It's actually quite bad Open Original Shared Link and the rain is expected to continue for several more hours (then a brief break before the next storm :o ). While some rivers flood every year, it's usually in the spring. This winter water storm is unusual. They've even canceled Amtrak service.

Gads. Could be a bad winter.

Maybe you and BE can be phflooded in together. one cannot be expected to go to work or take finals if it means you must go thru the phflood waters.

Matt survived the camping. Said it wasn't too bad. The kids lost his marbles.

Well, ya see, this is a country founded by the Brits (after they took it away from the Maori) and there is a certain sense of tradition to be maintained and proper decorum observed, which means that the traditional red Santa with his snowy white beard and his fat belly and his Ho's to the third power usually prevail. But you can tell Jeff that there are some rebellious Santas who still wear a Santa hat, but throw off all that other suffocating stuff, and instead of arriving on sleighs, come zipping in on surfboards - scares the heck out of some of the wee ones who think this kind of Santa will not come down chimneys and bring pressies :o The younger (teen) generation is in the process, it would seem of developing different Christmas traditions. We have long since abandoned the outmoded notion that you MUST have the traditional Christmas dinner at midday in sweltering heat, trying to stuff down the last of the Xmas pud. Mind you, lots of people still do this, but the more enlightened take a pique nique to the beach or a local park (that's what we are doing this year with a couple of other couples, we oldies preferring to lounge in the shade instead of bake ourselves red in the sun

Now my boys are wondering what sort of Xmas tree you have, if you have one? Also, do we want to see a fat Santa in a wetsuit or beachwear? I think your Santa must be buffer than ours.

Well, most peoples do the traditional tree with the balls (but no penii) and the tinsel and the angel plonked on the top, but they tend to be pine trees rather than fir (Monterey Pine is particularly well adapted to our climate, but does not make for a good tree  ). I have opted out of the tree tradition since hub accidentallly :P threw out all my ornaments, and instead just go for a yule log or sometimes nothing at all depending on how grinchy I feel (and depending on who's coming to the house). Fake trees are very popular sine the green movement got into full swing. Most Santas wear cushions and other padding so the bowl of jelly on a surfboard (revolting thought  ) does not happen. Don't think I have ever seen a non-buff surfer, and have no desire to :P

Thank you for the informative cultural lesson! We are happy to know that most or all suffers are in good shape.

BE and his dd came to see the show last night and I met them for drinks afterwards. Will see BE tonight after the matinee to find out where I scored on the (female) child approval rating. His son does not approve of his father dating, so that introduction may not be for a while.

I accomplished nothing today, other than scarfing down some very tasty yams.

Dear gawd.. . . . ..this is a gluten-free forum! The personal messages should absolutely have as long a shelf life as the gluten-free, preservative-loaded, processed and packaged foods we must buy! (currently have a bag o' bagels in the fridge that are fine after three weeks, I believe). . . . . .

They should be. Is your messenger full. I know it only keeps 75 messages.

Loey unsure.gif

Loey Rising Star

No "shelf life," but you can't reply to a conversation if the party who began it has deleted it from their messages. It sounds like that has happened here.

Deleted it by mistake. My bad!!!

Wonder if Rashelles's final will be postponed. Here's hoping. It's been a raging storm here and the last time it was like this a lot of people lost their homes. Thank God we're on a hill so the water flows down. I'm praying for the people who live in the downtown area and by the ocean. Being on an Island has it's pluses and minuses.

P.S. Am I confusing Rashelle with Jesse going to school?

Returning to being psilly (and I hope I don't offend anyone or get kicked out of my dear psilly thread) Clark and I bought Tony some rather disturbing gifts for Christmas (it's the what do you buy the boy who only wants money). We bought him an "Enormex Condem" (he's still a virgin but always talks about how large he is). We've always been open talking about sex so we thought he'd find it phunny. The back of the package says"to ensure maximum protection from conception this product has been rigorously tested on an African bull elephant before being rinsed out and re-rolled and packaged." Novelty item only. He also asked for a Jesus Action Figure. There are at least 6 on Amazon. Better than a Sarah Palin Bobble Head. The Beatles poster and X-box games we bought him are tame.

Hugs from a blushing Loey who better get down to wrapping gifts before my computer goes all whacky on me again for procrastinating .

Welcome to the forum, @Mmoc! Please include the reference ranges for the IGA and the TTG tests in your next post if you have access to them. We cannot comment much otherwise as different labs use different reference ranges for these tests and also different units of measurement. There are no universal standards as of yet so the raw test numbers are not always helpful. Having said that, if your IGA (what we usually call "total IGA") is low, the TTG-IGA score will be skewed and cannot be trusted. Other kinds of tests for celiac disease would need to be run, particularly those in the IGG family of tests. Perhaps this will be helpful:

Hi there any advice welcomed. I have had 4 years of symptoms ranging from immune related anaphylactic symptom sudden onset food allergy to peppers/paprika/chilli/capsicum family derivatives. all these allergies fizzled out and following a food challenge test in hospital I reintroduced them a few months ago. Since then my digestive system is a mess. i have since noticed that 4 years ago when testing for iga allergies my iga level was .62 and my ttg was less than .1 (due to symptoms I was probably eating very plainly at that time). should I insist on being retested for celiac? I’ve since read two indicators for celiac include: sensitive to spicy foods when in flare up tooth enamel weakness and symmetrical discolouration patches on teeth which I have had since childhood on my two front teeth     thanks

This article does not address migraines at all.  Yes, red wine and sulfites are often mentioned in connection with migraine triggers. With me, any kind of alcoholic beverage in very modest amounts will reliably produce a migraine. Nitrous oxide generators, which are vaso dialators, also will give me migraines reliably. So, I think most of my migraines are tied to fluctuations vascular tension and blood flow to the brain. That's why the sumatriptan works so well. It is a vaso constrictor.

Excessive dietary tyrosine can cause problems.  Everything in moderation.   Sulfites can also trigger migraines. Sulfites are found in fermented, pickled and aged foods, like cheese.  Sulfites cause a high histamine release.  High histamine levels are found in migraine.  Following a low histamine diet like the low histamine Autoimmune Protocol diet, a Paleo diet, helps immensely.    Sulfites and other migraine trigger foods can cause changes in the gut microbiome.  These bad bacteria can increase the incidence of migraines, increasing histamine and inflammation leading to increased gut permeability (leaky gut), SIBO, and higher systemic inflammation.   A Ketogenic diet can reduce the incidence of migraine.  A Paleo diet like the AIP diet, that restricts carbohydrates (like from starchy vegetables) becomes a ketogenic diet.  This diet also changes the microbiome, eliminating the bad bacteria and SIBO that cause an increase in histamine, inflammation and migraine.  Fewer bad bacteria reduces inflammation, lowers migraine frequency, and improves leaky gut. Since I started following the low histamine ketogenic AIP paleo diet, I rarely get migraine.  Yes, I do eat carbs occasionally now, rice or potato, but still no migraines.  Feed your body right, feed your intestinal bacteria right, you'll feel better.  Good intestinal bacteria actually make your mental health better, too.  I had to decide to change my diet drastically in order to feel better all the time, not just to satisfy my taste buds.  I chose to eat so I would feel better all the time.  I do like dark chocolate (a migraine trigger), but now I can indulge occasionally without a migraine after.   Microbiota alterations are related to migraine food triggers and inflammatory markers in chronic migraine patients with medication overuse headache https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC11546420/

Then we would need to cut out all meat and fish as they are richer sources of tyrosine than nuts and cheese. Something else about certain tyrosine rich foods must be the actual culprit.
