All right, so we are on the subject of growing up with our respective moms. ...... . What were your mother's nickname(s) for you? I had one, and it was given to all of us kids at various times:

Poop-nose.

:lol::lol:

Lots. I don't think anyone in my family actually uses our given names.

Jenner-poo

Sis

Dot

Jean-Jean-Jellybean

Lady Jane

hmm. Have to think on more. Those were (and are) the most common.

My poor sister became "The Dreaded Leafstalker". We still call her "Leaf" or Leafo"

Gads. Got new glasses. Bifocals (OH SHUT UP!)

It's like being on a roller coaster every time I move my head. By the end of the day I'm either gonna have a stiff neck from not moving, or be puking my lunch out from motion sickness.

She did however, when I was in my twenties and had dropped a huge jug of iced tea all over the kitchen floor and could NOT stop laughing about it, say, "Bev- You are such an A$%shole!" The ONLY time I ever heard her swear! Made me laugh even harder!

<snicker> But pseriously, I remember when Matt phurst got glasses in second grade. We went out to lunch after, he got out of the car and the poor kid promptly fell on his phace :o

Me mom's nickname fer me has always been Trish.......could be worse. Me sister, who's 8 years younger than me used to call me "P" when she was little. At my 6th grade play, in which I was the narrator :P , my parents, grandparents, and lil sis were in the audience. After I led the Pledge of Alliegance, and the auditorium was quiet, me sis yelled out from the audience--"HI P!!!". It was so embarassing then, but charming to think back on now :D

I'm writing a grant for the theater group I'm involved with. The granting organization wants you to own a building or something that you can name after this guy. We don't own any structures so I'm proposing that we build a prop that will be in every show. The guy will be listed as a cast member and have an increasingly long bio. :o:P

Hi Guys! Reading along and catching up. Hugs for all whether you need it or not.

My mom didn't have many nicknames for us.....but my oldest sister gave some of the sibs names. My mom used Lady Jane when she was mad at us...so we wouldn't hate our own names (although I remember too many times she used our full names when angry anyway). How we all hated hearing Lady Jane!!! There are so many of us that mom would start at the top and work her way down. Because I'm near the bottom she often gave up and said.."Oh! You know who you are!" Still does it....so cute! "Kat-Na-Pat-Bi-Day.....Oh" :D

A lot of those things "Mom Taught Me" sound just like my mom! She had lots more, too.

BI-FOCALS!!!! Welcome to the club! I hated mine (still don't like 'em much). I like to hike...first time out with those I couldn't tell where the ground was. Couldn't walk and look around at the same time. Now I read without my glasses (book almost crushing my nose) because I can't read with my glasses on anymore  .

Hang in there Psuessle! Things'll get better soon!

Forot what else......hope everyone is doing all right....at least upright and breathing.

Good morning, Psillies!

Wow, it's incredible.....this past week my house has been SOOOO clean, my prepared dinners SO delicious and admirably presented, my dogs SO content at their added walk, Jack's homework SO much better covered and understood, my classes SO thoroughly prepared and presented. . . . ......

.....Because it has been SOOOO quiet in the Ville.:rolleyes:

But I hate it! No pressure to fit it all into my day. . . ....

Get back here, everybody!!

Mark's back! Now it's the final push, Pahteigh......how exciting!!

Suddenly heading to Toronto next week for a couple of nights. DH has to go on business, so we are gonna tag along. We will see Jersey Boys (anyone seen it?) and hit the CN Tower, and likely the AGO.... . . ..a quick visit to the Island to see my brother, and back we come. I like these quick, crazy trips - - perhaps the next time we come we will plan to meet again for pizza, POeter! :)

Hi Jane: You may want to try the D3 I now take. I have reactions to fillers and many additives. Sports Research, it is based in the USA and I have had no bad reactions with this brand. The D3 does have coconut oil but it is non GMO, it is Gluten free, Soy free, Soybean free and Safflower oil free.  I have a cupboard full of supplements that did not agree with me -  I just keep trying and have finally settled on Sports Research. I take NAKA Women's Multi full spectrum, and have not felt sick after taking 2 capsules per day -  it is a Canadian company. I buy both from Amazon. I wish you well in your searching, I know how discouraging it all is. Florence.

highly unlikely  NOTHING and I mean NOTHING else has ever caused me these kinds of symptoms I have no problem with dates, they are a large part of my diet In fact, I eat a very high fiber, very high vegetable and bean diet and have for many years now. It's considered a whole foods plant based or plant forward diet (I do now eat some lean ground turkey but not much) I was off dairy for years but recently had to add back plain yogurt to meet calcium needs that I am not allowed to get from supplements (I have not had any problem with the yogurt)   I eat almost no processed foods. I don't eat out. almost everything I eat, I cook myself I am going to keep a food diary but to be honest, I already know that it's wheat products and also barley that are the problem, which is why I gradually stopped eating and buying them. When I was eating them, like back in early 2024, when I was in the middle of moving and ate out (always had bread or toast or rolls or a sub or pizza) I felt terrible but at that time was so busy and exhausted that I never stopped to think it was the food. Once I was in my new place, I continued to have bread from time to time and had such horrible joint pain that I was preparing for 2 total knee replacements as well as one hip! The surgery could not go forward as I was (and still am) actively losing calcium from my bones. That problem has yet to be properly diagnosed and treated   anyway over time I realized that I felt better when I stopped eating bread. Back at least 3 yrs ago I noticed that regular pasta made me sick so I switched to brown rice pasta and even though it costs a lot more, I really like it.   so gradually I just stopped buying and eating foods with gluten. I stopped getting raisin bran when I was constipated because it made me bloated and it didn't help the constipation any more (used to be a sure bet that it would in the past)   I made cookies and brownies using beans and rolled oats and dates and tahini and I LOVE them and have zero issues eating those I eat 1 or more cans of beans per day easily can eat a pound of broccoli - no problem! Brussels sprouts the same thing.   so yeh it's bread and related foods that are clearly the problem  there is zero doubt in my mind

Thank you for your post, @nanny marley It is interesting what you say about 'It's OK not to sleep'. Worrying about sleeping only makes it much harder to sleep.  One of my relatives is an insomniac and I am sure that is part of the problem.  Whereas I once had a neighbour who, if she couldn't sleep, would simply get up again, make a cup of tea, read, do a sudoku or some other small task, and then go back to bed when she felt sleepy again.  I can't think it did her any harm - she lived  well into her nineties. Last week I decided to try a Floradix Magnesium supplement which seems to be helping me to sleep better.  It is a liquid magnesium supplement, so easy to take.  It is gluten free (unlike the Floradix iron supplement).  Might be worth a try.

It could be a fructan intolerance? How do you do with dates?  https://www.dietvsdisease.org/sorry-your-gluten-sensitivity-is-actually-a-fructan-intolerance/
    • Lkg5
Thank’s for addressing the issue of mushrooms.  I was under the impression that only wild mushrooms were gluten-free.  Have been avoiding cultivated mushrooms for years. Also, the issue of smoked food was informative.  In France last year, where there is hardly any prepared take-out food that is gluten-free, I tried smoked chicken.  Major mistake!
