You & especially thier child, Hub, must put your foot down. You are not able to have guests, you are moving. You would love to have them in 2 weeks, 1 month... when you are settled and able to enjoy a visit. Everything is packed. You have plenty of helpers. I have a feeling MIL will set up your kitchen, etc.

Honestly, they can't come just decide to come without an invitation. Your husband is going to have to put his foot down with these people. YOu doing it probably won't matter. You are just that stupid girl who took thier son away.

I have no pull communicating with them. Not only am I the stupid girl that took their son away but I'm the stupid Yankee girl who stole their Southern boy's heart (never mind that he was 33 when I married him). Unfortunatley they have already requested work off and are driving across 8 states to get here. We said they could come the week AFTER we were done moving. They decided to come early and "help". My hubby has not seen his parents for two years so I can't say no to them visiting. We have visited my family more often even though both sets of parents live about the same distance away. I think the way this will play out is they will show up, I will show them the room piled with boxes and the small floor of the living room on which they can stay and they will either go to a hotel or stay with us for the night and complain the entire time. I am telling my husband he better fairly warn them of the sleeping arrangements they face if they want to stay with us and to reccommend a hotel but like any Southern parents they expect no less than Southern hospitality and expect to stay with us. Suggesting a hotel is the height of rudeness to them. At the new place they at least will have their own room (with an airmatress on the floor) and a guest bath to use.

Tell them "Great! Everything is packed, and the office is full of boxes, so bring sleeping bags and you can sleep on the kitchen floor." Ask them to pick up some instant coffee on their way, and some disposable bowls, and maybe extra milk so you can all have breakfast together before you get started. You'll provide the cereal.

LOL! Only one of them would FIT on my current kitchen floor! Maybe another one can sleep in the bathtub?

Oh and I dare not suggest milk to them...since I started having anaphyalctic reactions to dairy our house has been dairy free. They will NOT be happy when I hand them the coconut milk to put in their coffee.:o:(

Southern manners do not say to go to someone's house uninvited. They requested time off from work without even asking to visit? There is a reason your hub hasn't seen them in 2 years.

Do what Jess suggested. Have you hub tell them to bring sleeping bags &that everything, including the extra towels, cooking equipment, etc is packed. He also needs to tell them the food rules of your new place or they will bring donuts or something in. He needs to enforce it. He is a grown- up & must act like one, even with his parents.

They didn't invite themselves, we said they could come. Just not the day BEFORE we moved! I expected them to come the week after. Even though things would still be packed mostly I could handle them being here a week (or even a few days) later because we would have more rooms for them to stay in if they want. I'm going to talk to DH and see if maybe they will take two days instead of one to drive it. It is a 16 hour drive. MIL is afraid to fly. That would at least make it so they are showing up on the day of the move and we would have extra rooms and baths to put them in. My hubby has been good so far about enforcing the food rules with non-family. We'll see how he handles his parents. I'm not above being rude if I have to if they try to brinf food in. But every conversation I have ever had with them has resulted in a misunderstanding. I so don't want to do this. :(

geez......moving is stessful enough.....

No advice......just my sympathy.

And let's hope they make it a 2-day trip. ;)

No more open ended invitations to these people. Next time, set a date for them to come.

I guess sometimes rude people only understand rudeness back. Or maybe you're not rude, you're assertive.

Give them some jobs. Like MIL - here are 2 boxes that need to go in the linen closet. Who really cares how she arranges that. We like our kitchens in a certain way. Boxes of stuff for a bookcase. You can re-arrange later beause you don't have to try to use it everyday. At least the boxes will be out of the way.

I'm assertive and it comes off as rudeness to them. Actually, I'm a planner and they are not planners at all. I like to know details of things such as where will we sleep if we visit? Or does that hotel we plan to stay at have a free breakfast buffet? The hotel they stayed at for our wedding did not have free breakfst. They had to PAY for breakfast. They were not happy about that. I have tried to warn them about things like this in advance ever since then and I always come off as sounding rude, they ignore my warning and then complain when what I tried to warn them about happened. They don't use the internet except for e-mail. They don't know how to research things like hotel choices in advance.

I like the idea of giving specific jobs but doubt they will listen to me. We do have lots of books and bookcases to fill. I will just rearrange my kitchen after they leave if they end up doing that.

Might I suggest alcohol to help you get thru the move? That's what Em uses to get thru her MIL visits . . . Ruhshelle, too. No driving the moving truck, tho.

Well, the inlaws are teetotalers so that might make it worse! But at least I would not have to worry about them visiting again anytime soon!

Bring on the wodka! In the morning coffee, a big splash of vanilla whipped wodka, in the lunch soda, a big splash of cherry wodka, in the evening cocktail, a big splash of ANY kind of wodka in my wodka martini!!

That fixes it ALL! :lol::lol:

So I should just have you over and my in-laws will never speak to me again! Okay so the moving truck gets here at 9 AM. You show up with the wodka around 10, ok?

Just keep drinking! That is how I handle my evil FIL. Course I haven't seen him in 1 1/2 years so I must have another excuse for my wine! :o I think I will use your ILs.

Maybe you can handle them like I do FIL if he ever comes back. I mostly ignore him. Only speak what is neccessary like "The one in the red dish is spicy" One of the SIL & I ate in the kitchen while everyone else ate in the dining room (lied & said not enough room in dining room). My boys took the other grandkids to eat in the basement. None of them were too pleased with something the FIL had recently done.

9 am is champagne & OJ time! IF I lived close, I would so be there! I helped SIL move. I can't carry anything heavy, so I took care of the delicate things & bossed the men around. "That's clothes! Don't leave that in the middle of the kitchen!"

LOL! I figured I would set drinking time at 10 so at least some of the truck would get loaded but sure we can start with some screwdrivers. And Kininkink Donuts! :D

You have a lot of helpers. WE can drink & supervise! For donuts & OJ & BBQ chicken for lunch, my boys will help, too!

Shouldn't you be packing? Are you on here avoiding what you should be doing? (Of course I'm not doing that!)

I have a few weeks!

But I am avoiding making dinner.

The boys can have BBQ chicken for lunch AND dinner if they come help load and unload the truck. And make sure they annoy my MIL by talking lots while eating! Oh that's another reason they can't stand me...at family dinners in their house no one talks! Seriously, every meal feels like a funeral. When I was growing up it was a loud talking, eating and drinking party at every meal. Holidays were always about my relative telling jokes while passing food around. It's taken me a long time to get my hubby trained to talk to me at a meal. Now he's at a point where if we don't eat together he talks my ear off later because he missed talking to me over a meal. :D

The mimosas start at 8 here. Tis interesting when brunch is served at 10. Never know how it'll turn out and by that time, who cares!

I have 14 bottles in my freezer right now. If you want something else, let me know and I'll raid the cupboards and see you at 10. We have everything, and if you think I'm joking.... I'm not! My MIL is so proud! Adds to her theory that I'm going to Hell and taking my kids with me (I don't give them the drink yet....well there was that one time 2 years ago with the whiskey buttercream... Have you ever had whiskey buttercream?? WHOA!!! I digress...) I wonder what would happen if I converted the kids and I from Catholisism to Judaism...... It's almost worth it just to see the aftermath...

Sh!t, dd is going to spend a week there in August. Must start extra brainwashing now. I shall teach her the rosary and send her with a few extra sets of beads to hand out at will. Perhaps a vial of holy water...

They also require gatorade & Mt Dew. I will have them talk endlessly about servos & regulators, fireworks & violent vidoe games. Then they can hit each other & burp! I will tell them under no circumstances to help with the cooking, warming up, serving or cleaning up of the foodstuffs. Perhaps they can spill blue gatorade on MIL's lovely white blouse? The blue doesn't come out of cotton.

Once the ILs go home, you can have the boys back for dinner. They will make a gluten-free dessert & help you grill or make pasta. They can talk about movies & thier jobs and normal stuff.

My MIL told my hub when we were dating that we Catholics just want to have 12 kids & take over the world. 2 of her 3 son's married Catholics & one became Catholic.

This happened to me as well. What’s weirder is that within a couple hours of taking paxlovid it subsided. I thought maybe I got glutened but after reading your post not so sure.

Hi Tiffany. Thank you for writing your dituation and  circumstancesin such detail and so well writte, too. I particularly noticed what you wrote about brain for and feeling like your brain is swelling and I know from my own experiences that's how it feel and your brain really does swell and you get migraines.    Way back when I was in my 20s I read a book by 2 MD allergist and they described their patient who came in complaining that her brain, inside her cranium, was swelling  and it happened when she smelled a certain chemical she used in her home. She kept coming back and insisting her brain actually swelled in her head. The Drs couldn't explain this problem so they, with her permission, performed an operation where they made a small opening through her cranium, exposed her to the chemical then watched as she brain did swell into the opening. The DRs were amazed but then were able to advise her to avoid chemicals that made her brain swell. I remember that because I occasionally had brain fog then but it was not a serious problem. I also realized that I was becoming more sensitive to chemicals I used in my work in medical laboratories. By my mid forties the brain fog and chemicals forced me to leave my  profession and move to a rural area with little pollution. I did not have migraines. I was told a little later that I had a more porous blood brain barrier than other people. Chemicals in the air would go up into my sinused and leak through the blood brain barrier into my brain. We have 2 arteries  in our neck that carry blood with the nutrients and oxygen into the brain. To remove the fluids and used blood from the brain there are only capillaries and no large veins to carry it away so all those fluids ooze out much more slowly than they came in and since the small capillaries can't take care of extra fluid it results in swelling in the face, especially around the eyes. My blood flow into my brain is different from most other people as I have an arterial ischema, adefectiveartery on one side.   I have to go forward about 20 or more years when I learned that I had glaucoma, an eye problem that causes blindness and more years until I learned I had celiac disease.  The eye Dr described my glaucoma as a very slow loss of vision that I wouldn't  notice until had noticeable loss of sight.  I could have my eye pressure checked regularly or it would be best to have the cataracts removed from both eyes. I kept putting off the surgery then just overnight lost most of the vision in my left eye. I thought at the I had been exposed to some chemical and found out a little later the person who livedbehind me was using some chemicals to build kayaks in a shed behind my house. I did not realize the signifance  of this until I started having appointments with a Dr. in a new building. New buildings give me brain fog, loss of balance and other problems I know about this time I experienced visual disturbances very similar to those experienced by people with migraines. I looked further online and read that people with glaucoma can suffer rapid loss of sight if they have silent migraines (no headache). The remedy for migraines is to identify and avoid the triggers. I already know most of my triggers - aromatic chemicals, some cleaning materials, gasoline and exhaust and mold toxins. I am very careful about using cleaning agents using mostly borax and baking powder. Anything that has any fragrance or smell I avoid. There is one brand of dishwashing detergent that I can use and several brands of  scouring powder. I hope you find some of this helpful and useful. I have not seen any evidence that Celiac Disease is involved with migraines or glaucoma. Please come back if you have questions or if what I wrote doesn't make senseto you. We sometimes haveto learn by experience and finding out why we have some problems. Take care.       The report did not mention migraines.

Hi Jmartes71 That is so much like my story! You probably know where Laytonville is and that's where I was living just before my 60th birthday when the new Dr. suggested I could have Celiacs. I didn't go on a gluten challange diet before having the Celiac panel blood test drawn. The results came back as equivical as one antibody level was very high but another, tissue transaminasewas normal. Itdid show I was  allergic to cows milk and I think hot peppers. I immediately went gluten free but did not go in for an endoscopy. I found an online lab online that would do the test to show if I had a main celiac gene (enterolab.com). The report came back that I had inherited a main celiac gene, DQ8, from one parent and a D!6 from the other parent. That combination is knows to sym[tons of celiac worse than just inheriting one main celiac gene. With my version of celiac disease I was mostly constipated but after going gluten-free I would have diarrhea the few times I was glutened either by cross contamination or eating some food containing gluten. I have stayed gluten-free for almost 20 years now and knew within a few days that it was right for me although my recovery has been slow.   When I go to see a  medical provide and tell them I have celiacs they don't believe me. The same when I tell them that I carry a main celiac gene, the DQ8. It is only when I tell them that I get diarrhea after eating gluten that they realize that I might have celiac disease. Then they will order th Vitamin B12 and D3 that I need to monitor as my B12 levels can go down very fast if I'm not taking enough of it. Medical providers haven't been much help in my recovery. They are not well trained in this problem. I really hope this helps ypu. Take care.
