*******Jack's fascinating phact of the day:*********

On average, women say 7,000 words a day. Men say 1,200 words a day.

Ha!!

Except for two guys I dated........both very brilliant. Both hyper-analytical............absolutely WORE ME OUT. That was the end.........they talked too much and wanted to talk about every fact, feeling, nuance, how *I* was feeling, etc. made me psychotic and exhausted

Pick a war, study it, and write about it. I personally find WW II the most interesting of the lot, but the Civil War is more complex from the US view (as opposed to the world view of WW II).

A pOeter sighting!!!!!!

Yes, WWII quite fascinating, really because of Churchill, my fave. oh, and lots of other things, of course.

And yes, as Em said - MUST have been Churchill's quote - he DID say everything! (and so wittily)

Martin (full eyebrows) permanently looks like this-----> ....is full of teen angst and ain't NEVER gonna see the inside of a school ever again (no doubt)....been out of school for 4 yrs already (was at a 'special unit')

Tres profound for you sillies......sumwon crack a joke for gaaawd sake

Oh he's a tough one, that Martin. Poor Nik. :( Say lots of prayers, is what I say......put 'em in God's hands because.........ain't no way a human can deal wif 'em....

Yep--DWTS on Mondays.....is it just me or does anyone else feel squicky watching Cloris dance and cavort with her partner?

 Patti said squicky

OK- embarassing fact: I took a quote from this song for my high school yearbook

NO MORE PICC LINES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 was THAT the quote from the Kenny Loggins song? "NO MORE PICC LINES"?

sillies - listen to this.

Today I was to go in, in the morning, and work for Shane, my former boss, whom I help occasionally. So - I'm on standby becasue he has a GIGANTIC army truck FULL of marijuana raided from the illegal (duh) growing sites in the Sierra and the Sequoia. (this organization works on wilderness maintenance, including rehabilitation of these toxic, trashed grow sites - I have been on a couple of these trips myself). So.........he has been waiting for a phone call from some feds, who are going to escort him with truck to a secret spot to dump and burn the Mary Jane. [and NO, I cannot procure any for you, please do not ask  ]

Shane is in a big ol' frenzy as national press outlets are coming to his office on Thursday (AP, UPI, and local stations) to get reports on these raids and, he wants me to help him on soooooooo many projects. We'll have about 1.5 days to do all of it.

Meanwhile, I'm waiting at home..........

JULIE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Where is that puppy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When's he coming????????? (this is Weezee asking, not me)

got nowt else, sillies. Carry on!!!!!!!!!!!

Bunnie - NEED this banana bread recipe - don't MAKE me go look for it

Wow Sooz--quite the operation you are to be involved in! Are you looking forward to this? Waitin' by the phone? :D

Those talkative guys you speak of.....sound very squicky. I mean, just ew-w-w. Not my cup o'tea in a guy, I guess.

And, I got to use me new word twice today

uh-ohhhh... hope this stays on 99...

urgh... had to take out all the quotes' smileys to post

Skaught is is a psilly fonetic spelling of Scott, and refers to the board administrator, Scott Adams (username admin).

US history is a fascinating area of study. The US has been in existence for 232 years, but has been involved in so many armed conflicts during that time. The US has had the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, the Civil War, World War I, World War II, Korea, and Viet Nam, among other conflicts.

Pick a war, study it, and write about it. I personally find WW II the most interesting of the lot, but the Civil War is more complex from the US view (as opposed to the world view of WW II).

But then, "History is just one damn thing after another." I phorget who said that.

:ooopsies.... I DIDN'T MEAN IT SKAUGHT!!

well, thank goodness i don't have to write an essay for history... yet <_< well i have one on monday for a unit test, but it's not about a war

love that quote :D

A noble occupation......you missed my signing lessons back in July

darn! are u offering more anytime soon? ;)

GADS!!...BTW....since giving up the smokes *I* have turned into one of those insufferable converts that I promised I would NEVER be

After my friend (who smokes) had been round my house I realised with HORROR and DISMAY that the fleece jacket I was wearing was indeedin the path of her vile smoke..on the back of the chair she was sitting on!

..dear GOD!!! ....it was all I could DO not to whip the jacket from behind her (whilst making LOUD coughing noises) and hang that jacket on the washing line to air it!!!!

..I in fact waited 'til she left

I'm SUCH a hypocrit

:P congrats on quitting!! whenever that was... :)

Another day of brand new clothes- I did mention how last weekend I broke down and bought two pairs of khakis at Kohls. It feels odd to have new items....I am such a dork!

Hi Erica- I go to bed by 11:30 on work nights, hopefully I'll catch you on next time

yay! more new clothes!! :D yeah, i'm usually off by about 11:30ish too...

Erica! beautiful av! The vital question: Are those your pheet? If not, we want to see them, in your ballet slippers. . . .. . ....

no, sorry its not... OH well i do have a "self-portrait" of my feet i took for photography class... hmm... ok well i put it up just for a bit, tell me what u think :)

Well now sillies....for about the 3rd time in his life I am pulling my youngest son (AKA Devil child) out of his school educational setting

GAAWD help me, I may live to regret this!!.... but summat's gotta give.....it ain't working

Left a voicemail with the relevant tutors that they arrange a meeting ASAP (GADS... i really am a thorn in their side)

Poopy tutors (although would love to see their faces as they listen to their messages in the morn)

why? what's going on w/the "Devil child"?? is something wrong?

Nikki! Lots happening wif that boy o' your'n. . . . . .no eyebrows, and a new school!

Where will he be going? How does he feel about it?

. . . Perhaps it is difficult to know how he's feeling much of the time. .. . .eyebrows are a vital part of facial expressions . .. .... ...Does he just look. . . . kind of. . . ..surprised all the time?

Sillies, we might be getting snow this weekend ....tis a little early for snow in my book!!

:o *jealous* lucky!! the weather's so weird here.... HOT cold HOT cold HOT cold

Wow, Nik.. . .. . .a real variety of children! I'm sorry to hear about Martin's troubles. Teenagers are perplexing, exasperating, exhausting.. . .. ..and then suddenly they're twenty, and gone .. . .......

If anybody can handle all of this, it is YOU!

 SQUICKY! A tremendous word. What does this mean? Nauseated? Nervous? The feeling you get when you look over a cliff?

Actually, I must share this: When I was a very small child, I inadvertently coined a phrase that has become part of my family lexicon . . . we use it regularly, and it is rooted now in our clan history. I was standing with my parents up in the Gatineau Hills, looking over a very steep cliff. I stepped quickly back and said, "I can't stand there and look down for very long . . . it makes my bum crinkle". . . .....

oh well thanks!! so sweet of u to say :P

Gotta tell you my story.

Bought a crockpot from Amazon beginning of July. Have used it continuously since. A few weeks ago I noticed a flaw, which has since turned into a full fledged crack. Went to the Amazon site to try to return it. Since it's past the 30 days, you have to do something special. What that something special is, I couldn't tell you, because the site is set up in such a way as to not let you do anything (all the links lead to each other, none lead to where you can send it back).

I finally figured out how to email them (also not a trivial task) and sent a slightly snippy email saying I had a defective stoneware insert and I wanted to return it.

Went to my account to get the brand and search for stoneware replacements and discovered that Amazon is sending me a new one. This is like a four hour response time. I'm so amazed.

I'm sure the fact that I spend hundreds of dollars at their site has nothing to do with it

Sillies - have been working in the garden  haven't found anything dead or rotting yet.

And - the marijuana dumping took longer than anticipated. I have to be at the office at 8 a.m. SHARP tomorrow - gads. I usually roll in around 10. Crikey.

Actually, I must share this: When I was a very small child, I inadvertently coined a phrase that has become part of my family lexicon . . . we use it regularly, and it is rooted now in our clan history. Two friends and I made up an expression when something or some place is soooooooooo depressing you don't want to be there. 'twas named after this horrid mall we had back then called Manchester Mall (I assure you, I have a niece who lived in Manchester for three summers and.....'tis nothing like any part of the UK, Nik  )

Anywho........we three 13-year-old girls had just eaten at this dirty restaurant, where we spied cockroaches running amok and things floating in our water glasses. We'd been to a movie attached to the sad mall. So, it was about 110 degrees on a Saturday afternoon........we walked into the long, sad, depressing and desolate mall. Half the stores were vacant - no tenants. We saw maybe two or three people walking through the entire thing. We were all INSTANTLY struck with the feelign that we'd rather be anywhere but there - looked at each other and said (amidst tumbleweeds blowing through)......."this is so depressing. There is a mood here. It's a Manchester Mood. We must leave."

Sillies, to this very day............ALL of my friends and family know the word Manchester...........and it's simply used as follows:

"that's SOOOOOO Manchester"

"well, the food was good but the restaurant....kind of Manchester"

"I'm feeling a slight sense of..............Manchester"

"Fresno is just SO BLOODY MANCHESTER"

  Very effective - the made-up term has been in play for.......over 30 years. Pheel phree to use it.

I cannot remember... . . Lisa, is she celiac?

She hasn't been tested, but is sure she is at least gluten intolerant. GP refused to test her unless I got tested first <_< .....too late for me to consider that, as far as I'm concerned.

She had symptoms as a child and was diagnosed with the usual IBS.....different doc. No problems during her teen years but came back the last year or so. I've finally convinced her to take it seriously.....well, me and her ailing stomach.

She was eating gluten-free but then cheated on a grumpy day, with regrets. Shortly afterwards decided to eat gluten to get her rash to flare up before going to the dermatologist. I hope she's eaten gluten enough for the blood test.

Bunnie - NEED this banana bread recipe - don't MAKE me go look for it

Alright, alright......

SERIOUSLY awesome banana bread, here goes. Makes 2 loaves.

1 cup sorghum flour

1 cup arrowroot starch

1 cup buckwheat flour (or quinoa flakes)

1 tsp salt

1 1/2 Tbsp baking powder

2 tsp baking soda

1 1/2 tsps xanthan gum

6 eggs

6 very ripe bananas, I freeze mine and thaw, they're sweeter

1/2 cup honey, more if you like it sweeter

Preheat oven to 375.

Mix all wet & dry separately, then together. Mix very well, has a tendency to clump because of the buckwheat. I just realized I'm not sure how long it took to bake.... I think maybe 35 min? I dunno, it won't give in the middle when it's done. Use the fork test.

This was SO GOOD. Especially toasted, it even has that slightly gooey bit at the very top-center like a normal banana bread. I also put chocolate chips in one loaf, WHOO boy! Now THAT'S dessert.

Incidentally, I don't like quinoa either. Reminds me and smells to me like wet grass seed. When its not washed before cooking it makes me ill because of saponins in the seed coat. Yes, it can be difficult to get much dietary calcium without dairy. But in many cases, it's not the amount of calcium in the diet that is the problem but the poor uptake of it. And too much calcium supplementation can interfere with the absorption of vitamins and minerals in general because it raises gut pH.

What you’re describing really does not read like typical IBS-D. The dramatic, rapid normalization of stool frequency and form after removing wheat, along with improved tolerance of legumes and plant foods, is a classic pattern seen in gluten-driven disease rather than functional IBS. IBS usually worsens with fiber and beans, not improves. The fact that you carry HLA-DQ2.2 means celiac disease is absolutely possible, even if it’s less common than DQ2.5, and many people with DQ2.2 present later and are under-diagnosed. Your hesitation to reintroduce gluten is completely understandable — quality of life matters — and many people in your position choose to remain strictly gluten-free and treat it as medically necessary even without formal biopsy confirmation. If and when you’re ready, a physician can help you weigh options like limited gluten challenge, serology history, or documentation as “probable celiac.” What’s clear is that this wasn’t just random IBS — you identified the trigger, and your body has been very consistent in its response.

oh that's interesting... it's hard to say for sure but it has *seemed* like oats might be causing me some vague issues in the past few months. It's odd that I never really connect specific symptoms to foods, it's more of an all over feeling of unwellness after  eating them.  If it happens a few times after eating the same foods- I cut back or avoid them. for this reason I avoid dairy and eggs.  So far this has worked well for me.  oh, I have some of Bob's Red Mill Mighty Tasty Hot cereal and I love it! it's hard to find but I will be looking for more.  for the next few weeks I'm going to be concentrating on whole fresh fruits and veggies and beans and nuts and seeds. I'll have to find out if grains are truly necessary in our diet. I buy brown rice pasta but only eat that maybe once a month at most. Never liked quinoa. And all the other exotic sounding grains seem to be time consuming to prepare. Something to look at later. I love beans and to me they provide the heft and calories that make me feel full for a lot longer than a big bowl of broccoli or other veggies. I can't even tolerate the plant milks right now.  I have reached out to the endo for guidance regarding calcium intake - she wants me to consume 1000mgs from food daily and I'm not able to get to more than 600mgs right now.  not supposed to use a supplement until after my next round of testing for hyperparathyroidism.   thanks again- you seem to know quite a bit about celiac.
    • trents
Welcome to the celiac.com community, @SilkieFairy! You could also have NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity) as opposed to celiac disease. They share many of the same symptoms, especially the GI ones. There is no test for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out.
