We all need to get the funk out of these doldrums....toot sweet. Tis the season for pushing and shoving in the market place, the stress of posting all of those packages and parcels on time, gathering in herds and grazing until you're in a daze. And don't forget those heart-warming carols....lke

Grandma go run over by a reindeer

Coming home from our house Christmas Eve

You can say there's no such thing as Santa

But as for me and grandpa we believe!

Hi all--we were out all day (traffic was unbelieveable!). Just getting back and starting dinner......lots o' sillie today :D

Gawd Jess--yer holiday spread made me mouth water! I'm Italian, so we always had a meatless Christmas Eve. Meatless, but phar from a "fast": of any sort :P In the days leading up to Christmas Eve, my aunt and I would make about a dozen pies (literally), and christmas cookies. On the night of, we'd start wif deep fried smelt <drool> (and beer, if you were old enough--in our phamily, this meant about 13 :P) and then just tons of phood like baccala (salt cod), linguini wif clams, pasta wif squid (red) sauce, pasta fazool, antipasto, and salads. Me grandpa would make roasted chestnuts, too. :) We'd sit down to eat around 6 or so and not get up till it was time to get ready for midnight mass.

That was when my whole extended family on my mom's side would get together.

Nowadays, we live away from everyone, and I do pork roast, german potato salad, pistachio salad, brussels sprouts, homemade applesauce and a couple desserts on Christmas--but it's just Mark, the boys, JP's girlfriend and me. I actually like a nice quiet Christmas :)

Em--hope Sophie and her team did well today!! :D Glad to hear the guys are on their way home.

Hee! Throbbing tools and zapped packages--and root canals! :o I've never had one, but Mark's had numerous ones--don't seem to phaze him at all. He's had most of his done (if not all, can't remember) by a regular dentist, but Matt had one last year and it had to be done by an endodontist--sumphin bout the root being crooked......

Christmas doldrums :( I'm fighting toof and nail (sorry Suz, fer the painphul toof reference :P ) against it meselph. Good thing we sillies have each other......we're all gonna come through the season phine ;)

Gosh.....what else?? Dinner's actually beginning to smell good......I threw pork chops and an orange acorn squash in the oven and am doing me new favorite thing--garlic mashed potatoes  Creamy, garlicky deliciousness

And Bev-----Hazel is just too cute! :D

Go, Sophie!

YAAAAYYYYY!!!!! The Wildcats ended Gloucester's record.....they tied them, 2-2! This was so incredible, it's difficult for you guys to imagine - - The Wildcats were HUGE underdogs, not even expected to score against these girls, let alone hold them and get two. Terrific. . . . . B):)

And hey there Co-Poohbah!! Shouldn't it be "try to" instead of "try and"?????!!

....Try not to. . . . ...

;)

OMG... . .Ptaoughmghmn's Blue Googlers and his packaged chip. . . . . . . :lol::lol:

I need to be able to eat sugary, chocolatey goodies

Tell me about it. . . . . . . .. :(

Well, I have the most heinous root canal story. :(:(

I'm sure I told you all the story of when Sophie had a horrific accident at her school as a twelve-year old - - the staff was completely libel, it was such unbelievable negligence on the school's part. . . . .anyways, she was very lucky - -did NOT break her jaw, or lose an eye, and her braces kept all four front teeth in, but they were smashed and bent back into her face. In fact, they looked like they were gone.....just a big space there, and then, when the blood cleared a little, I could see the teeth flat against the roof of her mouth  . . . .. Anyways, long story longer. . . .....this resulted in reconstruction and all four teeth root canalled. :(:( We did sue the school board, and it is ongoing. . .. . ..

But Soooozie, if a twelve year-old can can sit through it four times (and she did, silently and patiently  ), you absolutely can, too!

Enuff of this horrid pseriousness!

Patti!! Yer phood talk! Mygawd, sounds glorious.....yours too, Jess!

Congrats to Sophie. A tie is much better than the expected defeat. Gloucester's 16-game winning streak ended. As they sometimes say, "the puck stops here." :)

Dear gawd, meant to mention this. . . .. . .I have, in the last few days, not only the flat stomach ad, but a new, HUGE blue ad at the top of my screen, screaming "FLATTER, TIGHTER STOMACH RULES TO OBEY". Have not ever seen advertising of this magnitude before. The Google Guys can see me, I can feel it.

"Jeez, Christmas is around the corner. . . .....lookit her - - baking like that . . ....and did you see all the gravy she put on her chicken? And those gluten-free, sugar free chocolates, gone in an afternoon . . . ...time to put the heat on this one. Pull out the big fontage, there, and the electric blue". . . . .

OMG. . . . . . .I just went to change my av, and at the very bottom of my profile page is in perhaps the biggest letters I've seen yet,

 I'm beginning not to like the blue google ad people.....mine says "#1 Flat Stomach Rule, obey". Read as OBEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They want me to lose 7 lbs of belly fat in one week. Very bossy, as well as unsafe.

And to top it off it is paired with an ad for gluten-free trail Mix. Well, which is it? Do you want me to have a flat stomach or eat??

Hope all Sillies experiencing the holiday duldrums are having a better day

It's so true, a VERRRRRRRY bossy, patronizing voice, to be sure. Kind of making me nuts. . .. .......it sounds remarkably like my MIL.

Holy gawd. . . .....you know, for an older lady, she is extremely computer savvy, and has a great deal of time on her hands .. . . . . . . ..

I think she could well be the Blue Google Guy.

Gaaaaahhh.. . . just like her, to barge on in here, my territory, and start ordering all of us around. . . . . . . ..... . you wait, next I'll be seeing things like, "WHY IS YOUR HOUSE DIRTY???" in her signature blue. . ... .. . ..

:huh::angry:

Janet!! Phorgot to mention my childhood LOVE of Clifford - -I'm right on board wif Smack. My own kids have never really taken to him, but I had every Clifford book I could get my hands on, and just idolized Emily Elizabeth, dreaming that she was named after me.:lol:

Hey guys!! Question for the day....Just how does one hoist oneself above and beyond the seasonal doldrums? When people used to ask me if I'm ready for Christmas, I always replied that it would steam roller over me whether I was ready or not :P

I avoid the shopping craze by picking things up here and there through the year....so that's not it. I've already decorated the house (as much as we're going to) so it's bright and cheery...so that's not it. I'm just not sure how to break out of this particular brown bag!

You all help, though. Thanks for being here! ;)

Thanks! I run quick, yer dogs'd never catch me. Ha ha!

So I made rockin pumpkin bread for Thanksgiving. And it only used honey, so I though Emily might be interested...........

plant sources of calcium, such as spinach, have calcium bound to oxalates, which is not good. best source of calcium is unfortunately dairy, do you tolerate dairy? fermented dairy like kefir is good and or a little hard cheese. i do eat dairy, i can only take so much dietary restriction and gluten is hard enough! but i guess some people do have bad reactions to it, so different for everyone.

i take b12, folate, b2, b6, glycine, Nac, zinc, vk2 mk4, magnesium, coq10, pqq, tmg, creatine, omega 3, molybdnem (sp) and just started vit d. quite a list i know.  I have high homocysteine (last checked it was 19, but is always high and i finally decided to do something about it) and very low vitamin d, 10. have been opposed to this supp in the past, but going to try it at 5k units a day. having a pth test on friday, which is suspect will be high. my homocysteine has come down to around 9 with 3 weeks of these supplements and expect it to go down further. i also started on estrogen/progesterone. I have osteoporosis too, so that is why the hormones.  anyway, i think all celiacs should have homocysteine checked and treated if needed (easy enough with b vit, tmg). homocysteine very bad thing to be high for a whole host of reasons. all the bad ones, heart attack , stroke, alzi, cancer..... one of the most annoying things about celiacs (and there are so many!) is the weight gain. i guess i stayed thin all those years being undiagnosed because i was under absorbing everything including calories. going gluten-free and the weight gain has been terrible, 30#, but i'm sure a lot more went into that (hip replacement - and years of hip pain leading to inactivity when i was previously very active, probably all related to celiacs, menopause) yada yada. i seemed to lose appetite control, like there was low glp, or leptin or whatever all those hormones are that tell you that you are full and to stop eating. my appetite is immense and i'm never full. i guess decades or more ( i think i have had celiacs since at least my teens - was hospitalized for abdominal pain and diarrhea for which spastic colon was eventually diagnosed and had many episodes of diarrhea/abdominal pain through my 20's. but that symptom seemed to go away and i related it to dairy much more so than gluten. Also my growth was stunted, i'm the only shorty in my family. anyway, decades of malabsorption and maldigestion led to constant hunger, at least thats my theory. then when i started absorbing normally, wham!! FAT!!!

Great advise there I agree with the aniexty part, and the aura migraine has I suffer both, I've also read some great books that have helped I'm going too look the one you mentioned up too thankyou for that, I find a camomile tea just a small one and a gentle wind down before bed has helped me too, I suffer from restless leg syndrome and nerve pain hence I don't always sleep well at the best of times , racing mind catches up I have decorated my whole house in one night in my mind before 🤣 diet changes mindset really help , although I have to say it never just disappears, I find once I came to terms with who I am I managed a lot better  , a misconception is for many to change , that means to heal but that's not always the case , understanding and finding your coping mechanisms are vital tools , it's more productive to find that because there is no failure then no pressure to become something else , it's ok to be sad it's ok to not sleep , it's ok to worry , just try to see it has a journey not a task 🤗
    • nanny marley
I agree there I've tryed this myself to prove I can't eat gluten or lactose and it sets me back for about a month till I have to go back to being very strict to settle again
    • trents
You may also need to supplement with B12 as this vitamin is also involved in iron assimilation and is often deficient in long-term undiagnosed celiac disease.
