Oh, I wish. . . . .....not great things today, I am afraid. :( Overnight my dad has fallen worse - -they are suspecting that he may have had a small stroke. When I saw him today he was sleeping the whole time, and has apparently been doing so since they tried to rouse him early this morning. So, they are calling with updates.... . . . . ..

Tareeeesuh, why don't you name your li'l wee one Leslie? :huh:B) 'Tis my dad's name. I actually am kidding, but when I was reading your attempts at finding a name, I of course kept thinking of him, and suddenly remembered that his name is good for male or female creatures. .. .....

Sunny is lovely.

Man, we have to meet. Just reading Rayechull's fab, uplifting post, and thinking about how you guys have become such close friends, I suddenly feel a surge of urgency, of a real want like never before to congregate with you all, somewhere, somehow. A lot of this is coming from my sadness re. Dad, but nonetheless I've realized how you have all become a real part of my life. . . . .....incredible. You were the first people, after my immediate family, whom I went to and spilled about my dad.

Thanks for being here, you hilarious, wonderful lot.:wub:

Jyess, you need to tell yer boss to p!ss off.

Sorry, I'm just takin' no prisoners right now. . . .. . . .

Emily, dear Em. My heart is full of love for you and yours. You are such an EXCEPTIONAL human being, come from excellent stock! You are your father's daughter, as far as I can see, and he is such a joy to this planet. My deepest wishes for a quick recovery and years of loving family time together. No matter what the need, we are here for you. <<<<hug>>>>

Yes, we MUST find a way to meet, if only for a one nighter. I am ready to credit card the expense--any one else? If the gorillas can do it every year, then surely we can do it once, eh folks?

It is ironic and heartening how a sudden intense realization can come from adversity, and for us to have found one another in this big world is nothing short of miraculous. We should honor the friendships created here by sharing the joy face to face.

And get really rip roaring drunk, too ;)

l'll just pour meself a good long drink and settle on in...

Well, if that's the rule, I'm in.

Yes, we MUST find a way to meet, if only for a one nighter.

:o :o :o Mimsy's proposing we all have a one night stand!!

I'm in for that, too.

Just watched Mama Mia. Very fun.

But also a bit worried about Lyle. He's limping badly and sleeping under the bed. I think it's an abscess. I'll keep him locked in tonight and see how it is in the morning. Not looking forward to a trip to the emergency vet (many $$$), but also don't want a cat with a bad owie. :(

I hear this rallying call, and I am in, absolutely! :) Credit card city, fo sho. We need to get an idea of who would be able to swing it, and then decide the location from there.

Jyess's boss is NOT coming.

and that wicked dog from next door PEED on the skirt (flange?) of my sofa *gasp*

Suze--are you back amongst your peeps, in full online text mode?

Flying octopii are a normal function of daily life during hockey season in Detroit. Some years ago some idiots got the great idea to throw dead octopiii on the ice during the Red Wings games, and it took like flies to sh..it. Now everybody walks around with octopii hats and the seafood stores sell out.

I can't believe your neihbor's dog peed on yer sofa. WTH? *giggle*

Evenin' Sillies B)

Suz--you're in a semi-abyss :o Well get yerselph back in here  Can't believe a neighbor dog peed on yer couch ....twould piss me off royally. (sorry MM) and....get it? pissed?

Brownie in a cup?! And wine at the grocery store?! (incredulous)

All I got at Kroger was a $256.00 grocery bill, and a spilled bag of fresh Lorraine cheese (on raw pork chops) and a puctured Yoplait yogurt to boot. (dang boot sale food market  )

PS I shall nae worry over typos this eve...just warnin' y'all

A one night stand, eh? Crikey, I can nae remember...been married nearly 16 years <<haloshining>>

Sorry bout your kitty :( Max had to got to the vet today. He has a cough. But the weird thing is, so does Buttercup. Vet said the dog likely has an upper respiratory infection and that cats and dogs can't cross contaminate each other.:unsure: Don't know what's going on around here, but this morning it sounded like our pets had been smoking my cigs all night...hack-hack

I'm all fer the meet-up. I'd pseriously love nothing more than to meet all youse in person. I met Em last summer, and it was the high point of the whole year. :D

In approximately 4 to 5 months, when me house is done, youse are all welcome. There will be lots of room--we'll cram as many of us in there as can make it. Gawd, I'd love that

On second thought, if need be, we'll ship Mark off to a hotel to make more room   Just kidding--he wouldn't miss it.

CRAP! I just remembered my parents are there, too. (long story, that. I will e-mail a recap of the latest events leading to this relocation. They were actually s'posed to stay with me all summer. ISSUES!)

I haven't told you guys my latest. I made a very tough and scary choice this week to leave my job at UPS for the summer, because I have noone to care for my 9 year old daughter while I work (see above). It only pays $8.50/hour and I can't pay a sitter $6.00 of that and cover the gas to get there--a 15 mile drive. I will not work for free  I still have the other job (hate, shame) but that is another bag of beans in itself.

Poverty sucks!

I'll tell ya the squoil stroty - which is not mine.

Friend's hibyy is out of work (drat this economy). He's made himself a goal of finding a bird feeder that will defetat the squirrles. He found a ball that he's suspend at the ebd of a long piece of pvc piping (slippery) and down a long cord. The aquirrels atre supp9osrefdd to not be able to make it out to the ball, and even if they do, ball's suppoissed to be too slippery for their little toes to grasp. A few days ago she sent out pictures of THJIS SQUIRREL inside the ball merrily minching away at his new treats.

In the study linked above, the little girl switched to a gluten free diet and gained enough weight that that fat pad was replenished and surgery was not needed.   Here's the full article link... Hello, @Jordan Carlson, So glad you're feeling better.   Tecta is a proton pump inhibitor.  PPI's also interfere with the production of the intrinsic factor needed to absorb Vitamin B12.  Increasing the amount of B12 you supplement has helped overcome the lack of intrinsic factor needed to absorb B12. Proton pump inhibitors also reduce the production of digestive juices (stomach acids).  This results in foods not being digested thoroughly.  If foods are not digested sufficiently, the vitamins and other nutrients aren't released from the food, and the body cannot absorb them.  This sets up a vicious cycle. Acid reflux and Gerd are actually symptoms of producing too little stomach acid.  Insufficient stomach acid production is seen with Thiamine and Niacin deficiencies.  PPI's like Tecta also block the transporters that pull Thiamine into cells, preventing absorption of thiamine.  Other symptoms of Thiamine deficiency are difficulty swallowing, gagging, problems with food texture, dysphagia. Other symptoms of Thiamine deficiency are symptoms of ADHD and anxiety.  Vyvanse also blocks thiamine transporters contributing further to Thiamine deficiency.  Pristiq has been shown to work better if thiamine is supplemented at the same time because thiamine is needed to make serotonin.  Doctors don't recognize anxiety and depression and adult onset ADHD as early symptoms of Thiamine deficiency. Stomach acid is needed to digest Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) in fruits and vegetables.  Ascorbic acid left undigested can cause intestinal upsets, anxiety, and heart palpitations.   Yes, a child can be born with nutritional deficiencies if the parents were deficient.  Parents who are thiamine deficient have offspring with fewer thiamine transporters on cell surfaces, making thiamine deficiency easier to develop in the children.  A person can struggle along for years with subclinical vitamin deficiencies.  Been here, done this.  Please consider supplementing with Thiamine in the form TTFD (tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide) which helps immensely with dysphagia and neurological symptoms like anxiety, depression, and ADHD symptoms.  Benfotiamine helps with improving intestinal health.  A B Complex and NeuroMag (a magnesium supplement), and Vitamin D are needed also.
    • knitty kitty
@pothosqueen, Welcome to the tribe! You'll want to get checked for nutritional deficiencies and start on supplementation of B vitamins, especially Thiamine Vitamin B 1.   There's some scientific evidence that the fat pad that buffers the aorta which disappears in SMA is caused by deficiency in Thiamine.   In Thiamine deficiency, the body burns its stored fat as a source of fuel.  That fat pad between the aorta and digestive system gets used as fuel, too. Ask for an Erythrocyte Transketolace Activity test to look for thiamine deficiency.  Correction of thiamine deficiency can help restore that fat pad.   Best wishes for your recovery!   Interesting Reading: Superior Mesenteric Artery Syndrome in a 6-Year-Old Girl with Final Diagnosis of Celiac Disease https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31089433/#:~:text=Affiliations,tissue and results in SMAS.
    • trents
Wow! You're pretty young to have a diagnosis of SMA syndrome. But youth also has its advantages when it comes to healing, without a doubt. You might be surprised to find out how your health improves and how much better you feel once you eliminate gluten from your diet. Celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder that, when gluten is consumed, triggers an attack on the villous lining of the small bowel. This is the section of the intestines where all our nutrition is absorbed. It is made up of billions of tiny finger-like projections that create a tremendous surface area for absorbing nutrients. For the person with celiac disease, unchecked gluten consumption generates inflammation that wears down these fingers and, over time, greatly reduces the nutrient absorbing efficiency of the small bowel lining. This can generate a whole host of other nutrient deficiency related medical problems. We also now know that the autoimmune reaction to gluten is not necessarily limited to the lining of the small bowel such that celiac disease can damage other body systems and organs such as the liver and the joints and cause neurological problems.  It can take around two years for the villous lining to completely heal but most people start feeling better well before then. It's also important to realize that celiac disease can cause intolerance to some other foods whose protein structures are similar to gluten. Chief among them are dairy and oats but also eggs, corn and soy. Just keep that in mind.
