Bevel, Bevel, you ARE me surely?? (with 2 more presents than I)

Amateurs! I have nowt......and have no desire to shop. Before a few weeks ago, I thought there wouldn't be any money......'twas an easy out, actually. ;)

I have nothing against shopping, per se.........just the pressures of Christmas.

.....and who wants to leave the comforts of home to battle the crowds and traffic when it's freezing outside??????.......maybe I should move in with Neroli B)

But with grown kids, money works :P

I love me mother-in-law. :) She lives about 20 minutes away, but rarely comes to my house. She thinks her son is lucky to have me :P

I want a heated bed!.....I wouldn't leave either!.....fighting the urge to hibernate, already

Mornin' all B)

Matt's computer is acting s-l-o-w this AM, I've already rebooted it once. We're doing well sharing his tiny (and I mean wee) kitchen. Actually, he's more than happy to let me completely take over all duties within :P

I've been waiting 8 months to get me hands on this house--as ya'll may remember, we moved him in and had to move ourselves 5 days later. I'm doing some painting, lots of cleaning, and we're gonna work a little on the front yard this weekend. It's supposed to be cold but sunny, so we'll see.

JP (older son) took us to Changs Saturday night--the waiter was so savvy about Celiac/food allergies. It was great.....and the 2 hour wait fer a table left room for much drinking before dinner  A good time was had by all

Jess--I think you could use a heated kitty bed about now :) Are you up studying?

True dat--mine prefer it :)

I love me mother-in-law.

My MIL is great. She just turned 90 and is still independent--living in the same house she and her husband bought right after they were married. I wouldn't mind at all if she lived nearby--in fact, we've told her she's welcome to move in wif us if she wants. She's just not ready to do that yet. :)

Yeah, me too! However, I've heard from many sources throughout life that this is essentially what husbands are for.... . . ..and I DO have one o' those... .. ..but a heated bed...just sounds so... ....cozy. . .........

Ah, the Christmas consumer push. A number of years ago, my extended family cut WAY back. I buy for our two kids and DH, something for me mom and we usually contribute to MIL's flight cost, and that is usually it. My siblings and I long decided that what is so paramount is for us to all be together, as much as possible, over Christmas -- this is the real gift that we give to one another. Sounds so sappy, but 'tis true... . . .I want and need nothing, just to be with my family.

My family.. ... .... . ...and my MIL. . . . ... ........... .. <_<

celiac-mommy Collaborator

There are so many of us in our family with aunties, uncles, and cousins-and now everyone is gettin serious boyfriends/girlfriends/fiances, that there are too many peeps to buy for that we draw names 2 months before Christmas and we have a cap on how much you can spend. It makes it sooooo much easier. I give my kids "the talk" in November about what Christmas is really about and not to plan on a lot of gifts (that is until the MIL goes against our wishes and sends a pallet-YES A PALLET of presents for them <_< ) We spend Christmas Eve and day eating as much as we possibly can, getting plowed and giggly and talking, singing and being just plain jolly! I LURVE Christmas!!! :D

Bought Lyle a new heated kitty bed.

Hmmmmm . . . interesting . . . <stroking chin> . . . you wouldn't happen to know if this comes in a size big enough for a person lion would you?

That was really cool, Rachelle.

Also loved that "duet" somebody posted (Jess?)

It's not exactly big enough for Lyle. He's either tightly curled, or has body parts draped over the edge. You could choose which part of the lion to warm.

I think it was on GMA too, admin emailed us all a link to Charlie Gibson talking about it on the nightly news. We're both right :P

Just a quick poop-in after a couple of computer abyss days (t'is the season apparently). After much technical to and fro, a visit from the TelCo, much frustration, turns out *someone" screwed up the payments (no, not moi); cancelled the credit card charge but forgot to set up the automatic debit back in June :o So they sent us an email telling us about it the day after they cut us off (our ISP is a real genius company, about as genius as dh)

Loved the pink gloves!! Rayshelle--no more pickles, unless you really want them :o:rolleyes:

Lion Lyle will nevah get out of that heated bed unlessen you turn it off!! Well, maybe for food....

Have a respiratory infection; thought I had fought it off but with no immune system, I am heading for the doc tomorra to see if I can avoid antibiotics :( Feel like s.h.i.t. Third Christmas season in a row I've been unwell. It's getting old. Sent dh off to the Probus Christmas lunch today by himself (well, not really, he's picking up a new member whom I had promised a ride--I've never met her but I told him she was gorgeous. Hope it's not so :P )

reaching incoherent babbling stage. Slept in til 5:15 today. Having Pamela's cookies for breakfast.

Director and music director have made up after their on-stage screaming match yesterday. Costume designer and director have gotten over their screaming match. No one dissolved into tears from their apron falling off (OK, the aprons are pinned on now). How do I always forget this part of working with actors?

Good Morning, Psillies!

A bit long, but quite an amusing, truly Canadian piece as we gear up to mail off our Christmas cards.......

Open Original Shared Link

Speaking of which! Guys, the recession has geared things down for us considerably this year, and we're cutting all fat. So, we are not sending out Christmas cards this year, and I'm quite sad that I won't be connecting with all the Psills like we did last year.

Guess it'll be a big group email this time. . . ....hafta try and make it spectacular!

You're right, doctors usually only test Vitamin D and B12.  Both are really important, but they're not good indicators of deficiencies in the other B vitamins.  Our bodies are able to store Vitamin B12 and Vitamin D in the liver for up to a year or longer.  The other B vitamins can only be stored for much shorter periods of time.  Pyridoxine B 6 can be stored for several months, but the others only a month or two at the longest.  Thiamine stores can be depleted in as little as three days.  There's no correlation between B12 levels and the other B vitamins' levels.  Blood tests can't measure the amount of vitamins stored inside cells where they are used.  There's disagreement as to what optimal vitamin levels are.  The Recommended Daily Allowance is based on the minimum daily amount needed to prevent disease set back in the forties when people ate a totally different diet and gruesome experiments were done on people.  Folate  requirements had to be updated in the nineties after spina bifida increased and synthetic folic acid was mandated to be added to grain products.  Vitamin D requirements have been updated only in the past few years.   Doctors aren't required to take as many hours of nutritional education as in the past.  They're educated in learning institutions funded by pharmaceutical corporations.  Natural substances like vitamins can't be patented, so there's more money to be made prescribing pharmaceuticals than vitamins.   Also, look into the Autoimmune Protocol Diet, developed by Dr. Sarah Ballantyne, a Celiac herself.  Her book The Paleo Approach has been most helpful to me.  You're very welcome.  I'm glad I can help you around some stumbling blocks while on this journey.    Keep me posted on your progress!  Best wishes! P.S.  interesting reading: Thiamine, gastrointestinal beriberi and acetylcholine signaling https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC12014454/

So interesting that you stated you had sub clinical vitamin deficiencies. When I was first diagnosed with celiac disease (silent), the vitamin levels my doctor did test for were mostly within normal range (lower end) with the exception of vitamin D. I believe he tested D, B12, magnesium, and iron.  I wondered how it was possible that I had celiac disease without being deficient in everything!  I’m wondering now if I have subclinical vitamin deficiencies as well, because even though I remain gluten free, I struggle with insomnia, low energy, body aches, etc.  It’s truly frustrating when you stay true to the gluten-free diet, yet feel fatigued most days. I’ll definitely try the B-complex, and the Benfotiamine again, and will keep you posted. Thanks once again!

Segments of the protein Casein are the same as segments of the protein strands of gluten, the 33-mer segment.   The cow's body builds that Casein protein.  It doesn't come from wheat.   Casein can trigger the same reaction as being exposed to gluten in some people.   This is not a dairy allergy (IGE mediated response).  It is not lactose intolerance.
    • trents
Wheatwacked, what exactly did you intend when you stated that wheat is incorporated into the milk of cows fed wheat? Obviously, the gluten would be broken down by digestion and is too large a molecule anyway to cross the intestinal membrane and get into the bloodstream of the cow. What is it from the wheat that you are saying becomes incorporated into the milk protein?
    • Scott Adams
Wheat in cow feed would not equal gluten in the milk, @Wheatwacked, please back up extraordinary claims like this with some scientific backing, as I've never heard that cow's milk could contain gluten due to what the cow eats.
