I'm about to change the subject here momentarily, and address the computer brainiacs in our midst (Peter? Ptaum? Janet?):

The visual field on my laptop is suddenly much smaller, i.e., pages will not all fit...I have to scroll across and then back to read all of the sentences. Now, this very likely has everything to do with the chaos of our current two-posts-out universe--I mean, coincidences just do not happen--but whatever the cause, I cannot fix it back. It's like the pages have been blown up a little, and they don't all fit on my screen. WHAT'S GOING ON? This is more than a Magic Triangle fix, I can just feel it......:rolleyes:

I jus' don' unnerstann' computers......

Emily--

Something like this happened to me the other night--I have Vista, and at the bottom right of the screen, somehow the size changed from 100% to 125% and the page didn't fit anymore.

Ridgewalker Contributor

GAH!!! The same thing is happening to me! Just started yesterday I think. I have to scroll over a little every time a new page loads because the words run off on the right a little bit. <_<

Ridgewalker Contributor

Whoops, double post. How did that happen??? Vortex! Vortex!

I have XP on this machine...I can't find anything that says 100%, or 125......

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr..........

Just ran up and checked the desk top that has XP--look at the bottom right just over where the time is. It should say 100% with an arrow beside it that drops down other %'s.

Gotta go get dinner--hope that helped :)

What Patti is referring to is in Internet Explorer. I don't normally use it; I use Mozilla Firefox for most things. I haven't seen a problem with Firefox, but I just used IE to look at the board, and noticed that I had horizontal scroll bars. I reduced it to 88% and they went away.

In IE, pressing <ctrl>+ will zoom the view in, <ctrl>- will zoom out. You can do this by accident. Or your cat can do it for you.

Oh, Peter! I use Firefox, too.....and I have the horizontal scroll bar....that's what I have to use to read the sentences in full! Bizarre.....I don't seem to have Patti's magic percentage arrow, either...... :(

Wait....I'll try the IE trick with CNTRL -............

Hmmmmmm......nope.

I'll keep trying. Carry on!!

Patti, you mentioned that Broncobux had a Celiac group at MySpace....do you know if he still has one? I couldn't find any celiac group actually, but maybe I am not searching in the right place.

Are you going away for you Dad's b-day party, or was it an anniversary (I can't remember) that you were asking about invitations in another thread?

Bev, the Cape?? I wish we had things like that out west. The Cape sounds so exciting, like royalty, will you be lunching with the Kennedy's? HAVE FUN!

Ridgewalker Contributor

I use Firefox, too. I don't have a kitty, but my kids frequently to odd things to the computer.

Okay....it's absolutely incredible, but I figured this one out on my own..... clicked on settings while on my desktop, then reconfigured my resolutions. Mygawd--I actually did that?:lol:

Have a wonderful weekend away, Patti--I'll be thinking of your dad when I'm at my mom's.... HAPPY EIGHTIETH, MR. PATTI SR.! :):)

Julie,

I don't know if the Celiac group is still active. For the life of me, I can't remember much about it to give you a clue as to what to look for. I'm drawing a blank, I'm afraid. This was quite a while ago.

Yes--it's my dad's birthday party tomorrow :)

What exactly is the difference between Facebook and Myspace? Are they not essenially the same thing?

That's ok Patti, thanks for trying.

I don't see any sign of any group related to celiac, the groups do come and go so maybe Broncobux's group is no longer. It would have been fun to see if some of the older members of the forum who don't come around anymore were in that group.

Happy Birthday to your dad. What an amazing thing to celebrate! 80 years :D

Emily, I would say yes they are basically the same thing. Both are social networking websites.

They might vary a little with the features that are offered, like with MySace you can put music up on your page and videos, I'm not sure if you can do that with Face book.

Wow--I'm really glad that you found the % thingy--I shoulda thought to tell you about it, but it never dawned on me. The only reason I even thought of it for Emily is because mine somehow switched over recently and I couldn't see the edges.

Testing can't alone be trusted.  Else why would it take so many years of testing and retesting and misdiagnosis to finally be told, yes you have Celiac Disease. As to what to eat, I like pre 1950 style food.  Before the advent of TV dinners.  Fresh food is better for you, and cooking from scratch is cheaper.  Watch Rachel Ray's 30 Minute Meals for how to cook.  Keep in mind that she is not gluten free, but her techniques are awesome.  Just use something else instead of wheat, barley, rye. Dr Fuhrman is a ex cardiologist.  His book Eat to Live and Dr Davis' book Wheatbelly were instrumental in my survival.

If you have DH you will likely also want to avoid iodine, which is common in seafoods and dairy products, as it can exacerbate symptoms in some people. This article may also be helpful as it offers various ways to relieve the itch--thanks for the tip about Dupixent, and I've added it to the article:

I just want to clarify that what I posted is a category of research summaries we've done over the years, and nearly each one shows that there is definitely a connection to celiac disease and migraine headaches. The latest study said: "the study did indicate some potential causal associations between celiac disease and migraine with or without aura, as well as between migraine without aura and ulcerative colitis...this study did not find evidence of a shared genetic basis..." Anyway, there is definitely a connection, and you can go through more of the articles here if you're interested: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/celiac-disease-amp-related-diseases-and-disorders/migraine-headaches-and-celiac-disease/

Two months ago, I started taking Dupixent for dermatitis herpetiformis and it has completely cleared it up. I can't believe it! I have had a terrible painful, intensely itchy rash for over a year despite going fully gluten-free. See if your doctor will prescribe Dupixent. It can be expensive but I am getting it free. When the dermatitis herpetiformis was bad I could not do anything. I just lay in bed covered in ice packs to ease the pain/itching and using way too Clobetasol. Dapsone is also very good for dermatitis herpetiformis (and it is generic). It helped me and the results were immediate but it gave me severe anemia so the Dupixent is better for me. Not sure if it works for everyone. I cannot help with the cause of your stress but from experience I am sure the severe stress is making the celiac and dermatitis herpetiformis worse. Very difficult for you with having children to care for and you being so sick. Would this man be willing to see a family therapist with you? He may be angry at you or imagine that your illness is a psychosomatic excuse not to take care of him. A therapist might help even if he won't go with you. Also do you have any family that you could move in with (with the kids) for a short time to get away? A break may be good for you both.

@tiffanygosci, Thiamine deficiency is a thing in pregnancy for "normal" people, so it's exponentially more important for those with celiac disease and malabsorption issues. I studied nutrition before earning a degree in Microbiology because I was curious what the vitamins were doing inside the body.  See my blog.  Click on my name to go to my page, scroll to drop down menu "activities" and select blog.   So glad you're motivated to see the dietician!  We're always happy to help with questions.  Keep us posted on your progress!
