Yes, I've heard him speak - a couple times he has been one of the speakers at the Fibromyalgia Conference here in the Kansas City area. He has a "radical" idea that diet directly relates to health. He has a website Open Original Shared Link where he outlines his diet and lifestyle protocal - he will not see anyone who is not willing to follow this. BUT, he is very good at what he does and if one is willing to follow his diet and other treatments I think he could fix about anything.

His recommended diet contains no grains and no nightshades, and I think no root vegetables, and no legumes. This effectively deals with yeast overgrowth, gluten and other grain intolerances, soy allergies, and reactions to the salicylates in nightshades. (There's much more to the diet that I don't recall now - it's been a few years since I was a regular at his site.)

He also has a lot of health-related articles on his website and it is a wealth of information. And, you can read about his medical training background and credentials.

Edit: I just checked out his site. There's a "new patient tour" that might be informative (didn't go there, just saw the link). His site is rather "busy" so it takes a bit of looking around.

I've been a subscriber to Mercola's website for some time and I've gotten to really respect him. I am actively exploring his accupressure technique called EFT (actually, it was developed by Gary Craig, but Dr. Mercola practices it and has a wealth of information on it). So far, I've seen some really encouraging results. So I, too, would get in to see him in a New York minute if I were closer to him!

I believe his is the most active alternative site. I get his newsletter.

I want to see if he can help with my joint pain issues.

If you are able to see him, I say go for it. He may very well be able to help you.

I'm in california, but I will persue the best health care I can find. I was wondering if he was worth the effort. Thankyou

I get his newsletter and it is great. I too want to explore the EFT process. His diet is called Metobolic typing. Based on what he believes to be your type, you are recommended to eat a certain way. Either lots of protien (animal) and no grains, mixed or lots of grains. I did a little questionarre that said I am a protein type. I am sure we all are. The diet seems kind of hard and recomends organ meats. As a former vegetarian who hates red meat I am a bit queasy about that. I may try it at some point, but am not ready yet. I already eat lots of poultry and veggies. I am not quite ready to give up my rice wraps yet! You can have raw dairy on the diet which is yummy! You can also do long distance consult with him. I am considering this.

I like most of his stuff.

Loraleena, I don't eat organ meats either and will not start. I eat beef, chicken, turkey and salmon. I am also not into raw eggs so will continue eating those cooked.

Loraleena, you are misinformed on the metabolic typing diet. His diet is a no-grain diet, no matter what type you are. You can easily get all the carbohydrates you need from just vegetables if you're a carbohydrate type. I have his book "Dr. Mercola's Total Health Cookbook and Program". The cookbook part is 150 grain-free recipes. The recipes are especially catering to a specific type, but he always suggests ways of altering them for the other types.

There is no way we're all protein types. I am, and maybe you are. So, we're supposed to eat lots of meat, a good amount of vegetables, and very little fruit. People that are carb types are supposed to eat lots of veggies, a moderate amount of fruit, and a little bit of meat. And the moderate type falls somewhere in between.

Too bad I can't use his recipes, because he uses lots of herbs, spices, all the vegetables I am intolerant to, and yes, he does use nightshades.

But his book is great for people who only have celiac disease, no other intolerances, since it is a completely grain-free diet. And the recipes look delicious!

I have his book/cookbook also. I am mixed type from what I can tell, more towards the protein side.

Ditto for me. Mixed type. His diet is wonderful for my diabetes, too. I can take full advantage of all his recipes, as I only have gluten and sugar to worry about. His Total Health book is a great resource of recipes for anyone, and every one I've tried has been great.

Thanks for your response.  Everything you mentioned he is and has been doing.  Tobacco is not the same as nicotine.  Nicotine, in the form of a patch, does not cause gastrointestinal irritation.  Smoking does. He is not smoking.  Please do your research before stating false information. Dr. Paul Newhouse has been doing research on nicotine the last 40 years at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Im so frustrated and still getting the run around trying to reprove my celiac disease which my past primary ignored for 25 years.I understand that theres a ray of medical that doctors are limited too but not listening and telling the patient ( me) that im not as sensitive as I think and NOT celiac!Correction Mr white coat its not what I think but for cause and affect and past test that are not sticking in my medical records.I get sick violently with foods consumed, not eating the foods will show Im fabulous. After many blood draws and going through doctors I have the HLA- DQ2 positive which I read in a study that Iran conducted that the severity in celiac is in that gene.Im glutenfree and dealing with related issues which core issue of celiac isn't addressed. My skin, right eye, left leg diagestive issues affected. I have high blood pressure because im in pain.Im waisting my time on trying to reprove that Im celiac which is not a disease I want, but unfortunately have. It  has taken over my life personally and professionally. How do I stop getting medically gaslight and get the help needed to bounce back if I ever do bounce back to normal? I thought I was in good care with " celiac specialist " but in her eyes Im good.Im NOT.Sibo positive, IBS, Chronic Fatigue just to name a few and its all related to what I like to call a ghost disease ( celiac) since doctors don't seem to take it seriously.

@Martha Mitchell, your reaction to the lens implant with gluten sounds like it could be an allergic reaction rather than a celiac reaction. It is possible for a celiac to be also allergic to gluten as it is a protein component in wheat, barley and rye.

Scott I also have different symptoms than most people. It affects me bad. Stomach ache, headache, nauseous, heart racing, whole body shaking, can't walk then my throat starts to close. It attacks my nervous system. The only thing that saves me is a 1/2 of Xanax...it calms down my nervous system
