gotta clean my house, Stepford neighbor is coming by this morning :o:ph34r:

What you don't get is that she cleans her house all the time because every time she sees yours, you've just cleaned it!!!:lol:

No....it involved religious discussions, I think. that specific thread has been removed. Harumph! I want Vincent back - - I begged him to at least get his mullett-ed self back to 40-something...too much pressure on Richard to sustain ALL the testosterone.........

Too bad! :(

What's going on lately??

Happy Birthday Tavi! What's a number anyway - it's all about attitude.

Susan - I live south of Seattle. We used to be considered rural, lots of trees everywhere, everyone has at least 1/3 acre, etc. Weyerhaeuser decided to develop some big chunks of land and flattened everything all around our neighborhood. Six houses to an acre! Huge houses with only 10 feet in between them, 6 feet at the eves (sp?).

Rusla - I agree - I actually feel sorry for the coyotes. They lived in those woods with no problems for longer than we've been here, now they're starving and have no place to go. The problem is that our old neighborhood has big yards and lots of wooded areas so they can hide, so they all came here and are eating cats, chickens and anything else they can find. But they can't have my puppy!

Andrea - at some point I might make a trip down to Lingonberries to find stocking stuffers for my kids. It might be cheaper than paying shipping on things like licorice. I'll combine it with a trip to Centralia to the outlet mall there. It would be fun to meet you!

I missed the thread that Vincent had a problem on - is he gone for good? I hope not.

no.....I have a key to her house, she has called me from teh road to let her dog out....IT IS PERFECT - - a sink/countertop/stove that look as though they've never been used...I think she is appalled by my unfinished projects, doesn't comprehend that creativity works at its own pace.....and me? I work even MORE slowly these days...... Maybe I'll run over there and give her back her...what's it called....some electric sawing thing - to circumvent her trip to my house...brillinat idea!

Liz - - I LOVE SEATTLE and all environs - tried to move there - 15 years ago applied for teaching job on Bainbridge Island - - OMG - when I drove onto Bainbridge, I literally wept - felt as though I'd come home. Can't explain it - have never felt that anywhere else in such an overwhelming way. Maybe I need to vacation there and find a single man with a fabulous cabin-ish abode...

Bev - what say you? ;)

It's definitely beautiful up here, but we try to tell everyone it rains all the time so too many people don't move here. Well, that hasn't worked, it's getting overcrowded... Anyway, I love Puget Sound and all the islands. Have you ever been to the San Juans? I never get tired of our annual camping trip up there.

I hope you have a very happy Birthday, Tavi! :)

I just popped in briefly....I now have internet, phone, and cable TV! I'm surrounded by boxes but I'll be able to check in every so often. I enjoyed the jokes----I need them right now!

By the way-What is Daily Strength? Numerous people have mentioned it and I don't know what site it is?

Back to boxes....but it feels like home already. Now we just have to find my husband a job so he can move up here...its going to get lonely real quick!

Hope yall have a great day....

xoxo

Thanks Laura

I just googled daily strength but haven't had any luck getting on the site yet. I think it's a site for daily strength through a christian perspective. I see a few people from this site posting there. I am trying to check it out but can't seem to get through the sign up process

You are so right. She's got beauty (inside out outside), brains and personality.

Hey Carla, you must have done something right. :P

morganb Newbie

Well, since I don't come to celiac.com very often anymore, Mom keeps me updated on where the good conversations are. I heard that this was the place....I wasn't planning on writing anything though until I saw all the "happy birthdays"

The ish's are confusing me  Do you get an ish if you're not forty, yet you still come on? (And thanks for your Fabul-ish Julie :D )

CarlaB Enthusiast

You have been very busy since I've been gone!!

Yes, Morgan is an ish-ish-ish!! And we do hate her hair -- it's always so ugly  She gets up in the morning and it looks great ... I try to fix mine, and it looks like I just got up.

Thanks Andrea ... I musta done something right .... don't know when that happened! :P

Hi MO!!! Did you have fun with Daddy yesterday????

Do you get an ish if you're not forty, yet you still come on?

Yes, if you're in your thirties, you're an ish ... 20's is an ish-ish. As in 40 ish, ish.

Richard, being a man and not a woman, is woman-ish!!:lol:

morganb Newbie

Yeah I did, I also enjoyed my gluten free brownie with ice cream

Oh, he didn't tell me you went to Outback! Did you get a steak, too, or just dessert? Either way, it's better than dorm food!

morganb Newbie

I went straight to the dessert...it'd be impossible for me to eat a steak too....my stomach doesn't work that way.

Testing can't alone be trusted.  Else why would it take so many years of testing and retesting and misdiagnosis to finally be told, yes you have Celiac Disease. As to what to eat, I like pre 1950 style food.  Before the advent of TV dinners.  Fresh food is better for you, and cooking from scratch is cheaper.  Watch Rachel Ray's 30 Minute Meals for how to cook.  Keep in mind that she is not gluten free, but her techniques are awesome.  Just use something else instead of wheat, barley, rye. Dr Fuhrman is a ex cardiologist.  His book Eat to Live and Dr Davis' book Wheatbelly were instrumental in my survival.

If you have DH you will likely also want to avoid iodine, which is common in seafoods and dairy products, as it can exacerbate symptoms in some people. This article may also be helpful as it offers various ways to relieve the itch--thanks for the tip about Dupixent, and I've added it to the article:

I just want to clarify that what I posted is a category of research summaries we've done over the years, and nearly each one shows that there is definitely a connection to celiac disease and migraine headaches. The latest study said: "the study did indicate some potential causal associations between celiac disease and migraine with or without aura, as well as between migraine without aura and ulcerative colitis...this study did not find evidence of a shared genetic basis..." Anyway, there is definitely a connection, and you can go through more of the articles here if you're interested: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/celiac-disease-amp-related-diseases-and-disorders/migraine-headaches-and-celiac-disease/

Two months ago, I started taking Dupixent for dermatitis herpetiformis and it has completely cleared it up. I can't believe it! I have had a terrible painful, intensely itchy rash for over a year despite going fully gluten-free. See if your doctor will prescribe Dupixent. It can be expensive but I am getting it free. When the dermatitis herpetiformis was bad I could not do anything. I just lay in bed covered in ice packs to ease the pain/itching and using way too Clobetasol. Dapsone is also very good for dermatitis herpetiformis (and it is generic). It helped me and the results were immediate but it gave me severe anemia so the Dupixent is better for me. Not sure if it works for everyone. I cannot help with the cause of your stress but from experience I am sure the severe stress is making the celiac and dermatitis herpetiformis worse. Very difficult for you with having children to care for and you being so sick. Would this man be willing to see a family therapist with you? He may be angry at you or imagine that your illness is a psychosomatic excuse not to take care of him. A therapist might help even if he won't go with you. Also do you have any family that you could move in with (with the kids) for a short time to get away? A break may be good for you both.

@tiffanygosci, Thiamine deficiency is a thing in pregnancy for "normal" people, so it's exponentially more important for those with celiac disease and malabsorption issues. I studied nutrition before earning a degree in Microbiology because I was curious what the vitamins were doing inside the body.  See my blog.  Click on my name to go to my page, scroll to drop down menu "activities" and select blog.   So glad you're motivated to see the dietician!  We're always happy to help with questions.  Keep us posted on your progress!
