Yes, many of us chilly. . . .......but Gnick, mygawd, we keep hearing about youse Eastern Europeans and the hellish cold snap sitting over you.. .. ..... .making big news here as it seems so incredible to have such troubles with centimetre upon centimetre of snow accumulating, and temperatures well below zero. <_<:rolleyes: 'Tis a new, very unwelcome thing for the gang across the pond..... . . ....Um, guess it's now officially "Climate Change", not "Global Warming".... ...... . ..

We Canucks should be sending over our monster snow removal equipment, via barge, to help you blokes out. This is one of Ottawa's machines from the snow plow fleet, during a typical clean-up after a dusting of snow last week on one of our main streets.....

Currently resorting to 'old school' methods...... taping up drafty windows with clear plastic, hot water bottles in bed.....um baking our own (gluten-free) bread ('cos the shops have all but run out of any :blink:)

Hot toddies and thermal layers....tiger pig fully operational as cat bed/draft excluder/blankie.

We may just make it......

Happy New Year all you silliesacs!

Phairilly chillie for some of yuse folks out there. We are struggling with the mid 30's here in DC today. Almost an inch of snow pummeled us just the other day too. Almost couldn't see the sidewalk in a few places where the drifts piled up. The birds don't like all this snow, but Muffin-cat won't even go outdoors in it.

On a more serious note, I have finnally made something posistive out of the celiac disease experience. I have opened my own lguten Free Cafe! Here is a link where yuo can check out the treats. Our special today is Martian Brain Bake made with free range Martians. Better hurry it won't last long!

I wuz thinking of you, Nik, when on our TV weather they said that the cold was about to descend on London and the south-east, :unsure: Like it hadn't been cold there before last night :blink: ???? Also saw a space shot of the Chilly Isles and the whole thing was white, from bow to stern :huh:

Yep, plenty of hot toddies and snuggling on order. And it's good Alzey is home, really!! Another body to add to the ambient temperature. I won't dare mention our weather for fear of being booted off the board.

Men!!! or more specifically, Husbands!!! Looking at the macaroon cake I made to take to some neighbours' farewell elevenses this morning--"Is that cake made from scraaatch???" Er, yeah, ya haven't seen any little boxes around marked macaroon cake, have ya?? He thinks all our baking comes out of little boxes??? With all my restrictions??? "Oh well, they must make something for someone like you." Oh yeah??? :rolleyes: Yer damned lucky it's gluten free even. You find it, I'll buy it. Namaste spice cake this summer maybe. But anywho, who says scratch is that hard?? Ya just have to not miss out any of the ingredients :blink: (or instructions, for that matter :ph34r: ).

Egads Knicksicle- stay warm! I have a friend (ship captain) who is iced? snowed? in there and has been since Wednesday- he splits his time between Nova Scotia and Brazil. This time of year he's usually in Brazil (where it's summer) and is freezing his hiney off!

I have a confession to make tho--the man in the photo is...not...my husband :o He's a friend from school and also on my FB (a very deep and sensitive soul). I told him about me manatar and he seemed OK w/ it. Do youse think he'd mind me sharing it on the vast viral waste land of FB? :unsure:

Going to my folks new condo to celebrate my dad's b-day this aft. They have returned from Mexico straight into the frozen jaws of midwestern wintery hell-O! I am running out to get him some warm new driving gloves. Made a Betty Crocker gluten-free cake to bring, have to frost it.

      Dang......did it again and yeah I should admit I am 63 with clumsy phone thumbs. I started feeling better quickly and a doctor a year later said I had to eat  poison (gluten) every day for a month so he could formally diagnose me and NO FREAKING WAY. I couldn't then and can't imagine putting my body through that crap (no pun intended) on purpose ever again.  Why ingest poison for a month to have some doctor say Hey, All you Have To Do Is Never Eat poison Again..

      It seems like you have two choices--do a proper gluten challenge and get re-tested, or just go gluten-free because you already know that it is gluten that is causing your symptoms. In order to screen someone for celiac disease they need to be eating gluten daily, a lot of it--they usually recommend at least 2 slices of wheat bread daily for 6-8 weeks before a blood screening, and at least 2 weeks before an endoscopy (a colonoscopy is no used to diagnose celiac disease). Normally the blood panel is your first step, and if you have ANY positive results there for celiac disease the next step would be to take biopsies of your villi via an endoscopy given by a gastroenterologist.  More info on the blood tests and the gluten challenge beforehand is below: The article includes the "Mayo Clinic Protocol," which is the best overall protocol for results to be ~98% accurate. Here is more info about how to do a gluten challenge for a celiac disease blood panel, or for an endoscopy: and this recent study recommends 4-6 slices of wheat bread per day:   Not to discourage you from a formal diagnosis, but once you are diagnosed it may lead to higher life and medical insurance rates (things will be changing quickly in the USA with the ACA starting in 2026), as well as the need to disclose it on job applications. While I do think it's best to know for sure--especially because all of your first degree relatives should also get screened for it--I also want to disclose some negative possibilities around a formal diagnosis that you may want to also consider.

      Yes.  Now, if you hit your finger with a hammer once, wouldn't you do your best not to do it again?  You have identified a direct connection between gluten and pain.  Gluten is your hammer.  Now you have to decide if you need a medical diagnosis.  Some countries have aid benefits tgat you can get if you have the diagnosis, but you must continue eating a gluten-normal diet while pursuing the diagnosis. Otherwise the only reason to continue eating gluten is social. There are over 200 symptoms that could be a result of celiac disease.. Celiac Disease and Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity  both cause multiple vitamin and mineral deficiency.  Dealing with that should help your recovery, even while eating gluten.  Phosphatidyl Choline supplements can help your gut if digesting fats is a problem,  Consider that any medications you take could be causing some of the symptoms, aside from gluten.
