OMG.. . .. ...just got back from the nearby sports bar, where I sat mesmerized, watching those incredible four-legged athletes tear up the track in Kentucky. Man, what a thrilling race. . . ... .... . . ..I'm still goose-bumpy.. ...... .B):)

That's MY excuse! Where in hell is everybody else?

Well, I started out by cooking some okra and mushrooms and garlic and chicken for breakfast. Got a bit glutened on Monday and the okra seems to help soothe things.

Then I went to the pizza shop up the block and bought two 2 liter bottles of Pepsi to kick my motor into gear. Have been having my usual sleep pattern issues and needed a little pickup.

Then I went to Union Station to Fantom Comics for free comic book day. I got 5 free comics and got a T-shirt for $3. I got Captain America and Thor, The Tick, The Green Lantern, The Amazing Spiderman, and Starwars. All free!

Then I went to Hyattsville to deliver a couple paintings for a show at the ArtDC gallery at noon, and stayed to help hang the show.

Then around 5:30 I headed to an art opening for the Big Ideas show at the Brentwood Arts District gallery. Drank some free art opening wine and took off my glasses to get up close and personal with the encuastic paintings.

Then I hit the Giant grocery on the way home and got some nessecaries (food, wine), and some spray starch. The starch is for an art project I am thinking of. But it is kind of scary since it doesn't say what kind of starch it is, just starch. I plan to spray the starch outdoors only since I am not sure it is safe.

Then I went online and found out I have to make excuses even though I don't live in Kansas! Geez, what a world! :D Those poor kidz of Care-ons... :D

Gee Eff, you did have a busy and profitable day . You scammed free wine & 5 comics.

Spray starch used to be corn starch. I have seen recipes years ago to make your own with corn starch. Seems like the last time I used spray starch it was made by the company that makes the cooking corn starch.

No Archies??? Dear gawd, I have, honestly, about two thousand Archie comics and two hundred Archie digests from the 1970s, packed away in boxes....waiting, now, I suppose, for grandkids......Although the odd time I will pick one out to revisit Betty and Veronica, Mr. Lodge, Dilton Doiley. . . ......and I always seemed to have a thing for Reggie, scoundrel that he was. What in hell do all the girls see in Archie, anyways?? Strange, fiery hair, stranger clothes, drives an old jalopy.. . . ....

However, he'd be the one I would like to be with my daughter....

What kind of artwork are you using spray starch on, Jeee-Eff?

I have been watching the young men putting a new roof on across the street. Good thing thier mothers aren't here! They would be terrified. This is a very tall and steep roof. The run up & down with big boards & tools & packs of roofing. In 90 degree sunshine today.

Shudder!

Nope, no Archie! No Veronica or Jughead either! :D Shoot, whats wrong with Clark Kent for your daughter? Well, I guess he is already tied up with Lois Lane tho. :(

I want to try some feathers in my encaustics. I figure if I spray them with starch first they will stay the shape I want when I put the wax on them. Just an experiment to see what happens.

I realized it is actually important to get an official diagnosis because then insurance can cover bone density testing and other lab work to see if any further damage has been done because of it. Also, if hospitalized for whatever reason, I have the right to gluten-free food if I am officially celiac. I guess it gives me some legal protections. Plus, I have 4 kids, and I really want to know. If I really do have it then they may have increased risk.

Been off this forum for years. Is it that important that you get an official diagnosis of something? It appears like you had a trigger (wheat, gluten, whatever) and removing it has resolved your symptom. I can't speak for you, but I had known what my trigger was (gluten) years before my diagnosis I would just stay gluten-free and get on with my symptom free condition. I was diagnosed over 20 years ago and have been symptom free only excluding wheat, rye and barley. I tolerate all naturally gluten free whole foods including things like beans which actually helps to form the stools.

No coincidence. Recent revisions to gluten challenge guidelines call for the daily consumption of at least 10g of gluten (about the amount in 4-6 slices of wheat bread) for a minimum of 3 weeks. If possible, I would extend that two weeks to ensure valid testing.

Thank you both for the replies. I decided to bring back gluten so I can do the blood test. Today is Day #2 of the Challenge. Yesterday I had about 3 slices of whole wheat bread and I woke up with urgent diarrhea this morning. It was orange, sandy and had the distinctive smell that I did not have when I was briefly gluten free. I don't know if it's a coincidence, but the brain fog is back and I feel very tired.

@Jane02, I hear you about the kale and collard greens.  I don't do dairy and must eat green leafies, too, to get sufficient calcium.  I must be very careful because some calcium supplements are made from ground up crustacean shells.  When I was deficient in Vitamin D, I took high doses of Vitamin D to correct the deficiency quickly.  This is safe and nontoxic.  Vitamin D level should be above 70 nmol/L.  Lifeguards and indigenous Pacific Islanders typically have levels between 80-100 nmol/L.   Levels lower than this are based on amount needed to prevent disease like rickets and osteomalacia. We need more thiamine when we're physically ill, emotionally and mentally stressed, and if we exercise like an athlete or laborer.  We need more thiamine if we eat a diet high in simple carbohydrates.  For every 500 kcal of carbohydrates, we need 500-1000 mg more of thiamine to process the carbs into energy.  If there's insufficient thiamine the carbs get stored as fat.  Again, recommended levels set for thiamine are based on minimum amounts needed to prevent disease.  This is often not adequate for optimum health, nor sufficient for people with absorption problems such as Celiac disease.  Gluten free processed foods are not enriched with vitamins like their gluten containing counterparts.  Adding a B Complex and additional thiamine improves health for Celiacs.  Thiamine is safe and nontoxic even in high doses.  Thiamine helps the mitochondria in cells to function.  Thiamine interacts with each of the other B vitamins.  They are all water soluble and easily excreted if not needed.
