs.  Thiamine is safe and nontoxic even in high doses.  Thiamine helps the mitochondria in cells to function.  Thiamine interacts with each of the other B vitamins.  They are all water soluble and easily excreted if not needed. Interesting Reading: Clinical trial: B vitamins improve health in patients with coeliac disease living on a gluten-free diet https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19154566/ Safety and effectiveness of vitamin D mega-dose: A systematic review https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34857184/ High dose dietary vitamin D allocates surplus calories to muscle and growth instead of fat via modulation of myostatin and leptin signaling https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38766160/ Safety of High-Dose Vitamin D Supplementation: Secondary Analysis of a Randomized Controlled Trial https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31746327/ Vitamins and Celiac Disease: Beyond Vitamin D https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC11857425/ Investigating the therapeutic potential of tryptophan and vitamin A in modulating immune responses in celiac disease: an experimental study https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/40178602/ Investigating the Impact of Vitamin A and Amino Acids on Immune Responses in Celiac Disease Patients https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10814138/

Thank you so much @knitty kitty for this insightful information! I would have never considered fractionated coconut oil to be a potential source of GI upset. I will consider all the info you shared. Very interesting about the Thiamine deficiency.  I've tracked daily averages of my intake in a nutrition software. The only nutrient I can't consistently meet from my diet is vitamin D. Calcium is a hit and miss as I rely on vegetables, dark leafy greens as a major source, for my calcium intake. I'm able to meet it when I either eat or juice a bundle of kale or collard greens daily haha. My thiamine intake is roughly 120% of my needs, although I do recognize that I may not be absorbing all of these nutrients consistently with intermittent unintentional exposures to gluten.  My vitamin A intake is roughly 900% (~6400 mcg/d) of my needs as I eat a lot of sweet potato, although since it's plant-derived vitamin A (beta-carotene) apparently it's not likely to cause toxicity.  Thanks again!
    • knitty kitty
Hello, @Jane02,  I take Naturewise D 3.  It contains olive oil.   Some Vitamin D supplements, like D Drops, are made with fractionated coconut oil which can cause digestive upsets.  Fractionated coconut oil is not the same as coconut oil used for cooking.  Fractionated coconut oil has been treated for longer shelf life, so it won't go bad in the jar, and thus may be irritating to the digestive system. I avoid supplements made with soy because many people with Celiac Disease also react to soy.  Mixed tocopherols, an ingredient in Thornes Vitamin D, may be sourced from soy oil.  Kirkland's has soy on its ingredient list. I avoid things that might contain or be exposed to crustaceans, like Metagenics says on its label.  I have a crustacean/shellfish/fish allergy.  I like Life Extension Bioactive Complete B Complex.  I take additional Thiamine B 1 in the form Benfotiamine which helps the intestines heal, Life Extension MegaBenfotiamine. Thiamine is needed to activate Vitamin D.   Low thiamine can make one feel like they are getting glutened after a meal containing lots of simple carbohydrates like white rice, or processed gluten free foods like cookies and pasta.   It's rare to have a single vitamin deficiency.  The water soluble B Complex vitamins should be supplemented together with additional Thiamine in the form Benfotiamine and Thiamine TTFD (tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide) to correct subclinical deficiencies that don't show up on blood tests.  These are subclinical deficiencies within organs and tissues.  Blood is a transportation system.  The body will deplete tissues and organs in order to keep a supply of thiamine in the bloodstream going to the brain and heart.   If you're low in Vitamin D, you may well be low in other fat soluble vitamins like Vitamin A and Vitamin K. Have you seen a dietician?

I do not know this, but since they are labelled gluten-free, and are not really a product that could easily be contaminated when making them (there would be not flour in the air of such a facility, for example), I don't really see contamination as something to be concerned about for this type of product.
