Phrezno-ites still loved anyway: One

POETER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

♥♥♥♥♥

where have you been??????????????????

There is always a hug waiting for you. :)

Well, glad you still love this pathetic Phrezno-ite. BTW is it phreezing up there? And, you have been awfully quiet lately........ Things okay at the store?

Amanda! cleaning up the stove splatters, ugh! I love gas also (stoves, people  >, do not have one, harrumph. You must get your ankle checked out!

But - speaking of stoves - sumfin' quite funny happened today, involving a whole roll of dental floss falling (unbeknownst to me) out of its plastic container and........into the metal burner-thingy under the stove grate.....I have no idea how it got there or how long it had been there. Gads.

so, pretty soon, the noxious smell of burning.........plastic? what? and a small phyre was underway under the burner. I calmly grabbed the tongs and retrieved this burning, unknown, flaming mysterious object that was poisoning the entire 'hood with its stench.

And, it took me about half and hour to figure out what it was, as it morphed into an unrecognizable globule of........melted and re-solidified hard, blackened plastic.

tell me, who in HELL has a burning, melted orb of molten dental floss on his or her stove, but ME?

<it was REALLY cool, BTW>

Susie- your story made me giggle.....I bet it smelled bad! I burned tupperware in the dishwasher a few months ago. A lid fell down and ended up on the coils in the bottom of the dishwasher and when it got to the dry cycle and the coil got hot the plastic began to melt. I was sitting on the couch and all of a sudden this petrid smell came upon me....I was scared. It took a few wash cycles to get that smell out of the dishwasher....and it was awhile before all the turquoise plastic was off the coil....I am so paranoid of washing small items now.....

The cat is sitting on the floor staring at me......he does this all the time--I wish I knew what he was thinking!!

I am watching this movie called "Something New" and......it's Simon Baker playing a landscape architect, and he has a golden retriever that goes everywhere with him, and he likes to hike and play in the dirt and he's beautiful and charming, and, :( I am simply devastated, why can't this man exist in REAL LIFE in this gawd-forsaken town?

I can tell he smells really good too. <_<

I'm excited too about the doggie love!!!!!! I never realized how much I missed having a dog until now, I was just scared I think getting attached to another bundle of fur after losing my last dog like I did.

Oh sure, now I'm up and everyone else is asleep. No fun being a morning person.

Not much luck shopping yesterday. Everything is still too expensive (well, the winter clothes that I need. You can get all the shorts you want for just a few dollars). Oh well. I suppose I'll get the warm clothes next spring

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL MY FELLOW CANUCKS!!!!

⌂ ⌂

These are all of our houses, nestled closely together, basking in this day of thanks. .. . ..the smell of turkey, ham, sweet potatoes wafting through the neighboUrhood. .. . .....

If you look closely, you'll see the jester lying between the last two houses, the robe wound around him, an empty bottle of port beside him. . .. . .....he just CANNOT be invited to any holiday soirees. Hmm. . . . unless the bugler accompanies him. They are bad for one another, and there is for certain some enabling going on, but in a sick kind of way, they need one another . . . .. ..

Hi, Lynne and all you other OBX'ers!! :):)

Hi Lynne!!

Hi Jess-

I bought a couple pairs of pants at Kohl's for 29 a piece- they were Dockers and very stylish- had the boot leg and all. I usually buy at the thrift store but have not had luck for my size or a good fit. I also bought some long sleeve tops at Old Navy and was getting 2 tops for 14 bucks. I got somke tank tops and I can do that layered look. The hospital is not too strict on dress code as long as you have identification on and it is business casual.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL MY FELLOW CANUCKS!!!!

Happy Thanksgiving Emily and Peter and all our other Canadian sillies!!!!! That is my favorite holiday. We go to my moms. This year Landen and Jen will join us. They wont make it home to Michigan for the holidays. So I invited them and they gladly accepted. My mom has an open invitie policy to anyone as well. My sister if she is on police duty will bring her cop friends. It is always fun. Now that we are older and live away we each bring food as well.

Well, I am happy to report that the only Bunnie pellets left at the fair yesterday landed in the potty. I finally got to eat something other than banana bread last night around 9 pm. 36 hrs on nothing but banana bread...... Boy, that was tough. I'm a big protein girl, I eat eggs for breakfast, chicken for lunch, beef for dinner almost daily (with some minor variations!) Goin two days with just bread SUCKED. At least it was fabulously delicious bread. I'd have been screwed if I hadn't made that Thursday. I've now gone twelve hours on solid food without expelling it undigested out the other end. yippeee....... On Friday morning, the one time I tried to eat real food, I saw it again 45 mins later!

I'm being too detailed, aren't I? Sorry.......

Yay for Amanda & Toghm's jobs!

Blood tests for thiamine are unreliable.  The nutrients from your food get absorbed into the bloodstream and travel around the body.  So, a steak dinner can falsely raise thiamine blood levels in the following days.  Besides, thiamine is utilized inside cells where stores of thiamine are impossible to measure. A better test to ask for is the Erythrocyte Transketolace Activity test.  But even that test has been questioned as to accuracy.  It is expensive and takes time to do.   Because of the discrepancies with thiamine tests and urgency with correcting thiamine deficiency, the World Health Organization recommends giving thiamine for several weeks and looking for health improvement.  Thiamine is water soluble, safe and nontoxic even in high doses.   Many doctors are not given sufficient education in nutrition and deficiency symptoms, and may not be familiar with how often they occur in Celiac disease.  B12 and Vitamin D can be stored for as long as a year in the liver, so not having deficiencies in these two vitamins is not a good indicator of the status of the other seven water soluble B vitamins.  It is possible to have deficiency symptoms BEFORE there's changes in the blood levels.   Ask your doctor about Benfotiamine, a form of thiamine that is better absorbed than Thiamine Mononitrate.  Thiamine Mononitrate is used in many vitamins because it is shelf-stable, a form of thiamine that won't break down sitting around on a store shelf.  This form is difficult for the body to turn into a usable form.  Only thirty percent is absorbed in the intestine, and less is actually used.   Thiamine interacts with all of the other B vitamins, so they should all be supplemented together.  Magnesium is needed to make life sustaining enzymes with thiamine, so a magnesium supplement should be added if magnesium levels are low.   Thiamine is water soluble, safe and nontoxic even in high doses.  There's no harm in trying.

Neither of them were anemic 6 months after the Celiac diagnosis. His other vitamin levels (d, B12) were never low. My daughters levels were normal after the first 6 months. Is the thiamine test just called thiamine?
    • knitty kitty
Yes, I do think they need a Thiamine supplement at least. Especially since they eat red meat only occasionally. Most fruits and vegetables are not good sources of Thiamine.  Legumes (beans) do contain thiamine.  Fruits and veggies do have some of the other B vitamins, but thiamine B 1 and  Cobalamine B12 are mostly found in meats.  Meat, especially organ meats like liver, are the best sources of Thiamine, B12, and the six other B vitamins and important minerals like iron.   Thiamine has antibacterial and antiviral properties.  Thiamine is important to our immune systems.  We need more thiamine when we're physically ill or injured, when we're under stress emotionally, and when we exercise, especially outside in hot weather.  We need thiamine and other B vitamins like Niacin B 3 to keep our gastrointestinal tract healthy.  We can't store thiamine for very long.  We can get low in thiamine within three days.  Symptoms can appear suddenly when a high carbohydrate diet is consumed.  (Rice and beans are high in carbohydrates.)  A twenty percent increase in dietary thiamine causes an eighty percent increase in brain function, so symptoms can wax and wane depending on what one eats.  The earliest symptoms like fatigue and anxiety are easily contributed to other things or life events and dismissed.   Correcting nutritional deficiencies needs to be done quickly, especially in children, so their growth isn't stunted.  Nutritional deficiencies can affect intelligence.  Vitamin D deficiency can cause short stature and poor bone formation.   Is your son taking anything for the anemia?  Is the anemia caused by B12 or iron deficiency?
    • lizzie42
Thank you! That's helpful. My kids eat very little processed food. Tons of fruit, vegetables, cheese, eggs and occasional red meat. We do a lot of rice and bean bowls, stir fry, etc.  Do you think with all the fruits and vegetables they need a vitamin supplement? I feel like their diet is pretty healthy and balanced with very limited processed food. The only processed food they eat regularly is a bowl of Cheerios here and there.  Could shaking legs be a symptom of just a one-time gluten exposure? I guess there's no way to know for sure if they're getting absolutely zero exposure because they do go to school a couple times a week. We do homeschool but my son does a shared school 2x a week and my daughter does a morning Pre-K 3 x a week.  At home our entire house is strictly gluten free and it is extremely rare for us to eat out. If we eat at someone else's house I usually just bring their food. When we have play dates we bring all the snacks, etc. I try to be really careful since they're still growing. They also, of course, catch kids viruses all the time so I  want to make sure I know whether they're just sick or they've had gluten. It can be pretty confusing when they're pretty young to even be explaining their symptoms!
    • Scott Adams
That is interesting, and it's the first time I heard about the umbilical cord beings used for that test. Thanks for sharing!
