Ahhhhh......yesssss.......How about this:

MIL: What, my dear, are you planning on making for our supper, Emily?

ME: Crock off!!!!

:lol::lol:

:lol::lol::lol:

Julie - I just wanted to check to see if you've done it before and knew it would be disasterous. Smack likes a chicken casserole that I make that has the cheese mixed in but he doesn't like cheese on a pizza or even the top layer of cheese in lasagne so I'll give the "mix in" a try. And it will totaly have crumbly bacon!!!

Have a crockin' good Christmas if I don't talk to y'all.

'Mornin' all.

Still cold and snowy, with the addition of a layer of ice (melted slightly yesterday). Lookin' for more snow tonight for the fab combo of snow/ice/snow on the roads. I need to brave the roads today, but then camping in until it thaws.

I still don't mind. It's such a rare occurrence I don't see any reason to not enjoy it.

And I haven't gone to work since Thursday :P

M, post pics of MIL wrapped in poodles to keep warm.

Um.....she is very tall (five ten, probably), and quite formidable.....big, not phat.

Hell, I ain't got nuttin' she could wear. Perhaps Will does. She could don his undies, socks, jeans and golf shirts for the short term.... . . . now THIS would be a pic.

Hee! Em, remember last year when your MIL visited and you "whispered" to us? Don't know what made me think of that, but it cracked me up! This year, you could wear gloves and she wouldn't even know you were typing :P

Gawd, I forgot all about that. Yes, there's nothing quite like having a guest in your house, all the time, for a long stretch.

She's taken my car out to do some last-minute shopping.:unsure:

I dunno if I've told you all about her driving life. . . . . ..

In her lifetime, she has run over at least one person, and their old family dog a number of years ago.

She had Will's car out while she was staying here with the kids, and we noticed when we returned that the driver-side mirror was gone.

She ran over DD's bike in the garage, crushing the frame.

Last winter, she managed to break off the windshield wiper arm on my car. . . . um, not sure how. . . . . ...

So... ...we'll see how she manages today. . . . . ....... . .

Sounds a lot like my own mother. The thought of her behind the wheel petrifies us! She kept insisting last year that she could drive here to visit (about 9 hours), but me sister convinced her to wait till after the cataract surgery :o

Can't help but wonder which car part is due to disappear this year...perhaps a whole door....the hood?<:snickerbehindthehandface:>

Could this perhaps be the largest understatement of 2008? Perhaps of the decade?:lol:

Ummmmmm . . ...no explanation offered last year on the missing mirror???

No explanation . . . .she's such a bad driver that DH remains convinced she doesn't even realize when she smashes into or runs over things/individuals.... . ..she would have immediately told us what had happened, the theory goes, if she'd realized what she had done. She never mentioned it to us, so we just quietly paid for the body work.

Thanks Tarreighhsahhh for the Christmas funny! Nothing like a little disfunctionality at Christmas to cheer a person up :D I sent this to my DD, as she can probably identify with some of this.......she will laugh her arse off, I'm sure!

Em.....perhaps yer MIL is narcoleptic?:P ......My DD once knocked off her passenger side mirror when she fell asleep at the wheel. She thought she hit a mailbox when she went off the road, but when revisiting the scene, could find no evidence of what happened.

All right. . . . . . ...who here knows the intricacies of cars?

Took my car out to get gas, circling the car before I got in to check for both mirrors (accounted for), antenna (present, and NOT bent), fenders, doors, etc. Everything is there and unscratched. I pray a li'l thank you as I get in and start it up.

The windshield wipers are both there, and functioning.

The gear shift moves well, as always.

I'm thinking, wow, it's all good!

I start out. Get on the main road.

The radio does not work.

What in hell??

How could this be broken?? HOW? HOW'D SHE DO IT??

Perhaps a coincidence - -a fuse suddenly blown.

I just don't get it!

I agree, there can be contamination at many points--milling is another possible source of contamination for any flours.
    • trents
Keep in mind that with manufactured food products, "gluten free" doesn't equate to no gluten. Things that are naturally gluten free can be cross-contaminated with gluten in the field, in shipping and in processing. In the U.S. companies can use the gluten free label as long as the product doesn't exceed 20ppm of gluten. That amount still may cause a reaction in some people.

Dd10 was tested for celiac four years ago bc two siblings were dx’d (positive labs and biopsies). Her results at the time were positive ema  and ttg (7x the UL), but a negative biopsy. We checked again three months later and her ttg was still positive (4x the UL), but ema and biopsy were negative. Doc said it was “potential celiac” and to keep eating gluten, but we were concerned about harming her growth and development while young and had her go gluten-free because we felt the labs and ema in particular were very suggestive of early celiac, despite the negative biopsies. She also had stomach aches and lethargy when eating it. We just felt it’d be better to be safe than sorry. Now, four years later, she doesn’t want to be gluten-free if she doesn’t “have to be,” so underwent a 12 week gluten challenge. She had labs done before starting and all looked great (celiac panel all negative, as expected.) Surprisingly, she experienced no noticeable symptoms when she began eating gluten again, which we felt was a positive sign. However, 12 weeks in, her labs are positive again (ttg 4x the UL and ema positive again as well). Doc says that since she feels fine and her previous two biopsies showed nothing, she can just keep eating gluten and we could maybe biopsy again in two years. I was looking up the ema test and the probability of having not just one but two false positives, and it seems ridiculously low.  Any advice? Would you biopsy again? She’s old enough at this point that I really feel I need her buy-in to keep her gluten-free, and she feels that if the doc says it’s fine, then that’s the final word — which makes me inclined to biopsy again and hope that it actually shows damage this time (not because I want her to have celiac like her sisters, but because I kind of think she already does have it, and seeing the damage now would save her more severe damage in the long run that would come from just continuing to eat gluten for a few more years before testing again.)  Our doc is great - we really like him. But we are very confused and want to protect her. One of her older sibs stopped growing and has lots of teeth problems and all that jazz from not catching the celiac disease sooner, and we don’t want to get to that point with the younger sis. fwiw- she doesn’t mind the biopsy at all. It’s at a children’s hospital and she thinks it’s kind of fun. So it’s not like that would stress her out or anything.

Thanks for the replies. I already use a gluten-free brand of buckwheat flakes I occasionally get itchy bumps. I'm still reviewing all my food products. I occasionally eat prepackaged gluten-free crackers and cookies, so I'll stop using those. I use buckwheat flakes and Doves Farm flour as a base for baking. Would you recommend eliminating those as well? It's a constant search.

Gluten free food is not fortified with vitamins and minerals as regular food is.  Vitamin deficiencies are common especially in recently diagnosed persons,  Get a 25(OH)Vitamin D blood test. And work on raising it.  The safe upper blood level is around 200 nmol/L.    "Low serum levels of 25(OH)D have been associated with increased risk of autoimmune disease onset and/or high disease activity. The role of vitamin D in autoimmune diseases   🏋️‍♂️Good job!   I find the commercial milk will give me mild stomach burn at night, while pasture/grassfed only milk does not bother me at all.  While you are healing, listen to your body.  If it hurts to eat something, eat something else.  You may be able to eat it later, or maybe it is just not good for you.  Lower your Omega 6 to 3 ratio of what you eat.  Most omega 6 fatty acids are inflammation causing.    The standard american diet omega 6:3 ratio is estimated at upward of 14:1.  Thats why fish oil works
