Do you have a pink cow yet? They apparently give strawberry milk, which is so much more interesting than the chocolate milk you get from the brown cows. :o

I hope it is true that calories consumed on Thanksgiving don't count. A busy afternoon baking saw us make brownies, French bread and pumpkin pie. Then we ate roast beef with Yorkshire pudding and are resting before tackling the pie.

Watcha been eatin', POeter?

It is Thanksgiving. Calories and sugar don't count today, right?

Bacon, fried eggs and waffles with real maple syrup in the morning, with lots of coffee.

Potato chips with sour cream and onion dip mid afternoon, while taking a break from baking.

Roast beef with Yorkshire pudding, gluten-free gravy and rice two hours ago.

Pumpkin pie with whipped cream coming up in minutes.

Boys and girls take warning, if you go near the lake

Keep your eyes wide open, and look for sneaky snake

Now maybe you wont see him, maybe you wont hear

But hell sneak up behind you, and drink all your root beer

And then sneaky snake goes dancin, wigglin and a-hissin

Sneaky snake goes dancin, gigglin and a-kissin

I dont like old sneaky snake; he laughs too much you see

When he goes wigglin through the grass, it tickles his underneath

Well, sneaky snake drinks root beer, and he just makes me sick

When he is not dancin, he looks just like a stick

Now, he doesnt have any arms or legs, you cannot see his ears

And while we are not lookin, hes stealin all of our beer

And then sneaky snake goes dancin, wigglin and a-hissin

Sneaky snake goes dancin, gigglin and a-kissin

I dont like old sneaky snake; he laughs too much you see

When he goes wigglin through the grass, it tickles his underneath

Would that be related to the brilliant irony of Tom T. Hall? Love it!

I did buy a box of grits, but have not tried them yet. Any info would be sorely appreciate.

Sleezenah

First, don't use Quaker.....CC issues.

Cook them longer than directions say.......they should be thick, not soupy like most restaurants serve them. IT'S NOT CREAM O' WHEAT, PEOPLE!!!!!

Oh, and add a couple slices of cheese near the end of cooking.......Yummmmmm!!!!!!! ^_^

Sorry to say, I have not been fond of Thanksgiving, lately, as I have been stuck with all the cooking. (Remember how I hate cooking? )Me in-laws, for the past few years, have conveniently taken a vacation at this time, and the rest of the family scatters to the other side of their families.

Been missing Soozle, too. I don't think she liked Patteigh's and my diet tips  Hmmmm.........Souczie cutting sugar cold turkey...........scary thought  I don't think Fresno's ready for that

Leeeesargh, I just LOVE yer li'l penguin. Every time you post, I watch him, mesmerized......adorable.. .. ....

Must put up the heeelarryus pic that DH took yesterday just before he went for a run on the trails a short car ride from our place. The Ripper was going with him on his bike, so Will opened his car trunk and left it open whilst he went to get Jack's bike to throw in. The dogs were out by the car, waiting for the running adventure to begin.

When Will came out of the garage, there was Charles, sitting in the trunk. Waiting.

Yep, I see them, too! POTATO sheeps, ONION deeps, PUMPKIN peyes, (assumed OLIVESES)! Sounds like a Phoin Thankgiving Day, to me!

Love the mental pic. of Charles waiting oh, so patiently in the trunk!!! How cute!!!

I'm not so crazy about T'day anymore either. When my fam. was all younger we'd all get together at Mom and Dad's. When you count all of us, siblings, our chilluns, you could count on about 30 of us. Got to the point where Mom just could not deal with it all anymore....so everybody splintered into their own little family groups. Not a lot of phun with just Telehubby and me. Last year we invited a couple for dinner that we really didn't know, and it was all cut short because of work schedules. Some of us work on all of the holidays.....so they all seem to be the same as any other day. Guess I'm old enough it doesn't matter so much anymore.

OK, I'm done whiiiiniing in selph pittay!

Gorgeous day outside!!! Makes for a pretty good day inside, too! :D

Yep. . ..he is a magnificent runner. Elsie runs quite awkwardly, but much better than when we got her. She spent so much time in a TOO-SMALL CRATE in which she could NOT lie down properly, or stand fully, that her skeleton and posture have been forever affected.

Catching up on a few pages, y'all are making me hungry! I have to wait another month for Thanksgiving and we're going to my inlaws--I'm wondering if maybe they'll let me do the cooking......I'll stop there ;)

PB is good with everything as is bacon with anything. 2 of my favorite foods-The bacon is a little difficult since I went vegetarian <_<

Nothing too psillie for me here. We are going to the beach this weekend with 13 of my craziest family members, there should be plenty of psilly there fo-sho!

I thought I read that Soozle was sick as well. Nik-olette, hope you're feeling better too!!

Poor little Elsie! Who could do that to a dog?

I used to love Thanxgivin, but not so much lately. We go to my MIL at 12:00, and then my daughter's at 5:00. Which means I'll have to make a gluten-free turkey dinner a couple of days before to take to both places and I'll be so sick of all that I'll barph! Oh, well, I guess it's the peeps, not the food.

Maybe I'll take potatoe chips, onion dip, and a two-olive martini!

Am at a lost. Am way too Patrishion for my "hood", but don't now how to be properly Hillbilly. How bout a beat up old carseat on my front porch? Or, is that TOO obvious? Come on, help me out here.

Not good enough. You need an old ratty sofa on yer front porch.......and maybe an old coonhound. And in the front yard you need an old rusted out Ford pickup truck....no tires......sittin on cinder blocks.

Patteigh!!!! Ya still got that port-a-potty???? :P

Hello, @asaT, I'm curious to know whether you are taking other B vitamins like Thiamine B1 and Niacin B3.  Malabsorption in Celiac disease affects all the water soluble B vitamins and Vitamin C.  Thiamine and Niacin are required to produce energy for all the homocysteine lowering reactions provided by Folate, Cobalamine and Pyridoxine.   Weight gain with a voracious appetite is something I experienced while malnourished.  It's symptomatic of Thiamine B1 deficiency.   Conversely, some people with thiamine deficiency lose their appetite altogether, and suffer from anorexia.  At different periods on my lifelong journey, I suffered this, too.   When the body doesn't have sufficient thiamine to turn food, especially carbohydrates, into energy (for growth and repair), the body rations what little thiamine it has available, and turns the carbs into fat, and stores it mostly in the abdomen.  Consuming a high carbohydrate diet requires additional thiamine to process the carbs into energy.  Simple carbohydrates (sugar, white rice, etc.) don't contain thiamine, so the body easily depletes its stores of Thiamine processing the carbs into fat.  The digestive system communicates with the brain to keep eating in order to consume more thiamine and other nutrients it's not absorbing.   One can have a subclinical thiamine insufficiency for years.  A twenty percent increase in dietary thiamine causes an eighty percent increase in brain function, so the symptoms can wax and wane mysteriously.  Symptoms of Thiamine insufficiency include stunted growth, chronic fatigue, and Gastrointestinal Beriberi (diarrhea, abdominal pain), heart attack, Alzheimer's, stroke, and cancer.   Thiamine improves bone turnover.  Thiamine insufficiency can also affect the thyroid.  The thyroid is important in bone metabolism.  The thyroid also influences hormones, like estrogen and progesterone, and menopause.  Vitamin D, at optimal levels, can act as a hormone and can influence the thyroid, as well as being important to bone health, and regulating the immune system.  Vitamin A is important to bone health, too, and is necessary for intestinal health, as well.   I don't do dairy because I react to Casein, the protein in dairy that resembles gluten and causes a reaction the same as if I'd been exposed to gluten, including high tTg IgA.  I found adding mineral water containing calcium and other minerals helpful in increasing my calcium intake.   Malabsorption of Celiac affects all the vitamins and minerals.  I do hope you'll talk to your doctor and dietician about supplementing all eight B vitamins and the four fat soluble vitamins because they all work together interconnectedly.

Hi Jane: You may want to try the D3 I now take. I have reactions to fillers and many additives. Sports Research, it is based in the USA and I have had no bad reactions with this brand. The D3 does have coconut oil but it is non GMO, it is Gluten free, Soy free, Soybean free and Safflower oil free.  I have a cupboard full of supplements that did not agree with me -  I just keep trying and have finally settled on Sports Research. I take NAKA Women's Multi full spectrum, and have not felt sick after taking 2 capsules per day -  it is a Canadian company. I buy both from Amazon. I wish you well in your searching, I know how discouraging it all is. Florence.

highly unlikely  NOTHING and I mean NOTHING else has ever caused me these kinds of symptoms I have no problem with dates, they are a large part of my diet In fact, I eat a very high fiber, very high vegetable and bean diet and have for many years now. It's considered a whole foods plant based or plant forward diet (I do now eat some lean ground turkey but not much) I was off dairy for years but recently had to add back plain yogurt to meet calcium needs that I am not allowed to get from supplements (I have not had any problem with the yogurt)   I eat almost no processed foods. I don't eat out. almost everything I eat, I cook myself I am going to keep a food diary but to be honest, I already know that it's wheat products and also barley that are the problem, which is why I gradually stopped eating and buying them. When I was eating them, like back in early 2024, when I was in the middle of moving and ate out (always had bread or toast or rolls or a sub or pizza) I felt terrible but at that time was so busy and exhausted that I never stopped to think it was the food. Once I was in my new place, I continued to have bread from time to time and had such horrible joint pain that I was preparing for 2 total knee replacements as well as one hip! The surgery could not go forward as I was (and still am) actively losing calcium from my bones. That problem has yet to be properly diagnosed and treated   anyway over time I realized that I felt better when I stopped eating bread. Back at least 3 yrs ago I noticed that regular pasta made me sick so I switched to brown rice pasta and even though it costs a lot more, I really like it.   so gradually I just stopped buying and eating foods with gluten. I stopped getting raisin bran when I was constipated because it made me bloated and it didn't help the constipation any more (used to be a sure bet that it would in the past)   I made cookies and brownies using beans and rolled oats and dates and tahini and I LOVE them and have zero issues eating those I eat 1 or more cans of beans per day easily can eat a pound of broccoli - no problem! Brussels sprouts the same thing.   so yeh it's bread and related foods that are clearly the problem  there is zero doubt in my mind

Thank you for your post, @nanny marley It is interesting what you say about 'It's OK not to sleep'. Worrying about sleeping only makes it much harder to sleep.  One of my relatives is an insomniac and I am sure that is part of the problem.  Whereas I once had a neighbour who, if she couldn't sleep, would simply get up again, make a cup of tea, read, do a sudoku or some other small task, and then go back to bed when she felt sleepy again.  I can't think it did her any harm - she lived  well into her nineties. Last week I decided to try a Floradix Magnesium supplement which seems to be helping me to sleep better.  It is a liquid magnesium supplement, so easy to take.  It is gluten free (unlike the Floradix iron supplement).  Might be worth a try.

It could be a fructan intolerance? How do you do with dates?  https://www.dietvsdisease.org/sorry-your-gluten-sensitivity-is-actually-a-fructan-intolerance/
