Moving.... Frustrations.

We've decided to move. Not far, most likely to an apartment like 3 miles away (same complex as a good friend!). We both hate moving. But our roof leaking is the straw that broke the camel's back. our 2nd bedroom (the one with our books and both guinea piggies) has a spot starting on the celieng. It's growing, obviously the roof is leaking. The landlord hasn't been by yet! We keep calling, she keeps postponing. This in addition to the stairs rotting away (hello saftey hazard!) we told them about over a MONTH ago. Last summer our oven stopped working and it took 6 weeks to get it replaced (they couldn't fix it I guess)!! What are we paying the landlord for if not to fix broken things?? Our neighbors moved out cause their bathroom plumbing went and it was over a month before anyone came out! Wtf!? And they just raised the rent.

So if we move to this other place (still gotta tour and do paperwork), we'll have a MUCH bigger apt (including a bigger kitchen, yay!), heating that works (the baseboard heaters here are ancient and they don't seem to be effective, we cook for heat!), and we can get our OWN washer and dryer (we have a teeny one in here, around 1/2 normal size that works for crap). We're excited.

Unfortunately, I'll be doing most of the moving. Ugh.

Wish us luck??

Hi Adelle,

Definately--the best of luck to you!

It sounds like this move will be a good one for you--worth the packing and all the rest of it. The new place sounds very nice--hope it all goes smoothly :)

I can so relate! I hoped when I moved the last time (about 2 yrs ago) that would be it for a while. But since then, I've had days with no heat, to which my landlord basically says I'm crazy, but then there are days it goes on and it's in the 80's and I have to open a window! Then I had some crazy girl move in upstairs who, I swear, moves furniture around at 2 am every night. Then she threw a cigarette in the trash and started a fire and my apartment got flooded due when they put it out. They did a crappy job replacing the ceiling and never even let the walls dry. So it smells like mold in some of my cabinets, and the moisture has attracted roaches!! They wouldn't let me out of my lease early, and I've tried numerous times to contact the state housing authority, who don't seem to care either. So I'm stuck there until September. I DO NOT WANT TO MOVE! But obviously I have to.

I feel your pain!!!!!!!!!! :)

I know in WA state, that there is tennant land lord laws that protect you from such things. You can actually refuse to pay your rent if it is uninhabitable. Check into something like that.

laurie, you took the words right out of my mouth....or would it be fingers since I'm typing....there are organizations out there to help protect tenants. you may be able to get some of your rent $$ back, if not more.....also the local better business bureau or chamber of commerce may be able to help you make some headway if it's an apartment complex. actually i'd try it even if it's a private landlord. they could at least steer you in the right direction.

we are moving in a month or so....it's something i hate to do....really dislike.....but this time it's into our first home (yikes! we'll actually own it!) and i'm hoping that will make the move easier.

my best moving advice is label all of your boxes and fragile items.

i think i figured it out last time i moved (november 06) and i've moved something like 8 times in 13 years! ugh! i feel your pain.

We moved last Sept 2005, from an apartment complex....I never wanted to move until we bought a house. We had to move due to spending the summer with no Central Air. We lived on the 3rd floor (top floor) We would come home from 2nd shift at midnight and our thermostat would read 87-89. Our electric bill (all electric apt) was over $200, rent was 740. My electric stove smoked black smoke when the burners were turned on...yet there was nothing spilled on the burners.

The summer of 2005 was very hot! We suffered all damn summer! The complex would not fix the Central Air, they said it worked fine, it was us. They had a contractor come in and he even said it was not working. They would not fix it. We toured this complex where we live now. We moved in Sept of 05.

I love it where I am now, even though it sucked to move, and our rent is more and we live farther from work it was worth it. We have gas heat here, so our bills vary. Gas and Electric together only get to about 110. My new stove, even though it is much older than the one we had works great. My apartment here came with a balcony and it feels more homey. Whenever something breaks it is fixed ASAP too.

We are looking to maybe move, there is a townhouse for rent for just a few more dollars than what we pay in rent and it comes with a garage, driveway, and fenced yard. So we might go for that. Other than that we love it here.

Moving is frustrating but sometimes it is for the best, good luck.

I feel much better about moving now. We found a place, and we have plenty of help moving. Yay! That makes it much less stressful. $40 more/mo for 128 sq feet, heat, decent landlords, and much more! Everything is going well. But packing will be sooooo un-fun.

Some moron moved in next door. He watches porn all day. Eeewww. Only a week and a half to move! Some people don't know the value of a good neighbor.

My neighbors that moved out in Nov. They used to fight with each other all the time, throwing glasses/vases at each other. It was horrible. He would play computer games in surround sound and it was loud. They used to complain about parking (rule is one car in front one in the overflow which is along the house) but they would hog up two spots. Everytime we came home, they would knock on our door and want us to do stuff. I never felt like I had privacy.

I am glad you found a place and are happy. It will be worth all the moving in the end. Good Luck.

Welcome to the celiac.com community, @Churro! Several things need to be said here: 1. Your physician neglected to order a "total IGA" test to check for IGA deficiency. If a person is IGA deficient, the results of other IGA antibody tests specific to celiac disease will not be valid. A total IGA test should always be ordered when checking for celiac disease with blood IGA antibody test. You should ask your physician to order a total IGA test. 2. Iron deficiency anemia can also give distorted IGA celiac disease blood antibody tests. 3. If you were already on a gluten-free diet or had been restricting gluten consumption for weeks/months prior to the antibody testing blood draw, then the test results would not be valid. Accurate celiac disease blood antibody testing requires you to have been consuming significant amounts of gluten for a significant time period leading up to the blood draw. It takes time for the antibody levels in the blood to build up to detectable levels. 4. Your low iron levels and other symptoms could be due to celiac disease but could also be caused by lots of other medical issues.

Last month I got blood tests done. My iron level was at 205 ug/dL and 141 ug/dL iron binding capacity unsaturated, 346 ug/dl total iron binding capacity, 59 transferrin % saturation. My ferritin level was at 13 so I got tested for celiac disease last week. My tTG-IgA is <.05, DGP IgA is 4.9 and ferritin level is 9. My doctor didn't order other celiac disease tests. In 2021 I was dealing with severe constipation and hemorrhoids. I'm no longer dealing with constipation. I still deal with hemorrhoids but only about once a week. Also, I've been dealing with very pale skin for at least 5 years. Do you think I have celiac disease?

Hi Cristiana! It's so nice to meet you! Thank you for the kind reply I am glad I live in a time where you can connect with others through the Internet. That is a mercy I am grateful for.

In the study linked above, the little girl switched to a gluten free diet and gained enough weight that that fat pad was replenished and surgery was not needed.   Here's the full article link... Hello, @Jordan Carlson, So glad you're feeling better.   Tecta is a proton pump inhibitor.  PPI's also interfere with the production of the intrinsic factor needed to absorb Vitamin B12.  Increasing the amount of B12 you supplement has helped overcome the lack of intrinsic factor needed to absorb B12. Proton pump inhibitors also reduce the production of digestive juices (stomach acids).  This results in foods not being digested thoroughly.  If foods are not digested sufficiently, the vitamins and other nutrients aren't released from the food, and the body cannot absorb them.  This sets up a vicious cycle. Acid reflux and Gerd are actually symptoms of producing too little stomach acid.  Insufficient stomach acid production is seen with Thiamine and Niacin deficiencies.  PPI's like Tecta also block the transporters that pull Thiamine into cells, preventing absorption of thiamine.  Other symptoms of Thiamine deficiency are difficulty swallowing, gagging, problems with food texture, dysphagia. Other symptoms of Thiamine deficiency are symptoms of ADHD and anxiety.  Vyvanse also blocks thiamine transporters contributing further to Thiamine deficiency.  Pristiq has been shown to work better if thiamine is supplemented at the same time because thiamine is needed to make serotonin.  Doctors don't recognize anxiety and depression and adult onset ADHD as early symptoms of Thiamine deficiency. Stomach acid is needed to digest Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) in fruits and vegetables.  Ascorbic acid left undigested can cause intestinal upsets, anxiety, and heart palpitations.   Yes, a child can be born with nutritional deficiencies if the parents were deficient.  Parents who are thiamine deficient have offspring with fewer thiamine transporters on cell surfaces, making thiamine deficiency easier to develop in the children.  A person can struggle along for years with subclinical vitamin deficiencies.  Been here, done this.  Please consider supplementing with Thiamine in the form TTFD (tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide) which helps immensely with dysphagia and neurological symptoms like anxiety, depression, and ADHD symptoms.  Benfotiamine helps with improving intestinal health.  A B Complex and NeuroMag (a magnesium supplement), and Vitamin D are needed also.
