Julie - don't know what to tell ya . . . my hubby knew I had read the book so he kept asking questions. If you haven't read the book, I'm sure yer immagination fills the gaps wif sumptin'. I thought the book was better than the movie . . . usually do . . . but the first half was difficult to read (from the little girl's perspective). Second half was much better.

Morning Sillies--

Patti- such awful news-- (((HUGS))) hope they are doing better.

Today is Boss's day and we are having a potluck breakfast for our boss. I made a hashbrown casserole....I am hoping it turned out- never made it before. So I got it all ready last night and dumped the egg over it this morning and baked it. It appears done but it has "juice" in it....any ideas???

My sister sent me a picture of Brooklynn on my cell phone- she looks so cute. My one sister said she doesn't smile at all....so my mom answered with--what does she have to smile for??? In all honesty it is the truth.... Her mom is 19 yrs old....young but in my opinion still old enough to know better.

See ya all in a bit.

PS- colder weather moving in tonight and tomorrow....

Mornin', Psillies!

Amanda! Brooklynn will be smiling soon, to be sure, now that your mom's got her. .. .... :)

How old is she?

Talked to my brother late last night, conferring on our costumes for the Hallowe'en bash we're heading to on Wards island. DH and I will be revisiting our African tribal personas (must get to Value Village and score more animal print - - I believe I've got a wee bit more to cover this time around <_< ), and I think DB will be in our tribe, as well.

POeter, you and Jacquie should come over to this island party! We can be a formidable Dinka Tribe, and you of course would be the Wise Medicine Man. Wif plates in our lips and twenty rings stacked around our weakened necks, we'd strike a formidable pose. . . . . .....

I agree, Janet. . . . ....the book was challenging, and very rich. Movie was as good as it could be. Impossible to get all the vital, gripping parts into two hours of film, but it was a good college try. Luuuuuuurrrrved James McAvoy. . . ...

The car that caused the accident fled the scene, after stopping briefly, according to witnesses.

Patti . . . sorry to hear about yer cousin and their grandaughter. Glad to hear they will be OK.

But now I must confess . . . . . . the psilly in me thought the next line was going to be sumptin like "after catching up to the car, police found several packages of stolen deli meat."

Gaaahhhh .. . . me cursor has once again disappeared from my screen.. . ...was just typing some emails, and blip! Gone. . ....... ..POeter! Why is this happening?

....:unsure: . .. . Do you think it has anything to do with our new, larger minority government up here?

.. . .Cursors in lieu of new taxes er sumphin'?

Quite odd. . .. ..have no idea where I am starting to type from - - the letters just begin somewhere, and I must guess... . . I inadvertently hit the ENTER tab, and suddenly

....I'm way down here!!!

Yes, VERY quiet in here, where are all the sillies?

It's no biggie, really! I've lived without white sugar, honey and syrup for so long, it really is a way of life. :)

:o this is astounding........you are actually one of the few (maybe the only?) diabetic I know who follows the diet!

I don't know how I'd live without me sweets - would miss them terribly, always........for example

this morning, I am not kidding, I awoke quite early and ate two of these Trader Joe's half vanilla ice cream/half raspberry sorbet bars. Had to take some ibuprofen and needed sumfin in my stomach......so that's what I ate. Gads.

Don't worry about clicking on the link, I think that may be the most confusing recipe I've ever seen.

Do you think your diabetes is Celiac related? Just curious...

It's me again, yer friendly neighboUrhood pain in the butt  Can yer chowder be made dairy free, like wif rice milk?

HEY!! PATTI!!

HAVE YOU GOT MY CURSOR???

Maybe your cursor is the cause of me computer glitches this morning! :o Everything seems to be working phine now, so I assume you have it back? :P

It's me again, yer friendly neighboUrhood pain in the butt  Can yer chowder be made dairy free, like wif rice milk?

 Patti, yer not a pain in the butt!

It is completely dairy free, you puree the potatoes and the corn after cooking and it is incredibly creamy.

In fact, if you wanted to experiment with df soups and chowders for the fall and winter, pureed corn makes a very creamy base (I saw this tip years ago on a low fat cooking show, how to make creamy soups and chowders without using dairy ;) ) So does pureed cauliflower. I make a Cauliflower Dill soup and it's just water, cauliflower and dill...and salt and garlic and onion, you cook it until the cauliflower is super tender then puree...very creamy!

Emily, I so admire you for taking care of yourself with your diabetes. I also have known a few diabetics that would just up their insulin in order to eat sugar.

Can you bake with Splenda? I didn't think you could with other artificial sweeteners of the past, but for some reason i am thinking you can with Splenda?

Bunnie, the Toffee Apple Cake recipe is from the UK website so it just has to be converted measurement wise and some of the ingredients subbed out for things we have here, but it looks pretty straight forward to me :)

 except for that weird sugar?

Jules, your cauli soup sounds splendid! will try it. I make the best curried broccoli bisque - just boil yer broccoli (in onions and garlic) until tender, add salt/pepper and curry powder, a bit of butter if you can......pur

Your experience is both shocking and critically important for the community to hear, underscoring the terrifying reality that cross-contamination can extend into the most unexpected and invasive medical devices. It is absolutely devastating that you had to endure six months of sickness and ultimately sustain permanent vision loss because a doctor dismissed your legitimate, life-altering condition. Your relentless research and advocacy, from discovering the gluten in MMA acrylic to finding a compassionate prosthodontist, is a testament to your strength in a system that often fails celiac patients. While the scientific and medical consensus is that gluten cannot be absorbed through the skin or eyes (as the molecules are too large to pass through these barriers), your story highlights a terrifying gray area: what about a substance *permanently implanted inside the body*, where it could potentially shed microparticles or cause a localized immune reaction? Your powerful warning about acrylic lenses and the drastic difference with the silicone alternative is invaluable information. Thank you for sharing your harrowing journey and the specific, severe neurological symptoms you endure; it is a stark reminder that celiac is a systemic disease, and your advocacy is undoubtedly saving others from similar trauma.

Those are driving distance from me--I will try to check them out, thanks for sharing!

I am so sorry you're going through this bad experience--it's difficult when your own lived reality of cause and effect is dismissed by the very professionals meant to help you. You are absolutely right—your violent physical reactions are not "what you think," but undeniable data points, and it's a form of medical gaslighting to be told otherwise, especially when you have a positive HLA-DQ2 gene and a clear clinical picture. Since your current "celiac specialist" is not addressing the core issue or your related conditions like SIBO and chronic fatigue, it may be time for a strategic pivot. Instead of trying to "reprove" your celiac disease to unwilling ears, consider seeking out a new gastroenterologist or functional medicine doctor, and frame the conversation around managing the complications of a confirmed gluten-free diet for celiac disease. Go in and say, "I have celiac disease, am strictly gluten-free, but I am still suffering from these specific complications: SIBO, chronic fatigue, dermatological issues, and high blood pressure linked to pain. I need a partner to help me address these related conditions." This shifts the focus from a debate about your diagnosis to a collaborative plan for your current suffering, which is the help you truly need and deserve to work toward bouncing back.

Hello, no I had to have them re done and then used a liner over the top.  Many dentists are not aware of the celiac effects.  Best of luck.   There is other material, yet, very expensive.

He is not just a psychiatrist.  He is also a neuroscientist.  And yes, I have already read those studies.   I agree with benfotiamine.  This is short term while glutened/inflammation occurs.  As I had already mentioned, these symptoms no longer exist when this phase passes.  And yes, I know that celiac is a disease of malnutrition.  We are working with a naturopath.
