I agree wif you GJiannet!! We use maffs all of the time :o

I think what made the lightbulbs go on for me with Algebra was realizing that the NAME is just a SYMBOL. If we have some sticks....(geez, I use these a lot, too, don't I?)...llll....It does not matter if we call them four, or X or monkey poop....the quantity is still the same.

Probably having worked for a decade or more before I went to college helped too. Used LOTS of maffs!

Zello! Nice to meets you! Spelling and sense are optional, as you've been told, and I'm sure can see for yersllph! Hop on in! The Ho'tub is phine, and I'm sure sumbuddy can phind you a crutchtip! ;)

Here . . . I'll put it into terms that you can relate to:

Say you desire a $6000 breast augmentation procedure. You can put away $25/month towards the procedure. How many months until you can't get yerselph some new boobs???

How bout this one for ya, Jess?

There are 50.7 ounces (1.5L) in a bottle of red wine (cause I know you buy the big bottles). You need 16 ounces of wine to make your famous tapioca/red wine pudding. How many batches of tapioca red wine pudding can you make before you need to go back to the liquor store?

See . . . you guys use it every day and just don't realize it.

Actually far more complex for me. Need to factor in number of glasses consumed in order to think tapioca red wine pudding is a good thing. This, I think, will vary, depending on level of sugar craving, and amount of chocolate available.

Good morning! Just made it in time to be able to say that.

Sunny and cold here in Toronto today.

Now this your Oracle wants to know:

Why does plow not rhyme with snow?

Yep, I was gonna say exactly this. . . . ....it is NEVAH that simple.. ..there are always variables. I always seem to need a helluva lot more wine on hand than is called for in a recipe.....curious.

 Gah, these crazy little idiosyncracies of English pronunciation drive me insane.

I get SO tired of apologizing to students for the English language. . . ..

A little late w/ this but, with apologies to anyone packing a compass needle, I'm compelled to try to straighten this out. Can't have me sillies going through the rest of their silly lives w/ such a misconception.

Now, I may need some clarification and/or education on this, but when caught up in a pair of pants/shorts, isn't penile configuration/delineation always north? NW or NE, or perhaps Due North, but always northerly?

. .. . .. <_< no

Yep.......my DH is a runner, as well, and he has told me (when I called him at work this aft with my query) that it is ALWAYS northerly, whether wearing spandex, flannel dress pants or Levi's... . .....

. . ...

So, I appear to have me answer.

But is it unanimous?

Omg NO

Maybe a higher % when in spa. . .. spa ... (I think we prefer the term "compression shorts" to spandex) sport/compression shorts, & bike racing may be a special case where a sling provides competitive advantage . .. ..but, in general, .. .omg NO!

Apparently, boxers are 'south' (duh) and anything that 'gathers and binds' winds up 'north'. Makes sense......

 .. . .maybe appears to make sense .. .. .which way are those sculptured pouches P

Hi Ptaawwm! Good of you to "straighten this all out"! Don't want to leave these people "hangin'"

We've been waiting fer your weigh-in on this, Ptaoughmghmnus! (hope you are feeling okay).......

Those of us without the device can only construct scenarios based on assumption, and how they normally look when we see them :ph34r:

Yep, 'tis true.. . . ..But I remain bumfoozled by what DH has ascertained regarding this entire North-South discussion, as it seems to contradict what Ptaoughmn is "OMG - - NO!-ing". . . ..DH claims that when positioned in anything fitted, ie., pants, jeans, shorts, etc., things remain northerly, always. In fact, the mere suggestion of it ever being due south in a pair of Levi's just made him stop and stare at me. "No way. Doesn't happen". . . ...

:rolleyes::lol:

I can see I'll have to bring this up with him again. . ...more head-shaking silence, and a quick moving away, mefinks. . . . ....

I could ask the male diplomats that I teach tomorrow.....a kind of impromptu poll, so to speak, making sure to organize it as a justified vocabulary exercise. .. . ...

Howeveh, if you're proud of yer warning that's a different story. You should announce it and then add something like (with attitude) . . . "Yeah, I'm bad. Oooooops . . . and forgot to say . . . Welcome to Sillville, where spelling is opshunal.

Let's assign variables, shall we . . .

X = the current amount of pressure in PatTee's 'ead

Y = the pressure at which PatTee's 'ead explodes

Z = the rate at which pressure increases when mathS is discussed

How long till PatTee loses her 'head?

See . . . algebra is used EVERYWHERE!!!

Welll..... I know when I started it was about 2 AM... when I realized there was a double arrow to move me along.. it was 3 AM... after I read a few pages of the "new" stuff and finally responded, it was 5 AM :D

Yesh, I am that strange!

Oooo-weeee, looks like I need to scrounge me up a pink lady outfit :) I used to have one... when I was 5... wonder if that still fits??? ;)

You sillies are so fabulous.. or shall I say psillies.. Is a psillie from Philly, or did they just drink too much of the happy juice? By the by, happy juice can consist of anything that makes a person happy! Or sillie/psillie.. shillie..

Did someone say breast augmentation? My cousin had one of them.. About two years later she was diagnosed with Familial Polyposis and lost a bunch of weight.. Wellllll, my Mom, the tactful bird that she is, asked my cousin: "So, did your boobies lose weight too? Or are they still up and doing their thing??" After all the laughter and cantaloupe jokes subsided, we did find out that they fared very well and hadn't lost a pound. Moral of the story - there isn't one. Just that if your weight fluctuates, your tiggo-bities should stay the same size post augmentation. <-- Uh oh, I hope that wasn't too crude of a story... I'll be waiting in my inbox for a PM.. :P

Nice meetin' ya'll.. I wonder why I have a Southern drawl, when I was born in California? Hmmm...

The bolded NO was in response to the purported unanimity of the North Pole, Mrs. Claus. (Maybe Em has the gall to Gallup to the mall for a North Poll?)

It's possible I'm mistaken, but I believe a high majority can provide a literal answer to the query "how's it hangin' d00d?"

Hello, @asaT, I'm curious to know whether you are taking other B vitamins like Thiamine B1 and Niacin B3.  Malabsorption in Celiac disease affects all the water soluble B vitamins and Vitamin C.  Thiamine and Niacin are required to produce energy for all the homocysteine lowering reactions provided by Folate, Cobalamine and Pyridoxine.   Weight gain with a voracious appetite is something I experienced while malnourished.  It's symptomatic of Thiamine B1 deficiency.   Conversely, some people with thiamine deficiency lose their appetite altogether, and suffer from anorexia.  At different periods on my lifelong journey, I suffered this, too.   When the body doesn't have sufficient thiamine to turn food, especially carbohydrates, into energy (for growth and repair), the body rations what little thiamine it has available, and turns the carbs into fat, and stores it mostly in the abdomen.  Consuming a high carbohydrate diet requires additional thiamine to process the carbs into energy.  Simple carbohydrates (sugar, white rice, etc.) don't contain thiamine, so the body easily depletes its stores of Thiamine processing the carbs into fat.  The digestive system communicates with the brain to keep eating in order to consume more thiamine and other nutrients it's not absorbing.   One can have a subclinical thiamine insufficiency for years.  A twenty percent increase in dietary thiamine causes an eighty percent increase in brain function, so the symptoms can wax and wane mysteriously.  Symptoms of Thiamine insufficiency include stunted growth, chronic fatigue, and Gastrointestinal Beriberi (diarrhea, abdominal pain), heart attack, Alzheimer's, stroke, and cancer.   Thiamine improves bone turnover.  Thiamine insufficiency can also affect the thyroid.  The thyroid is important in bone metabolism.  The thyroid also influences hormones, like estrogen and progesterone, and menopause.  Vitamin D, at optimal levels, can act as a hormone and can influence the thyroid, as well as being important to bone health, and regulating the immune system.  Vitamin A is important to bone health, too, and is necessary for intestinal health, as well.   I don't do dairy because I react to Casein, the protein in dairy that resembles gluten and causes a reaction the same as if I'd been exposed to gluten, including high tTg IgA.  I found adding mineral water containing calcium and other minerals helpful in increasing my calcium intake.   Malabsorption of Celiac affects all the vitamins and minerals.  I do hope you'll talk to your doctor and dietician about supplementing all eight B vitamins and the four fat soluble vitamins because they all work together interconnectedly.

Hi Jane: You may want to try the D3 I now take. I have reactions to fillers and many additives. Sports Research, it is based in the USA and I have had no bad reactions with this brand. The D3 does have coconut oil but it is non GMO, it is Gluten free, Soy free, Soybean free and Safflower oil free.  I have a cupboard full of supplements that did not agree with me -  I just keep trying and have finally settled on Sports Research. I take NAKA Women's Multi full spectrum, and have not felt sick after taking 2 capsules per day -  it is a Canadian company. I buy both from Amazon. I wish you well in your searching, I know how discouraging it all is. Florence.

highly unlikely  NOTHING and I mean NOTHING else has ever caused me these kinds of symptoms I have no problem with dates, they are a large part of my diet In fact, I eat a very high fiber, very high vegetable and bean diet and have for many years now. It's considered a whole foods plant based or plant forward diet (I do now eat some lean ground turkey but not much) I was off dairy for years but recently had to add back plain yogurt to meet calcium needs that I am not allowed to get from supplements (I have not had any problem with the yogurt)   I eat almost no processed foods. I don't eat out. almost everything I eat, I cook myself I am going to keep a food diary but to be honest, I already know that it's wheat products and also barley that are the problem, which is why I gradually stopped eating and buying them. When I was eating them, like back in early 2024, when I was in the middle of moving and ate out (always had bread or toast or rolls or a sub or pizza) I felt terrible but at that time was so busy and exhausted that I never stopped to think it was the food. Once I was in my new place, I continued to have bread from time to time and had such horrible joint pain that I was preparing for 2 total knee replacements as well as one hip! The surgery could not go forward as I was (and still am) actively losing calcium from my bones. That problem has yet to be properly diagnosed and treated   anyway over time I realized that I felt better when I stopped eating bread. Back at least 3 yrs ago I noticed that regular pasta made me sick so I switched to brown rice pasta and even though it costs a lot more, I really like it.   so gradually I just stopped buying and eating foods with gluten. I stopped getting raisin bran when I was constipated because it made me bloated and it didn't help the constipation any more (used to be a sure bet that it would in the past)   I made cookies and brownies using beans and rolled oats and dates and tahini and I LOVE them and have zero issues eating those I eat 1 or more cans of beans per day easily can eat a pound of broccoli - no problem! Brussels sprouts the same thing.   so yeh it's bread and related foods that are clearly the problem  there is zero doubt in my mind

Thank you for your post, @nanny marley It is interesting what you say about 'It's OK not to sleep'. Worrying about sleeping only makes it much harder to sleep.  One of my relatives is an insomniac and I am sure that is part of the problem.  Whereas I once had a neighbour who, if she couldn't sleep, would simply get up again, make a cup of tea, read, do a sudoku or some other small task, and then go back to bed when she felt sleepy again.  I can't think it did her any harm - she lived  well into her nineties. Last week I decided to try a Floradix Magnesium supplement which seems to be helping me to sleep better.  It is a liquid magnesium supplement, so easy to take.  It is gluten free (unlike the Floradix iron supplement).  Might be worth a try.

It could be a fructan intolerance? How do you do with dates?  https://www.dietvsdisease.org/sorry-your-gluten-sensitivity-is-actually-a-fructan-intolerance/
