Brandon.

that was disappointing, sanjaya really needs to go home, i think so many forget its a singing competition not a show to vote for who we think is cute pr pretty. Id rather have an guy that forgot a few words then a kid who does not have a good voice at all.

paula

Whew... I'm glad it wasn't somebody good that was voted off. I was worried maybe Haley went last night. I can't believe my stupid DVR didn't record it.

Jo.R Contributor
The best way to watch Idol these days is to record it and then fast forward through most of it LOL. All the guys (except maybe Blake) should go home.

I wish I could do that, but since my husband had to be in bed by 7:00pm he records his favorite show. I just play a game on the computer while its on. If I had to just sit and watch the show, I'd quit. This is the worst year.

blueeyedmanda Community Regular

This is actually my first year watching, everyone in my office but me had been watching it and they loved it. I thought I would see what the hype was about....guess I picked the wrong year. I am glad Phil got to sit back down! He does have talent. He just isn't a Diana Ross singer, not many people can pull her off. You have to have a great voice and a lot of talent to do that.

Guhlia Rising Star

Yeah, Amanda, this is definitely the worst year in Idol history. Although, the first year was pretty weak too. I think once we get to the top 5 things will be up to par a bit more. Imagine a stage full of Blakes, Ginas, LaKishas, and Melindas. That's what the other years have been like. There's usually one bad one and then the rest are somewhere between great and amazing. This year's pretty interesting though since there are so many bad ones. I hope Blake continues to do well. It would really be a shame if he got voted off. I find myself watching the show eagerly until his performance and then I'm usually bored after that. Though, I have to admit, Melinda is absolutely amazing.

Really, what is so special about Melinda? She's not that great at all. Her voice is not original in the least. Does anyone listen to the sound of a voice these days? So she can sing. Her voice is not unique. And I hate the cutesy girl act with the big eyes looking shocked. My children are mocking her dumb look during every show. We like Blake and the Hurley guy- the large guy with curly hair. We call him Hurley from Lost. They're the only two who seem to have an interest in talent over what God gave them. The rest are just decent singers.

I think it's the fact that she actually has stage presence. Most of them this year don't seem to have that quality.

I love American Idol...and I'm from Canada. We have Canadian Idol but it kinda sucks. I have to agree with the person who said they can't stand Melinda's cutsy big eyed astonished look. It bugs me too. I'm very surprised that Brandon got voted off last night...it should have been Sanjaya. It's kinda early to say but I think I might be rooting for Jordan Sparks.

blueeyedmanda Community Regular

John and I are not big Melinda fans, I think it is partially because she gets too much credit sometimes. I think that Lakisha has just as much talent but they seem to fall over Melinda, like when Paula was crying the oter night after she sang...I didn't get that.

That is just our opinions though.

Oh, I have to disagree with the "stage Presence" comment. Being cutesy and shocked and scrunching up your already barely there neck at every compliment is not the presence of a star. I prefer confidence. I'm not saying she can't sing, but her personality bugs me to no end. I like Blake and Chris messing around with their song choices and attempting to be artists... which is what they should be doing. Not simply singing the same old song. That's bold, even when it doesn't quite work.

blueeyedmanda Community Regular

I think Blake's version of Keep Me Hanging on was great! I could see myself singing along to it if it was on the radio. I enjoyed Kim Wylde's version of the song.

Guhlia Rising Star

I like Melinda because she's humble.

Hum..well I don't feel that strongly about it one way or the other LOL, but I meant she has a nice presence when she performs. I do like the fact that she's quiet and humble when she's not singing...but can get out there and have such a powerful presence when she sings.

Then again I think Phil is pretty freaky but a lot of people like him, so who knows...

Ya know... The more I see Phil, the more I think he's kind of freaky. I liked him in the beginning because he looked so cute holding his newborn baby girl, but... there's just something off about him.

HawkFire Explorer

oh, nonononono. I don't think Melinda is humble at all. About as humble as Kelley Pickler was naive and innocent! It's all an act. And a poorly executed act at that. SO over the top with the big surprised eyes and the ... it just makes me sick to think of her. Nevermind. I'm not a fan and never will be. You have to be duped into believing she's for real to like her.

blueeyedmanda Community Regular

Phil does have a different look....I did like his first few songs though, lately he has not been making me jump for joy though. Obviously, looking at Thursday he was down the bottom on votes.

Guhlia Rising Star

Who were the bottom three last week? I didn't realize they were doing that already. I didn't think they did that til the top 10.

This week I think Blake and Melinda were amazing. Haley did really well too, that was a pleasant change. Melinda sang one of my all time favorite songs ever and she nailed it. She had me in tears. Her rendition was so different from any that I've heard before. It just blew me away. Blake, well, do I even need to comment? He's always amazing. And Sanjaya... What got into him?!?!?! He actually didn't horribly suck tonight!

What was with that little girl, Ashley, that was crying all night?

blueeyedmanda Community Regular

I know the little girl crying really bugged me :)

Blake out of this world!!! Melinda was good. Haley, what a change....and Sanjaya, wow it was like a different person all together. Gina really rocked out at Paint it Black.

Now, I did not like Lakisha this week...

John liked Chris Richardson too.

Last week it was Sanjaya, Phil Stacey, and Brandon were the bottom.

Guhlia Rising Star

Who do you think's gonna go? Don thinks Gina will go, we didn't think she was very good tonight. I think she has a big enough fan base to keep her in since she's the only rocker. I think Phil might go. That is, unless America gets with the program and gets rid of Sanjaya. It was really weird though hearing him do so much better. It was like he totally came out of his shell.

blueeyedmanda Community Regular

I am thinking Phil or Stephanie. She did not do good either.

Off topic..John and I are looking at a house in Cornwall!

Cornwall is right up the road from us! How far off 322 is the house?

blueeyedmanda Community Regular

I just sent you the link in a pm. Enjoy! John is excited, it doesn't happen often.

Remember the old clips of the beatles appearing on the Ed Sullivan show and girls in the audience where crying and passing out? I think thats why they had the cameras on that little girl crying. I thought it was so cute. She was just overwhelmed by it all.

I thought Lakisha totally blew it last night. I didn't like her last week either but it was tolerable. I don't think she going to be down to the last 3. Melinda is better and one will edge out the other when it comes down to the end.

I wish Phil would wear hats and he would get edgier. He's got the voice but he's losing the confidence. I'm afraid he'll be at the bottom this week along with Sanjaya and Stehanie. I don't like her anyway. It's like she trying to be Beyonca to me.

I loved Jordin and Blake last night the best. I thought last night was alot of fun. I love the 60's for music. I wish someone would of picked one of Petula Clark's songs. She's the one who sings Downtown. Isn't she the one who sings "The son of a Preacher Man"???? Anyway can't wait to see the results.

@rei.b,  I understand how frustrating starting a new way of eating can be.  I tried all sorts of gluten-free processed foods and just kept feeling worse.  My health didn't improve until I started the low histamine AIP diet.  It makes a big difference.   Gluten fits into opioid receptors in our bodies.  So, removing gluten can cause withdrawal symptoms and reveals the underlying discomfort.  SIBO can cause digestive symptoms.  SIBO can prevent vitamins from being absorbed by the intestines.  Thiamine insufficiency causes Gastrointestinal Beriberi (bloating, abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea or constipation).  Thiamine is the B vitamin that runs out first because it can only be stored for two weeks.  We need more thiamine when we're sick or under emotional stress.  Gastric Beriberi is under recognised by doctors.  An Erythrocyte Transketolace Activity test is more accurate than a blood test for thiamine deficiency, but the best way to see if you're low in thiamine is to take it and look for health improvement.  Don't take Thiamine Mononitrate because the body can't utilize it well.  Try Benfotiamine.  Thiamine is water soluble, nontoxic and safe even at high doses.  I thought it was crazy, too, but simple vitamins and minerals are important.  The eight B vitamins work together, so a B Complex, Benfotiamine,  magnesium and Vitamin D really helped get my body to start healing, along with the AIP diet.  Once you heal, you add foods back in, so the AIP diet is worth doing for a few months. I do hope you'll consider the AIP diet and Benfotiamine.

Imemsm, Most of us have experienced discontinued, not currently available or products that suddenly become seasonal.   My biggest fear about relocating from Maryland to Florida 5 years ago, was being able to find gluten-free foods that fit my restricted diet.  I soon found out that the Win Dixie and Publix supper markets actually has 99% of their gluten-free foods tagged, next to the price.  The gluten-free tags opened up a  lot of foods that aren't actually marked gluten-free by the manufacture.  Now I only need to check for my other dietary restrictions.  Where my son lives in New Hartford, New York there's a Hannaford Supermarket that also has a gluten-free tag next to the price tag.  Hopefully you can locate a Supermarket within a reasonable travel distance that you can learn what foods to check out at a Supermarket close to you.  I have dermatitis herpetiformis too and I'm very sensitive to gluten and the three stores I named were very gluten-free friendly.  Good Luck

Okay well the info about TTG-A actually makes a lot of sense and I wish the PA had explained that to me. But yes, I would assume I would have intestinal damage from eating a lot of gluten for 32 years while having all these symptoms. As far as avoiding gluten foods - I was definitely not doing that. Bread, pasta, quesadillas (with flour tortillas) and crackers are my 4 favorite foods and I ate at least one of those things multiple times a day e.g. breakfast with eggs and toast, a cheese quesadilla for lunch, and pasta for dinner, and crackers and cheese as a before bed snack. I'm not even kidding.  I'm not really big on sugar, so I don't really do sweets. I don't have any of those conditions.  I am not sure if I have the genes or not. When the geneticist did my genetic testing for EDS this year, I didn't think to ask for him to request the celiac genes so they didn't test for them, unfortunately.  I guess another expectation I had is  that if gluten was the issue, the gluten-free diet would make me feel better, and I'm 3 months in and that hasn't been the case. I am being very careful and reading every label because I didn't want to screw this up and have to do gluten-free for longer than necessary if I end up not having celiac. I'm literally checking everything, even tea and anything else prepacked like caramel dip. Honestly its making me anxious 😅

So you're saying that you think you should have severe intestinal damage since you've had the symptoms so long?   DGP IgG antibodies are produced in response to a partial gluten molecule.  This is different than what tissue transglutaminase antibodies are  produced in response to.   TTg IgA antibodies are produced in the intestines in response to gluten.  The tTg IgA antibodies attack our own cells because a structural component in our cell membranes resembles a part of gluten.  There's a correlation between the level of intestinal damage with the level of tTg antibodies produced.  You are not producing a high number of tTg IgA antibodies, so your level of tissue damage in your intestines is not very bad.  Be thankful.   There may be reasons why you are not producing a high quantity of tTg IgA antibodies.  Consuming ten grams or more of gluten a day for two weeks to two months before blood tests are done is required to get sufficient antibody production and damage to the intestines.  Some undiagnosed people tend to subconsciously avoid lots of gluten.  Cookies and cakes do not contain as much gluten as artisan breads and thick chewy pizza crust.  Anemia, diabetes and thiamine deficiency can affect IgA antibody production as well.   Do you carry genes for Celiac?  They frequently go along with EDS.

I was tested for celiac at the same time, so I wasn't taking naltrexone yet. I say that, because I don't. The endoscopy showed some mild inflammation but was inconclusive as to celiac disease. They took several biopsies and that's all that was shown. I was not given a Marsh score.
