Hmmm, now that WOULD be a worry :P

Well, after two days off, back to work in the morning. It will be a short day.

Christmas was a quiet day for just us mostly. We visited Jacquie's brother in the afternoon, and our nephew took five minutes out of playing with the Wii to open his gift and say thank you.

Dinner for two was roast beef with Yorkshire pudding, with gravy, wax beans and rice. All gluten-free, of course.

We had the family gathering on my side this evening, with my brothers, their wives, and my parents. Open Original Shared Link was the host this year. They had some gingerbread cookies by El Peto. Mmmm.

'Mornin', POeter! Been meaning to tell you that Jack finally got hold of Rob's latest (I think it's his most recent........ . . . .."Watch", I believe), and he loved it. Sophie halfhazardly picked it up in a sci-fi-is-SOOOO-uncool-and-totally-not-my-thing fashion and, despite herself, could not put it down. Jack wrote a message to Rob on his website about it and got a very nice, attentive answer.

Jack is wondering if he could come to Rob's house with you next Christmas, as he has too many other questions to feasibly be posting on the website.

mmm Having a big bowl of bean soup for brekky (thanks K-wren!). Christmas from my bro and SIL was food based. Gigantic saute pan, oil mister, Barbara Kingsolver Open Original Shared Link, ginger scented lotion (may need that after the bowl of beans), and a box of gluten-free chips and crackers and asparagus tapenade.

I'm getting them a Open Original Shared Link

Mustn't be my mom's recipe! :)

Carrots, celery, green peppers, cilantro, onions, black beans, white beans, garlic powder, ham, home made turkey broth. Crock over night, then add smoked paprika and a little hot sauce.

Sounds yummy. Not my mom's recipe - light colored dried beans, salt & pepper & ham.

We do a three-year rotation, so Rob is next up in 2013. This coming year is Alan's turn.

Watch is the latest, the second volume in the WWW trilogy. Wonder is due out in April, and Rob will be doing another Canadian tour for the launch, and he plans to include Ottawa.

Dunno about appease - but it could help drive them away :P

or make them so heavy they can't fly at you. Hard to be attacked by pigeons with indigestion waddling at you.

kareng Grand Master

The starlings stayed in the trees for about 15 very loud minutes. Suddenly, it went silent and they flew away. Maybe just waiting for a freshly washed car to go by.

The only exciting news from the NW is that it's STILL raining.

Bah! humbug. It is STILL raining here too - all day, and cold and blowing. I am consoling myself with reading and cryptic crosswords, and eating too much - have now switched to a glass of wine since it's five o'clock

'Tis extraordinary, really... . . . . ....Ottawa is known for its cold, snow-laden winters, and yet this city has somehow miraculously been completely sideswiped by ALL of the horrific blizzard activity that has been pounding the surrounding areas. Got nuttin' here - - perhaps 12 cm of psnaough since the start of winter.

Must go out and buy a lottery ticket, methinks.. . . . ..

We know quite a few people whose holiday travel plans have been skippered. Patteigh! How are youse faring after the 51 cm??

Things are pretty much back to normal here as of this morning--the Governor's office called for a snow emergency yesterday. Mark went in to work yesterday without too much difficulty (although to be phair, our cars are in a parking garage so he didn't have to dig out like a lot of pholks did).

The winds were awful--finally dying down this morning.

It's supposed to be close to 50 by the week's end.

You sure did send it here- we got 9 + inches. We initially had such heavy snow and winds that you couldn't drive. Then the winds were unbelievable through last night.

I'll be offline and in bed as I seem to have the flu. Does Celiac make you more susceptible to illnesses? I seem to just keep getting sick. Spent the past two days in bed already. We have all these movies we want to go see but right now getting the energy to shower is all I can muster. Clark is actually going to the supermarket with a mini shopping list.

I miss my psillies. Sending Non Contagious Hugs, smile.gif

Loey Lane

P.S. sorry if this was whiny. Clark's off for the whole week and so far I've slept through most of it. sad.gif

You may also need to supplement with B12 as this vitamin is also involved in iron assimilation and is often deficient in long-term undiagnosed celiac disease.
    • trents
@par18, no, Scott's use of the term "false negative" is intentional and appropriate. The "total IGA" test is not a test used to diagnose celiac disease per se. The IGA immune spectrum response encompasses more than just celiac disease. So, "total IGA" refers to the whole pie, not just the celiac response part of it. But if the whole pie is deficient, the spectrum of components making it up will likely be also, including the celiac disease response spectrum. In other words, IGA deficiency may produce a tTG-IGA score that is negative that might have been positive had there not been IGA deficiency. So, the tTG-IGA negative score may be "false", i.e, inaccurate, aka, not to be trusted.

This may be the problem. Every time you eat gluten it is like giving a booster shot to your immune system, telling it to react and produce antibodies again.

Scott, I am mostly asymptomatic. I was diagnosed based on high antibodies, low ferritin (3) and low vitamin D (10). I wasn't able to get in for the biopsy until 3 months after the blood test came back. I was supposed to keep eating gluten during this time. Well why would I continue doing something that I know to be harmful for 3 more months to just get this test? So I did quit gluten and had the biopsy. It was negative for celiacs. I continued gluten free with iron supps and my ferritin came back up to a reasonable, but not great level of around 30-35.  Could there be something else going on? Is there any reason why my antibodies would be high (>80) with a negative biopsy? could me intestines have healed that quickly (3 months)?  I'm having a hard time staying gluten free because I am asymptomatic and i'm wondering about that biopsy. I do have the celiacs gene, and all of the antibody tests have always come back high. I recently had them tested again. Still very high. I am gluten free mostly, but not totally. I will occasionally eat something with gluten, but try to keep to a minimum. It's really hard when the immediate consequences are nil.  with high antibodies, the gene, but a negative biopsy (after 3 months strict gluten-free), do i really have celiacs? please say no. lol. i think i know the answer.  Asa

I have had a long year of testing unfortunately still not diagnosed , although one thing they definitely agree I'm gluten intolerant, the thing for me I have severe back troubles they wouldnt perform the tests and I couldn't have a full MRI because I'm allergic to the solution , we tryed believe me  I tryed lol , another was to have another blood test after consuming gluten but it makes me so bad I tryed it for only a week, and because I have a trapped sciatic nerve when I get bad bowels it sets that off terribly so I just take it on myself now , I eat a gluten free diet , I'm the best I've ever been , and if I slip I know it so for me i have my own diagnosis  and I act accordingly, sometimes it's not so straight forward for some of us , for the first time in years I can plan to go out , and I have been absorbing my food better , running to the toilet has become occasionally now instead of all the time , i hope you find a solution 🤗
