It's a lot easier to make poor choices if you know someone will rescue you. I still think the only help you should offer your brother is teaching him to manage things better. Digging yourself out of holes teaches you to avoid them in the future.

Your decision to help your daughter makes sense. You feel like she's beginning to act like an adult and you want to encourage that. I would still make them pay rent, but you could have it be by putting money into a college fund for the baby. Even if it's only $10 a month, they'll be aware that what you are doing is nice, not an obligation.

Here I go again agreeing--but this is such excellent advice!

Not feeling well today :( While I was out I bought some Pacific chicken broth and I'm going to use that as a shortcut to have some homemade chicken soup later. Will add me own veggies and chicken :)

Take the class. It's not like you've had a carefree life and this is just one more foolish indulgence - you have earned this.

Couldn't agree more!!!

Dang, she's good!!!

Tis quite a pleasure actually. You can do it alone, or with someone special near you. Try putting on some music you really enjoy. Maybe light a few candles, and then, just........go for it! You'll be so happy when you achieved excellence! You'll want to do it over and over again! Just don't forget the pleasures of plussing other people. We all need variety, after all.

My niece (not mentioned previously) just got a degree in Latin and Italian. But even better, she just passed bartending school! Which one do you think will actually support her? May have to invite her to KC to demonstrate her education. She can give all the drinks Latin names.

Thanks everyone for the support.

I know..... I'm too much of a softee. But truth be told......I've turned down my brother many times. When he lost his apartment he needed help moving all his furniture into storage....from a second story apartment. He knows I have fibro. And my husband, with one leg, has enough trouble with stairs as it is. There was no way. A couple months later he told me he almost committed suicide that day. Talk about a guilt trip! <_<

OMG.. ... ..... . ... ..now, is it possible for the Plussee to view who the Plusser is?? Mygawd, he cannot know that it was me. .......how embarrassing. This would take away the whole mystery, the entire magic of it being some sudden, crazed action by a fellow member ... . ....

Soooo sleepy! Took full advantage of the one sunny day we've had in weeks. I'm too tired to get up and make dinner for my kids. Would probably just do a cereal night if dd didn't have a friend over ;) It was a great day and my first modeling chocolate rose didn't turn out half bad--not picture quality yet, but maybe tomorrow ;)

My DD has one there....cat's eyes and whiskers. I know she said it was more sensitive because there's no fatty tissue there, but I don't know the extent of the pain.

I got an airbrushed one today for 3$. It's scented and everything :P Thought I'd try it out and see if I still like it in a week....I really want to get the Celtic love knot. It's lovely and meaningful--that's what I've been searching for for years!!

Then today my brother calls. He mentions how little money he has but doesn't actually ask for any, and I'm not going to offer if he doesn't have the balls to ask.

And I don't want to give up my chance at this class.

So now I feel guilty. I don't want to feel guilty, but I do.

I know it's been said over and over, but take the class!!! Went through some similar stuff with my brother too, he was living with us temporarily while he was "getting back on his feet" but he actually started stealing money from me AND my kids to support his heroin habit. It was devastating! I kicked him out and he went AWOL for months. My mom finally tracked him down and I ended up leaving home for a few days to help detox him. I told his this was the last help of any kind he would ever get from me unless he cleaned himself up for good and he'd NEVER see another dime from me no matter what. He was 2 years clean last week :)

Thank gawd I did not volunteer to be at all involved in this spring camp up here. Yesterday had intermittent showers, and it's just plain raining today. Sitting in tents with a bunch of thirteen year-old boys, no ipods, DVD players.... . ......just each other.. ....GAH. :o

M's troop says that moms are welcome at camp or overnight camping trips. However, they tell you that this is a male event and it's not the same with moms around. Moms do not like some of the things like camping with no actual latrines. Making only Ramen noodles and oreos for breakfast. Our group let's them plan food and suffer the consequences.

I'm holding another as yet unphrootphul open house.....

Did I tell ya'll that the wee bird is still making appearances at my bathroom window? He usually shows up in the morning, and pecks on the glass. I stood right there and watched him and it didn't faze him a bit. He's really pretty--light brown wif a bright orange beak. :D

It's great to hear that the trip went well, and the general consensus I hear about gluten-free travel in Europe, including my own experiences, is that it is much easier done in comparison to traveling and eating gluten-free in the USA.
    • CJF
Safely home from my recent trip to the UK. I had zero gut issues while traveling around this pretty country. Our tour leader was very good at making sure the 2 of us with gluten issues on our tour were well taken care of.  We often got our meals before the rest of the group and adaptations to the menu for us were well thought out and very tasty. I just wish restaurants here in the USA took as much pride in making food that everyone can enjoy. Many of the hotels and pubs we ate at had numerous options that were safe for us with wheat/gluten restrictions to eat.

I am 73 years old and was diagnosed with Celiac disease, and started the gluten free diet 4 years ago.  This past spring,  I experienced sudden onset diarrhea, which was persistent for several weeks, before I had a colonoscopy.  I was told my colon looked normal, but the biopsy showed microscopic lymphocytic colitis.  I was asked at that time if I was still experiencing the diarrhea, and when I said yes, I was prescribed an 8 week course of Budesonide, which included the weaning off phase.  Budesonide is a steroid, but it is allegedly specific for the bowel, and has very few systemic side effects.  I must say, I experienced no side effects, except a couple little spots of persistent psoriasis went away.  I have one week of treatment left, and other than one loose stool very early in treatment, I have had no further bowel issues.  I was told that 80 percent of people go into an extensive, or even permanent, remission after taking Budesonide.  During the colonoscopy, two polyps were removed, and one was precancerous.  I know that colon cancer risks are higher in people with Celiac disease, so it was recommended that I have another coloscopy in five years.      Like your husband, I probably had untreated Celiac disease for years.  It makes one wonder if the chronic irritation and inflammation could lead to the development of microscopic lymphocytic colitis.  This disease is usually diagnosed in people over 50 years old, and occurs approximately in one out of every 1,000 people.        Incidentally, If your husband is prescribed Budesonide, it can be purchased significantly cheaper by using GoodRX.
    • Scott Adams
Thanks for sharing this! Talk about frustrating! It is complicated enough to try to keep track of which products are safe, but the concept of the same product sold at 2 different stores--one that is certified gluten-free and one that isn't--that is exactly why having celiac disease is still so difficult, and it is so easy to make mistakes!
