Hi all; I see I missed yesterday. Some days it's hard to get on long enough to post as we only have one phone line. The phone has been very busy lately.

We spent today in town. I saw the doctor and the ultrasound came back just fine. So, no gall bladder problems. Now they are checking for ulcers. I had to take some blood tests today, and will see the surgeon next Tues. to arrange a scope. So will know more then. Apparently they now have a breath test to find ulcers ... however I'm on Periet and the breath test won't work when you are on Periet :( That would have been the easy way  Here's me looking for the easy stuff.

Kat; good for you quitting smoking! I quit over 20 years ago, and you are right ... it's a very difficult thing to do! What I really found was that you have to keep your hands busy. That's when I started quilting. I used quilting to quit smoking, and then ended up teaching it for 20 years. So quitting smoking gave me a bonus :P Good Luck!!! I know you can do it!!!

Autumn, that's a real bummer getting glutened. And trying to trace it after it happens is so hard. I hope you figure it out, so it doesn't happen again. And get feeling better real soon!

Deb, you've really been through the wringer, Good for you getting up and moving when they didn't expect you too ... and dancing now and then! Wow!

Way to Go Kathy! Getting out for that walk by yourself! You should be proud of yourself :D I got a lot of walking in today too. The snow is mostly gone now, so we have extended our morning walks with the dog. And of course got a lot of walking in around town today. We just park the van when we get there and walk most places. Much nicer ... especially today, beautiful sunshine and 57 degrees! :P

Liz, you really are lucky to be able to work out so close to home ... so when are they going to call you up for America's next top model? You will fit in with no problem

Patti, our youngest daughter quit smoking when she was pregnate too, but then she went and started up again after her son was born :( It's too bad, because now she is finding it harder to try and quit than it was. Her baby son will be 20 next month. I can't believe we have a grandson that old :o

Well, I guess I'd better get my email done as hubby wants the phone after his nap.

Today

B- gluten-free cereal and skim milk

L- Reeses Peanut butter cups (2) and a very small banana that got quished in the groceries

D- three pieces of well cooked and drained bacon, one egg and half an English muffin ... an orange

S- will be popcorn and glass of wine.

Thanks Patti, for those encouraging words. I'm sure I can do it !

Nicorette: It does help. It helps with those moments when you want to rip your hair out. Calms the nerves. I figure it has to be less toxic than 300 or so carcinogens, so I'll use it for a while to get me over the hump.

On another note, I've put in a personal photo of me & my guy - Everyone else seems to have personal photos. I suppose it couldn't hurt.

Anyway, I'm off ... to cook some more brocolli <_<

Take care, all

Kat, maybe you should take one thing at a time. You're gonna stress yourself out so much you end up falling off your food plan and going back to smoking! Take it from someone who's been there and done that. I quit smoking 20 years ago. Cold Turkey. I used CigArrest plan and listened to the motivation tape. They had pills but they made me jittery so I just used the tape. No gum for me. They didn't have it when I quit. I used jogging to get over the terrible tightness in my chest and cravings. The exercise made me breathe heavier and it felt better. It also made the nicotine and tar leave my lungs much faster than if I didn't exercise. If I had a bad craving..I'd go out and jog till it went away. In a month I didn't desire a cancer stick anymore.

It's just going to be hard enough for you quitting smoking and then you're changing your diet at the same time? I wouldn't recommend it.

I just spent 20 minutes typing a post with all personal messages and lost it. Arrgghh  Let's see if I can try to remember all of what I said.

Kat - It's nice to see what you look like! Your hubby looks like a wonderful guy. Interesting that your doctor told you to be on a low protein diet for your MCD. Mine told me to eat MORE protein. I don't worry about protein or salt (much) anymore - hopefully you'll get to that place too. Good for you to quit smoking! Hopefully we can give you some support.

"Liz, you really are lucky to be able to work out so close to home ... so when are they going to call you up for America's next top model? You will fit in with no problem "

Shirley - you are SO funny! LOLLL! I only have about 60 pounds to go to be an emaciated top model! I'm glad your gallbladder is okay. I hope they figure out what's wrong. I wish I had a drooling emoticon for the Reese's Peanut Butter Cups.

Patti - good to see you posting - I hope you get that pesky pound back off.

Diana - I used to love oatbran muffins. I put pumpkin and raisins in mine. I'm sensitive to oats now, so I can't have them anymore.

"Overall I would say I'm not in such bad shape for the shape I'm in. They never expected me to even wiggle my toes again, much less walk (I even dance on occasion )."

Deb - It's nice to see that you have such a good attitude! We're happy to have you here!

Cathy - way to be disciplined to get up early and go for a walk!

Autumn - hope you've recovered from your glutening!

Hope I didn't miss anyone! Has anyone "seen" Shannon around lately?

I had a good day today. I worked out before going to work at noon and ate well. I haven't had this much motivation in years!

B - small apple with 2 Tbs almond butter

L - Stir-fried chicken breast with onions, peppers, celery and cabbage, apple

D - Stew made with ground turkey, red potatoes, onions and carrots, with ketchup

BTW - my girls' basketball team has won 6 and only lost 1 game. We play the undefeated team on Thursday. My daughter's back is still injured - she's been to the chiropractor twice now and we aren't sure that she'll be able to play. I feel bad for her - she's a good player and we'll probably lose without her, but I don't want to take the chance if she's not ready. She missed yesterday's game, but it was an "easy" team and we didn't miss her too much.

Kat,

Well, here I am another one putting my hand up to being a non smoker.

I tried quite a few times to give up. Finally I gave up while pregnant with my last child, nearly 19 years ago. Not long after that the price went up and I thought, no way am I going to pay that much for smokes. I am not saying it is easy, it was hard. Good luck Kat, and hopefully you can do it.

I went cold turkey, the first few days are the worst, a lot like brain fog, and then things settled down and I felt better, but I found it easier to take myself away from situations that would put me up against smokers. It seemed the smokers in my life did not like me giving it up and they were determined they were not going to be the last smokers left! I really felt I had to give up, not just for myself, but for my children as I did not like the idea of them thinking of me as a smoker. The resolve to give up was brought home to me when my older two children, 5 and 6 grabbed my lighter and set fire to some dry grass up the road. Fire engines roared in and I was absolutely flabberghasted.

But do remember what Mayflowers said, and that is to be kind to yourself, and do not try to do too much at once. You could end up feeling like you are a failure at everything, but you are not. I gave myself a bit of leniency when I first went gluten free, and only concentrated on that, but now a year down, I am tackling the weight, maybe no successfully, but I feel I have gluten free sorted and ready for my next challenge.

Take care.

cybermommy Newbie

Hi Ladies,

Your support & encouragment means so much to me! I look forward to checking in every night. :)

Diane,

Thanks for the oat info. I probably will steer clear for now. My system is still pretty sensitive & I am feeling sooooooo much better since I cut it & questionable label items out. But I may try it down the road when everything is more stable. :D I know when my son's food allergies were out of control he reacted to other things, that he was not truly allergic to & later could add them back to his diet.

Kat,

Good luck honey! You are braver than I am. I am a non-smoker (astma+smoke=catastrophe). I can't imagine having to deal w/ an addiction like smoking at same time as trying to deal w/ weight & adjusting to gluten-free diet!!! I think it is wonderfull, just don't get discouraged. Don't disappear on us if you "fall off the wagon". Just forgive yourself & start again. You CAN do it!

Liz,

Sorry to hear about your daughter's injury. I used to play basketball (had full B-ball scholarship to college). It is hard to miss out on a game or two, but taking care of her back is essential.

Today I had:

Isalean Shake

Dinner: Chick-fil-a charbroiled chicken salad

Isalean Shake

Snack: Trix cereal

I will be keeping each of you ladies in my prayers.

Goodnight & God bless,

Deb

Good morning everyone :D

Liz--I did the same thing! Last night, my husband and I had to run an errend. I finally got home (we ran into a friend that we hadn't seen in a while, so we stood and talked), came on quick, and posted here. About 1/2 way through, I hit the "backspace", and lost the whole thing  I gave up and got ready for bed....

Shirley, I am so glad you don't have a problem with your gall bladder! Great news. Sorry you are not a candidate for the breath test  .

Kat--It is nice to "see" you! Very nice picture B) Diana has a good point--be gentle with yourself, one step at a time :)

Hi Deb! Welcome :D

I'm doing ok, diet wise. Made bread on Monday--I just love it when it's fresh :P But toast and a sandwich on the same day isn't a real good idea. (yesterday)

Today, I kept to one slice with almond butter and a banana. So far, so good.

Hi Ladies,

I cracked and stepped on the scale this morning to check progress. :D Not bad, not bad at all. The scale is back to pre-muffin weight and usually by this day of the week, my weight is creeping upward! So this means not eating chicken and turkey was a good thing. But, I've been eating soy..oh well, one evil at a time. I have to follow my own advice on not stressing out. I even plan on trying McDougall but I wanted to do it gradually so I don't shock my system and get emotionally freaked out. It's happened before..

My next step I think will be dairy. It's the next highest score on my Intolerance-O-Meter.

Deb, yeah, I know how you feel. If you feel better not eating oats, that's the best thing for you

B - cheese/spinach omlette (Soon I'll have to switch to nut butters in the morning as I can't just eat cereal because I get dizzy/spacey without some protein)

L - salad

D - stir fry vegies and salad and oat bran muffin.

no snacking.

Diana--Pre-muffin weight!! Yea :D

Kat--That pound, even if it is water, just take it  And, you're not a dork! ;)

Update from this morning....I weighed myself before getting into the shower, and somehow that pound I gained is gone! I was fully expecting to see it heading up  This must have something to do with hormones.

After my hysterectomy at the beginning of January, I lost exactly 10 pounds, and that's where I still stand today. Although I would love to lose 10 more, I'm thrilled that I seem to be able to maintain this weight without a lot of effort

Lunch today--Large salad, slice of leftover meatloaf, chocolate pudding w/walnuts.

Haven't decided about dinner yet, too full right now :D

Hello everyone, I spent the day in Trail today. We had the van serviced, and it was a good excuse to spend that gift certificate that our youngest daughter gave me for Christmas. So I'm a proud owner of two new pair of jeans and two cute blouses that will look perfect in the dog show ring. Maybe if I dress up, Sheba will think she is with another handler and behave herself  Dream on huh?

We also met two other Celiacs in Trail. One couple from Fruitvale and one that lives in Trail. We try to get together every time we are down there for coffee. It's fun as we have so many other things in common too.

Wow, Kat, Diana and Patti, you are doing great! And Kat, you are certainly not a Dork ... that is very funny though

I've lost posts before as well, then it's so hard to remember what I've written ... must be an age thing  I also wrote a post one time and clicked 'add reply' at the exact same time that someone merged two threads together and the post I just wrote disappeared. Guess it didn't know where to go.

Liz ... you really have to get up to date with America's Next Top Model! They have two 'plus size' models in there this time!!!! Yeah, they are finally starting to smarten up. That's because somewhere over in Europe the refused to let the under weight ones on the runway . See. you are not very far from them now :P And you will be all nice and toned ... hmmm, are you adding a tan too?

Hi Kathy, Autumn and Deb. !! Hope you are having a super day :D

Another town day with strange eating habits.

B- gluten-free cereal and an orange

L- skipped

S- coffee and I had four small squares of dark chocolate with almonds .. just to give my stomach acid something to work on while we were driving home.

D- Salad with a piece of cheese and 1/3 English muffing with low fat cheese spread. A small banana with 1/2 cup tiger stripe ice cream

S- will be popcorn and glass of wine

Not a very healthy diet for sure, will have to smarten up tomorrow. I have quilters coming over in the morning, and a meeting in Castlegar in the evening. Another day of running around. Need to stay home and get a proper schedule ;)

Enjoy your evening all!

Hi everyone! I just got back from another good workout. I love the machines at that place. They tell you exactly how many calories you're burning based on your weight and age. I burned 211 calories just on the eliptical thingy (kind of like cross country skiing). But now I need a shower before bed.

My daughter is so excited - the chiropractor told her that he wouldn't recommend it, but that she could play basketball tomorrow and that it wouldn't do any damage to her. So I guess I'll let her play a little bit - certainly not as much as normal or as much as she'd like. So we might have a chance at that first place team.

Anyway, busy day today - taught my normal 8 PE classes, short basketball practice after school, an hour at the chiropractor, made dinner and then went to the community center with hubby and the boys (they swam while I worked out). And now I'm going to watch American Idol.

B - apple and 2 Tbs almond butter

L - 1 oz raw goat cheese, 1/2 rice tortilla, apple, carrot sticks

D - chicken fajitas (chicken, onion, red and yellow peppers), salsa, 1 rice tortilla, spanish rice (2 servings  )

S - fresh pineapple (tastes great after a workout!)

Ladies, you always lift my spirits when I read your posts.

Most of my day was good, but hectic. It was a day of appts & errands in Ft.Worth (next county). I ate out & didn't get glutened. Yay! :D

Isalean Shake

Lunch: Chipotle Burrito Bol (chicken)

Snack: Spring mix salad w/ touch of honey-mustard, 2 wedges Laughing Cow light cheese

Isalean Shake

I will probably have some Trix w/ my medicine before bed.

Thanks again for your uplifting spirits. I found out this evening that my grandma's kidneys are failing & they are sending her home on hospice care. I know she is 90 but in our family it is normal to live to 99-118. I've been teary this evening & reading your light banter about disappearing post (yes, it has happened to me too) & being a dork, brought a smile to my face. There are no dorks here, just very sweet ladies. ;)

Shirley, you quilt? Cool! I love to quilt, but havn't done it for a while. I am also into spinning yarn & knitting. I am about to start raising silk moths (commonly called silk worms). I have learned how to do reeled silk & can use the slubs (low quality) for spinning.

Good night & God Bless,

Deb

This is a retraction: Note that Daina, in this case, should have been Liz.

I was wondering what the heck you were talking about..but I just let it go...

Deb - you eat Trix? The cereal as in "Silly rabbit....?? Some people here freak about eating any cereal because of cross contamination... just to let you know.

I'm looking forward to my weigh in on Sunday. I hope I lost!! Feeling bloated today a little. Story of a peri menopausal woman's life I guess...

B - 3 hard boiled eggs

L - Salad

D - something vegie From my vegetarian cook books... If I were a chef, my specialty would be

vegetarian.

Another crazy 'food' day around here. My quilters just left, and because it's really too late for a proper lunch I just had an orange and a strawberry cheesecake cup ... actually it's only half a cup.

Not overly healthy, but will have to grab a bite early for dinner too as I have to leave here at dinner time to pick up two ladies for the meeting in Castlegar this evening.

Will likely only have a low fat peanut butter and banana sandwich. Hubby can make his own this evening. Come to think of it, I have a salad made, so can grab some of that with the sandwich and at least make it a bit healthier

B- was easy, just gluten-free cereal in skim milk. That really doesn't seem to add up to enough calories, but I'll be home for a few days after today, so can get back to proper meals. Serves me right for living so far out of town.

Deb, I love to quilt! Just wish I had more time with it. It's great that these ladies come once a week, because then I take the time. It also forces me to "panic" clean my house too

Good for you working on spinning! We have a threads guild about a 1/2 mile down the road where ladies go to weave and spin. I go and check it out anytime they have an open house, or craft sale. It's fun to see the wonderful talents of so many people. My hubby can't understand why I love going to all these things because we can't buy any of it (not in the budget), but I just love to see the beautiful things they make. I keep telling him that I don't need to own these things (some I really don't want as I hate dusting  ), but it's still great to see peoples imaginations at work!

I think he's too practicle

Have a super day ladies! I'll catch you again tomorrow!

Cathy- Thanks Im much better :) My daughter didnt get dermatitis herpetiformis Yeah! but she did get a little butt rash. She wasnt itching it so Im glad it wasnt that uncomfortable. I get brain fog, diarrhea, super sore stomach, and achey joints, I also get a mild seizure but thankfully no passing out or anything like that I just get a really weird deja vu feeling. My achey joints usually lasts about 2 to 3 days. I also get depressed and cranky too. Good job on the walk early in the morning. Im lacking in the exercise department and need to get my butt moving.

Shirley- Yeah Im glad its not your gallbladder it changes your diet for life unfortunately. I wonder what it is. I hope its easy to treat. I hate the panic clean but it does make hubby happy :) I love craft shows too. I rarely buy since we are so tight but I love getting all the baby doll things for my daughter and jewelry for her. She loves her jewelry and she wants to wear it everyday. Im always dipping into crafts, myself I love doing a variety of things. Lately its been knitting and decorating cakes. Im hoping to start a little business on the side decorating and making gluten free cakes and also for allergy problems. I just need to get a photo book together and get a license and a few cards to put up at the health food stores.

Deb- Thanks :) Cheetos are not good anymore, we are done with them. That's wonderful you have made such accomplishments :) I have joint aches really badly when glutened I just figured it was "normal" for me. Thanks for the prayers :) I'll add you to mine also. Im sorry about your grandma, I lost my last grandparent in december. I feel fortunate she lived with my parents for awhile before she died. I was able to spend quite a bit of time with her.

Liz-I have done that a few times before myself, anymore I pull up notepad and copy it on there so it doesnt get lost since I have a copy. Im sorry your daughter is still having problems I hope she feels well soon.Im glad your having fun at the community center. I wish we had one near here but the closest is a 1/2 hour away in a yucky area. Its in a big city near us.

Patti- I love making homemade bread, I made some for Ashley and Mike yesterday, it smelled good  I so wish I could eat it but I know I would be coughing with the yeast in it.

Diana-With the droppers I heard the tincture is more effective, but with me I couldnt stomach the taste that way. I'll check on a substitute for dong quai since its main issue is to bring up estrogen. With vitex alone it would kill libido since it was given to monk's for celibacy. My daughter was underweight for a while, I figured it was because she is a pretty healthy little eater and her dad and myself were very skinny growing up. I put her on almond butter to give her a little weight gain and it worked. Congrats on the weight loss :)

Kat- Im a nonsmoker, I have had asthma since I was six months old so I never tried it. I have no experience at quitting but my dad quit his decision was made because of me though. I would hav breathing problems as a baby due to smelling it on his clothes. He never smoked inside but just the leftover scent of it was too much for me. Definitely take it easy on yourself with regards to diet. Maybe fresh vegetables to munch on and sugar free gum might help to keep your mind on other things or maybe keeping your hands busy as shirley mentioned? I'll have to take a peek at your photo :) I need to put one on here of me also. Although first I have to find one, Im usually the photographer. Dont worry about judgements here, I believe everybody has a vice one way or another. Mine was cleaning, seriously I would miss out on sleep if things needed to be picked up. I am much better since I had Ashley because well frankly I had too ;) Especially as a toddler I just try to pick up at bedtime seriously :D

Im not sure how much I am going to be on till monday. Tomorrow I have to buy the cake mix bake the cake, decorate it into a clown for my daughter (probably take 2 hours just to decorate), head out to lansing to pick up kinnikinnick hot dog buns to make garlic bread out of (an hour drive one way) Go to the grocery store and pick up the last minute things for the lasagna, Pick up balloons and streamers, Head to the bank and cash a few checks, go to the post office and send off a few bills, and get all the stuff together to take to the church for her party on saturday. Then on Sunday I know we will head out to my mom and dad's, well at least Mike will. He has to set up my mom and dad's cable modem and some other stuff. I will have to wait and see if Ashley wants to go after she gets her birthday gift from her grandma ;) Its a big kitchen will all the stuff inside. I bought a battery charger and 16 rechargeable batteries. It takes 16 AA batteries and 2 AAA batteries to run all the stuff.

I also need to find room for it. We dont have a basement and our house is overstuffed as it is with toys. I plan on taking alot of her little stuff she doesnt play with anymore to my mom and dad's. I also had my permanent crown done yesterday, it still is bothering me today  I hope there isnt issues with it. I will give it a bit more time though since Im stuffed up and it could be from that. Im also looking into laser surgery for my rosacea on my face. Im going to see if insurance will pay for it. Otherwise Im going to have to put it off since its about $2000 and we are working on paying down debt not helping it go back up. This year Mike is going to see some layoffs also so money will be tight. We already know of one in april for a week and one in May. He also is getting shorted a few hours at work so we have to tighten the budget quite a bit.

Have a good weekend everybody :)

Food today was

Breakfast- leftover pork chops with carrots and applesauce

Lunch- chicken lettuce wraps and pears

Dinner- chicken, sweet potato, and nectarines

Geez my posts are always too huge! I hope you all dont skip over them, I talk way too much LOL!

Diane, Yep I eat Trix & a few other gluten free cereals that can be bought at regular stores. $2 for big box of Trix vs $5+ for small box of honey rice Puffins. I called General Mills & made some specific inquiries about their processing to see if it was actually safe. The lady was very concerned & would put me on hold occasionally while she checked to be certain of answer. In the end I was satisfied that it was safe to eat. :)

Kat, Sorry you ran into a snag. Just take it a little at a time & you will succeed.

Shirley, To bad you're so far away. You & I would have a blast together. B)

Autumn, I'm glad your daughter didn't get DH, that would have been awful for her birthday. :o

My grandmother went to be with God tonight. I just got back from her house w/ all of my family that live locally. It is 2:25 a.m. here & I am to tired to even make my shake. Thanks again for all of your support. I will try to keep up the posts (it helps a lot) but, don't be surprised if I miss a day or 2. It will be hectic for a while. Funeral is Monday. My daughter is flying in from Kentucky & my cousin is coming from Taiwan. We will be doing the airport shuffle. Since I live in a rural area, it is a 2+ hr drive to airport. I am in Texas btw (havn't figured out how to put my info down at bottom yet).

Today I ate:

Shake

Snack: Trix

Dinner: tuna salad & spring mix salad

Snack: Gotta have something with my antibiotic- maybe Welch's Fruit Snack  ....uh no I think I will have tapioca or rice pudding (premade) Will have to check calories.

Goodnight & God bless,

Deb

Mayflowers Contributor

Deb,

My condolences on your grandmother. :( I was wondering about some of the cereals. Some people on this forum won't eat anything that's made in the same factory as wheat for fear of cross contamination. Some of the boxes say "May contain traces of wheat" on them. Like I always say, if it doesn't bother you then go for it!

B - Low carb shake with hood chocolate and some brewer's yeast.

S - hb eggs (yeah, yeah, "that is a problem and we're working on it")

L - salad

D -Vegies, beans, oat bran muffins...

Autumn, I tried the Vitex and my joints flared up...I guess I can't tolerate that either.. (why do I even bother anymore?)

Till Sunday, I was thinking of going McDougall and see if it makes a difference..It's a tough plan..

very strict.

Tonight is Ghost Whisperer! One of my favorite shows!

I'm psychic Kat. :) and a mental medium. You need to get off the cancer sticks first. You're so right. You'll feel so much better, and when you feel the tightness, just go for a jog, or if you can't because of the weather, use Leslie Sansone's Walk Away the Pounds series, or any work out tape that makes you breathe hard. It will make it so much easier, then you're mind will come to use exercise instead of food as a substitute and you won't gain weight. I didn't gain weight when I quit and I was 31.

Hi Everyone!

I'm at work, so this will be short.

Deb - so sorry to hear about your grandmother. My condolences to you and your family.

Kat - I hope you stick around and don't disappear. Maybe we can be the weight loss and smoking-craving loss thread!

Autumn - glad to hear that you're better.

Everyone else - I'm happy to see everyone sticking with the thread!

I had another good day yesterday, but can't remember what I ate now. I didn't cheat :) . My girls won their basketball game, my daughter felt well enough to play and we're in a 3-way tie for first place. The next two weeks will be really exciting around here! We have two games left, against the other two first place teams and then a little tournament. It's March madness here at our middle school!

Today:

B - 2 pieces of turkey bacon, apple

L - deli turkey on 1/2 rice tortilla with lettuce, 1/2 red bell pepper, apple

S - will be a small handful of almonds in a few minutes

D - will be chicken and vegetable soup

Tomorrow is my "free" day - I'll eat a small breakfast and lunch and then whatever I want for dinner and dessert. I just can't decide what to make yet.

Have a good weekend everyone!

I disagree. Smoking for me was hard, and I had lots of practise, but the hardest thing for me physically was giving up coffee a few years back after a 15 cup a day habit. It made me shakey cranky and my head hurt. The smokes made me cranky and shakey, but it did not give me a head ache. I have to laugh now, as at the time we were cutting back on spendage and I decided to give up coffee, instead of cigarettes! I do drink coffee now, but nowhere near 15 cups, be lucky if it is 3 cups, but I am in the process of giving it up now and my head doesn't hurt either, so it will be easy. I had a couple of good days, without chocolate and just a cup of coffee a day, but as you see later, that all went to custard.

Autumn, praising me for the walk I thank you, but it is a bit misplaced as yesterday I slept in and I had Maureen out in the dark waiting for me to show my face, as I didn't! Feel guilty about that.

Was a bad day yesterday. I overdosed on carbs, 2 toast for breakfast, rice and curry for lunch, two more toast and scrambled egg for tea with a muffin and icecream, and a few servings of fruit. I was only yesterday morning complaining that I was tending to become a bit constipated. I don't know what straw broke the camels back, it could've been the one coffee I had because as soon as I had had my lonely coffee (trying to give that up too) I had bloated tummy pains, but I perservered and ate my tea, but they remained. At 12am it was me getting up and to the loo with horrible tummy pains and the big D. It is a bit reminiscent of days gone by. I'm not sure if it is gluten, or too many carbs or the coffee. This sort of behaviour usually happens when I overeat, so it could be the carbs. I would call it my party food tummy, or going out tummy, it ususlly occurs on special occassions, even on my wedding night nearly two years ago. What happens to everyone else if they eat too many carbs? Thankfully this morning I am fine a bit drained and don't feel as if I have been glutened.

I'm giving up chocolate, but then you probably all are saying I should've given it up if I am dieting. Point well taken. But easter is so yummy. They bring out the easter eggs a good two months before easter, let alone bringing out the hot cross buns in January. Do they do that in America? What is the point of selling them so early. It means somebody must be buying and eating them. But it won't be me now.

All have a good weekend

Cathy

Hello, @asaT, I'm curious to know whether you are taking other B vitamins like Thiamine B1 and Niacin B3.  Malabsorption in Celiac disease affects all the water soluble B vitamins and Vitamin C.  Thiamine and Niacin are required to produce energy for all the homocysteine lowering reactions provided by Folate, Cobalamine and Pyridoxine.   Weight gain with a voracious appetite is something I experienced while malnourished.  It's symptomatic of Thiamine B1 deficiency.   Conversely, some people with thiamine deficiency lose their appetite altogether, and suffer from anorexia.  At different periods on my lifelong journey, I suffered this, too.   When the body doesn't have sufficient thiamine to turn food, especially carbohydrates, into energy (for growth and repair), the body rations what little thiamine it has available, and turns the carbs into fat, and stores it mostly in the abdomen.  Consuming a high carbohydrate diet requires additional thiamine to process the carbs into energy.  Simple carbohydrates (sugar, white rice, etc.) don't contain thiamine, so the body easily depletes its stores of Thiamine processing the carbs into fat.  The digestive system communicates with the brain to keep eating in order to consume more thiamine and other nutrients it's not absorbing.   One can have a subclinical thiamine insufficiency for years.  A twenty percent increase in dietary thiamine causes an eighty percent increase in brain function, so the symptoms can wax and wane mysteriously.  Symptoms of Thiamine insufficiency include stunted growth, chronic fatigue, and Gastrointestinal Beriberi (diarrhea, abdominal pain), heart attack, Alzheimer's, stroke, and cancer.   Thiamine improves bone turnover.  Thiamine insufficiency can also affect the thyroid.  The thyroid is important in bone metabolism.  The thyroid also influences hormones, like estrogen and progesterone, and menopause.  Vitamin D, at optimal levels, can act as a hormone and can influence the thyroid, as well as being important to bone health, and regulating the immune system.  Vitamin A is important to bone health, too, and is necessary for intestinal health, as well.   I don't do dairy because I react to Casein, the protein in dairy that resembles gluten and causes a reaction the same as if I'd been exposed to gluten, including high tTg IgA.  I found adding mineral water containing calcium and other minerals helpful in increasing my calcium intake.   Malabsorption of Celiac affects all the vitamins and minerals.  I do hope you'll talk to your doctor and dietician about supplementing all eight B vitamins and the four fat soluble vitamins because they all work together interconnectedly.

Hi Jane: You may want to try the D3 I now take. I have reactions to fillers and many additives. Sports Research, it is based in the USA and I have had no bad reactions with this brand. The D3 does have coconut oil but it is non GMO, it is Gluten free, Soy free, Soybean free and Safflower oil free.  I have a cupboard full of supplements that did not agree with me -  I just keep trying and have finally settled on Sports Research. I take NAKA Women's Multi full spectrum, and have not felt sick after taking 2 capsules per day -  it is a Canadian company. I buy both from Amazon. I wish you well in your searching, I know how discouraging it all is. Florence.

highly unlikely  NOTHING and I mean NOTHING else has ever caused me these kinds of symptoms I have no problem with dates, they are a large part of my diet In fact, I eat a very high fiber, very high vegetable and bean diet and have for many years now. It's considered a whole foods plant based or plant forward diet (I do now eat some lean ground turkey but not much) I was off dairy for years but recently had to add back plain yogurt to meet calcium needs that I am not allowed to get from supplements (I have not had any problem with the yogurt)   I eat almost no processed foods. I don't eat out. almost everything I eat, I cook myself I am going to keep a food diary but to be honest, I already know that it's wheat products and also barley that are the problem, which is why I gradually stopped eating and buying them. When I was eating them, like back in early 2024, when I was in the middle of moving and ate out (always had bread or toast or rolls or a sub or pizza) I felt terrible but at that time was so busy and exhausted that I never stopped to think it was the food. Once I was in my new place, I continued to have bread from time to time and had such horrible joint pain that I was preparing for 2 total knee replacements as well as one hip! The surgery could not go forward as I was (and still am) actively losing calcium from my bones. That problem has yet to be properly diagnosed and treated   anyway over time I realized that I felt better when I stopped eating bread. Back at least 3 yrs ago I noticed that regular pasta made me sick so I switched to brown rice pasta and even though it costs a lot more, I really like it.   so gradually I just stopped buying and eating foods with gluten. I stopped getting raisin bran when I was constipated because it made me bloated and it didn't help the constipation any more (used to be a sure bet that it would in the past)   I made cookies and brownies using beans and rolled oats and dates and tahini and I LOVE them and have zero issues eating those I eat 1 or more cans of beans per day easily can eat a pound of broccoli - no problem! Brussels sprouts the same thing.   so yeh it's bread and related foods that are clearly the problem  there is zero doubt in my mind

Thank you for your post, @nanny marley It is interesting what you say about 'It's OK not to sleep'. Worrying about sleeping only makes it much harder to sleep.  One of my relatives is an insomniac and I am sure that is part of the problem.  Whereas I once had a neighbour who, if she couldn't sleep, would simply get up again, make a cup of tea, read, do a sudoku or some other small task, and then go back to bed when she felt sleepy again.  I can't think it did her any harm - she lived  well into her nineties. Last week I decided to try a Floradix Magnesium supplement which seems to be helping me to sleep better.  It is a liquid magnesium supplement, so easy to take.  It is gluten free (unlike the Floradix iron supplement).  Might be worth a try.

It could be a fructan intolerance? How do you do with dates?  https://www.dietvsdisease.org/sorry-your-gluten-sensitivity-is-actually-a-fructan-intolerance/
