Nik, you're right..... . . I do NOT want to impart any hilariously clever discourse until I know it will be here to stay. So I remain quite dull and matter-of-fact until we are CERTAIN that all is permanently restored. . . . ......

I will just ask this question, as it has been haunting me for DAYS:

Why do we press harder on remote control buttons when we know the battery is dead?

:huh::huh:

The same reason we press the elevator button over and over in an attempt to make it appear faster

:lol::lol:

We also move closer to the TV but still keep trying to use the remote!!!

We also pick up lil bits that don't get sucked up in the vacuum, inspect them to determine why the vacuum wouldn't suck them up, then place them on the carpet again to let the vacuum have another chance!! . . . . . .

But not Jess eh?....she's got a little robot thingy

My stupid robot thingy has gone blind and refuses to run for fear he'll run off a cliff.

Spent two days taking apart and putting it together and accomplished nothing!

I found a site where you can order replacement parts so I'll order a new bumper that has the eyes in it and see if I can fix the problem that way. It's possible that the problem is in the mother board, but I'm not savvy enough to know how to figure this out with accidentally shorting out the whole thing and causing a fire in the middle of my living room.

Although, I guess burning up the hardwood floor would solve my dust bunnie problem in a different way...

Why do we do these things?

I actually think that pressing and repressing and repressing the elevator button does make it come faster...... . ...kinda.

If you push it once, you have that idle time of waiting for the elevator to arrive. We all know that sitting around doing nothing makes time move at it's slowest.

However, by repeatedly pounding on that button, your mind may be focused on the hand-eye coordination necessary to do said task, thereby being distracted from the relatively slow pace of the elevator, making it seem faster.

So relative to your observed time (since time is relative after all), hitting the button multiple times will, indeed, make the elevator "faster."

Okay, there.....I've answered my own question. But I don't really know what in hell I'm talking about.

No no no . . . it really should be a seeing-eye-dog . . . one that sheds quite a bit. Then, as it leads around the robot vacuum, the robot will automatically pick up the trail of dog hair . . . That there's whatcha call a symbiotic relationship!!!

....and it can't hurt to mutter "hurry up, damn it" whilst pounding ;) Every little bit helps.

Bummer Jess, is there a Roomba troubleshooting/q & a thingy on the internet? Maybe they could help pinpoint yer problem with it and talk you through how it fix it, or what part to get exactly.

Does anyone know how I can get the phorum to remember my sign in info....or how I get it saved to my computer so I don't have to type in my email address and password everytime I sign in? For some reason it no longer has it saved

It opted to work perfectly until 1 WEEK after the warranty expired.

Since it is a robot, there are multitudes of robot/computer geek sites dedicated to the little critters. I'd prefer to skip the welding of diodes onto the mother board method of repair and just buy a whole new bumper.

I will look into the seeing eye bot, though :P

hmm, or training the kitties....

Pretty avatar, Patti.....and Happy Thanksgiving to everyone celebrating Thanksgiving this week :D

All this talk about remotes, and elevator buttons, and etc reminded me of this email I got recently. It was warning against using the electronic door lock/unlock on your keychain (if you have such an upgrade).

Apparently, thiefs (always seeming to be one step ahead of the game) have figured out how to steal the unlock code across frequencies. They will park nearby with a special kind of device and sit and watch and wait for someone to get out of their cars, walk away and click on their keychain lock button. When the button is clicked they are able to pick up the code and they are able to unlock the car and help themselves to whatever might be inside.

In my case, this would be jackets, shoes, boots and other clothing shed by my children. Also some stale pretzels and empty water bottles. Lots of old spelling tests and last year's project on pioneers. Halloween candy wrappers. Lunch boxes . . . I dare them to find something useful to steal . . . well, there is about 2 bucks in change.

Yes! Put that Lefty to work! Although I'm not sure how he'd be as a seeing-eye cat with just one eye himself....he would likely be leading the poor bloke in circles... . . . .

Whoa. If this is true, they could likely do the same thing with your garage door opener, and gain access to your house! :o

Just as an OT post, my brother noticed that Lefty has compensated for his lack of depth perception by bobbing his head slightly up and down as he walks. Kinda like a long haired pigeon.

You might consider asking for a referral to a RD (Registered Dietician) to help with food choices and planning a diet. Even apart from any gluten issues, you will likely find there are some foods you need to avoid because of the shorter bowel but you may also find that your system may make adjustments over time and that symptoms may improve.
    • Ello
I wish Dr’s would have these discussions with their patients. So frustrating but will continue to do research. Absolutely love this website. I will post any updates on my testing and results.  Thank you

Losing 12" of your small bowel is going to present challenges for you in nutritional uptake because you are losing a significant amount of nutritional absorption surface area. You will need to focus on consuming foods that are nutritionally dense and also probably look at some good supplements. If indeed you are having issues with gluten you will need to educate yourself as to how gluten is hidden in the food supply. There's more to it than just avoiding the major sources of gluten like bread and pasta. It is hidden in so many things you would never expect to find it in like canned tomato soup and soy sauce just to name a few. It can be in pills and medications.  Also, your "yellow diarrhea, constipation and bloating" though these are classic signs of a gluten disorder, could also be related to the post surgical shorter length of your small bowel causing incomplete processing/digestion of food.

Yes this information helps. I will continue to be pro active with this issues I am having. More testing to be done. Thank you so much for your response.

There are two gluten-related disorders that share many of the same symptoms but differ in nature from each other. One is known as celiac disease or "gluten intolerance". By nature, it is an autoimmune disorder, meaning the ingestion of gluten triggers the body to attack it's own tissues, specifically the lining of the small bowel. This attack causes inflammation and produces antibodies that can be detected in the blood by specific tests like the TTG-IGA test you had. Over time, if gluten is not withheld, this inflammation can cause severe damage to the lining of the small bowel and even result in nutrient deficiency related health issues since the small bowel lining is organ where all the nutrition found in our food is absorbed.  The other is NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity or just "gluten sensitivity") which we know less about and are unsure of the exact mechanism of action. It is not an autoimmune disorder and unlike celiac disease it does not damage the lining of the small bowel, though, like celiac disease, it can cause GI distress and it can also do other kinds of damage to the body. It is thought to be more common than celiac disease. Currently, we cannot test for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out to arrive at a diagnosis of NCGS. Both disorders require elimination of gluten from the diet.  Either of these disorders can find their onset at any stage of life. We know that celiac disease has a genetic component but the genes are inactive until awakened by some stress event. About 40% of the general population has the genetic potential to develop celiac disease but only about 1% develop active celiac disease. The incidence of NCGS is thought to be considerably higher. I hope this helps.
