We had an earthquake about 20 minutes ago. Caramel was not impressed. It lasted about 15 seconds.

Is that unusual for your area?

I just saw your comment on da book--I was gonna say that such questions should be between Jacquie and you :P Another of my friends there also mentioned it--she's in NY state.

I saw that and it hadn't made it to the list of recent quakes yet so I thought I misunderstood. Did anything fall off shelves?

elye Community Regular

Wow.. . . . ..we REALLY felt it. The epicentre was about 40 km north of Cumberland, just within the Quebec border - - I guess about 65 km from Ottawa proper. 5.5 on the Richter scale.

How exciting! Electricity out all over the place... . ..no injuries reported so far.

Eek Em--glad ya'll are ok!

Hold on to yer hats (and china and valuables placed on high shelves ;) ) Candadia's a shakin'!!

Be careful y'all, stay away from windows and tall trees!

Hey Raech - STILL don't know what Terry's 'ejection fraction' is (*smirk*...after all these years eh?) ....does that tell you how well his heart is pumping??) - I must ask his doc.

Without furring of the arteries do you see many peeps that have had heart attacks??

Yeah, the EF, or ejection fraction is the percentage that the heart is pumping. ideal values are between 55% and 75%. Below 55% the heart function is impaired and above 75%, the heart is working too hard.

And no, I don't see many people at all who have heart attacks without plaque. Unless he has congenital abnormalies that have caused him to have naturally narrowed arteries, I'm not sure how he would have had multiple attacks... I'd be interested to see the MRI report.

Could not resist picking that part of the sentence out ;)

BUT

WHOA!!!... I didn't know yooz ever get earthquakes :o

Well, I can assume it's below 55% because the doc said it's not pumping hard enough so prescribed an ace inhibitor which he said would help the heart pump stronger.

Ummm - the doc was looking into whether Terry's arthritis drugs might have caused it ....but he's experienced chest pains on and off nearly all his life - so maybe he was born with it

I'd also like to see the report!!! (and then send it to you as t'would mean nowt to me  )

GAH!!...Terry's health (or lack there of)has always been a mystery!!

OK - gotta pick up Al. He's been on a day trip to France

.....Wonder what old tatt delightful gift he bought with his 10 Euros :lol:

Earthquakes are not common in these parts, but they do happen from time to time. We were at the store and felt the building shaking. Some merchandise rattled a bit, but nothing fell. Becky slept throught it, but Caramel was thoroughly spooked.

kareng Grand Master

What about Wimbleton? 50 to 50? These guys are playing until one falls and can't get up.

It was stopped at 59 to 59. To be continued for the third day Thursday.

Well, I've been fretting about this stupid name all afternoon, was going to do something clever, but then it came to me. It will be called Madeleine Maxwell Designs (sounds chic...?) I'll email y'all more details once I get it going :D

Sounds better than what I could come up with. "Looks pretty and won't rot your guts out". "gluten free goodies". "Psilly Pastries"

"Chic-ee Cakes"

You know people will think your name is Madeleine.

celiac-mommy Collaborator

You know people will think your name is Madeleine.

Yeah, I thought of that, but I'm not much more creative than that  . Oh well, it's a beautiful name (if I do say so myself :P) . Not that it matters AT ALL, but both her name and mine are French even though I'm basically 100% Irish/Scot and Jesse is German/English. I wanted poor Max's name to be of Irish origin, but DH didn't like ANY Irish name I liked. He wanted to name him Lucious (Loo-shus), and call him "little Lou"

And alls right wif the world :D

Maybe that could be the subtitle of her book.

 Boy, these blokes can do more than just make fabulous gluten-free granola!

kareng Grand Master

Actually, Rey-schell, the boys (M, J & hub) are wondering if you have any new dessert recipes we could try out for you. J prefers chocolate but the rest of us like more flavors. I have 2 cookie recipes they and their friends love. They did like the choc cake very much.

All right.. . . ....I suppose the time is nigh -- I must make my Official Royal Announcement, as various North American news agencies have been postulating, correctly, on the source of the moderate earthquake that struck Eastern Canada yesterday. I will now confirm what is being alleged by the media.... . . ..radio pundits, national newspapers and television news broadcasts north and south of the border.

The earthquake was set off as a celebratory international proclamation. More precisely, it signaled the recognition of me as the reigning monarch of Psillyville for 100 pages. It did NOT directly coincide with the actual phlipover and the sudden descention/takeover, as effects of this nature take some time to orchestrate.

It occurred in Canada, close to Ottawa, as this is where I reside and reign.

It was the most logical natural occurrence to choose - - hail/snow/ice storms are simply not doable at this time of year; we don't have a large enough body of water nearby for a tsunami, and tornados just kind of look too scary, and don't carry the wide expanse of clout that tectonic plates can garner.

I know that you were ALL likely suspecting this, and were politely remaining quiet, waiting for the Official Announcement.

Now I'm just wondering if I should be getting in touch with Enviornment Canada and the American Geological Society..... . . .....they should perhaps be in the know... . . . .

kareng Grand Master

I had been wondering. :P

When my wife attempted to open the online card in the store with a cashier, it would not work. We then showed the owner the link to the card, the online receipt that I got upon purchase, and even my bank statement confirming the purchase. That did not satisfy her, since she said she needed the link to open to reveal the gift ID num. They even admitted they had a systems problem around that time.
    • trents
Was the card itself lost or just the record or both?
    • Francis M
We were flabergasted that the owner would not acknowledge a $50 e-gift card I purchased for my celiac wife. My wife tried to open it in the store and was informed there had been a system change and they could not find the record. No worries, she was told, just talk to management. Six months later, and numerous absurd back and forths, and the owner literally informs me there have been "bad actors", so she can't make good on this lost gift card. In other words, she accused me of lying and committing fraud... over $50! Please be careful with your orders and purchases here.

Yes, some people do get withdrawal from gluten but gluten withdrawal doesn't usually cause gut pain. Maybe more like general body aches and discomfort. We have articles on gluten withdrawal on this forum. You might do a search for them. Applesauce is very acidic and some brands have added vitamin C (ascorbic acid) which makes them more acidic. This can damage the stomach lining if you eat it too often. Especially if your stomach lining is already compromised. Ibuprofen inhibits the body's ability to rebuild the stomach's protective mucosal lining. That's why it can cause peptic ulcers. As strange as it may sound, low level irritation/inflammation stimulates the body to rebuild the stomach lining. There are two steps in this rebuilding process known as COX 1 and COX 2. Ibuprofen represses both COX 1 and COX 2. Celecoxcib, a prescription anti inflammatory, inhibits only COX 2, making it less likely to cause damage to the gut lining.

Do you or anyone know alot about ibuprofen  I wasn't sure if I was eating too much apple sauce.   Something is making my pain so much worse  I'm referring to the intense pins and needles in my feet and lower legs.  Jaw actually has tardive dystonia and muscle spasms throughout my back Almost like an opposite effect that a pain reliever would do. I'm fairly new to this. Whatever is going on seems to be worsening  Do people get a withdrawal effect from gluten?  It's extremely painful 😖  I'll post that question or research on the site  Thank you everyone for responding
