Thanks Sandy...if they ever logged on here and read this, theyd kill me, but whatever. u guys obviously love me so right now it dont matter...

heres the basic story:

i havent talked to my best friend since last week. i sent her a txt on thursday sayin where she could find the post about my scope here on the board. yesterday i txted her askin if she said it, she said not yet, and her excuse was she was stayin at her boyfriends cuz of a storm (that i could live with)...

she finally comes online tonite, never asked about how i'm feelin/how my test went/etc AT ALL...jumped straight into braggin about her man, then got mad at me when i said i dont have any input since i havent been in a relationship before and that i'm distracted by calgary, etc...she also accused me of thinkin her news was just a waste of time, and then vanished offline...

I've been on the verge of a panic attack, nearly had 1 tonite, the last thing I needed was my "best friend" makin me feel like i'm completely meaningless :( *cries*

I am guessing your friend is under the age of 20 - she is in an egocentric self centered mode - in her mind - because you were worried about your upcoming scope and didn't have input about "her man"... then you dont care about her.

First off she is the one who is not caring and only wants her needs met right now - never mind that you need her support and are about to go on a long trip, alone, you're scared and a "good day" is hard to find when you have GI troubles.

If she DOES read this - she needs to step back and understand that YOU needed her at that moment , that YOU were reaching out and found empty space.

Perhaps if she has faced a scope before, she would understand your fears.

I can listen very well to my friends talk about relationships, but I tell ya, when I am taking one of my kids to the hospital the next day or adding a new diagnosis to our long list......my best friends offer hugs and support and ask how they can help. they dont get upset cause I didnt want to hear about their latest husband issue or about a cute thing their child did that day.

Sorry your friend bailed when you needed her - maybe she'll be there when you get back...and wanting to hear about you

Actually shes 27, which makes it even more hurtful. u'd think shes gone thru a lot more in those 5 years of life she has on me, and she'd be more mature.

ur right...i needed someone to turn to for a huge thing. friends are supposed to give each other support, especially when they know its somethin u cant get thru on ur own. usually i can live with her talkin about her boyfriend--girl talk, right?. but its not right when u ignore someones needs(like comfort, reassurance, etc) to talk about the usual/daily stuff.

*wishes i could talk to my guy friend*

cyber hugs {{{{{ }}}}}

sorry she wasnt there the way you needed. 27??! wow, and she vanished the minute she wasnt the center of attention, hmmm. This boyfriend must be something else to make her so shortsighted and selfish as to not realize that there are more serious things to discuss than "boys' in life.

Unbelievable!!

I know how much of a wreck I am before any "investigation".... one of the reasons I am awake right now! waiting for blood results on Kathryn....

Are you able to sleep the night before? or is the the fact that you are online speaking for itself? ;)

Sandy

** have they ever tested you for a systemic disease like Lupus or lyme disease or anything else that can cause GI symptoms but be a reuslt of systemic disease?

num1habsfan Rising Star

Thanks *hugs back*

I dunno how some people can be so obsessed with a significant other that they just forget about everyone else who matters just as much or more...

My parents already got up twice to yell at me to get to bed, think i may try in a few mins, but i was worked up enough already so this totally didnt help. i havent been able to sleep barely at all with the eatin all the gluten. its been basically passing out thats done it for me. I'll try sleep now, and try post again before I leave. *more hugs* thanks for lettin me rant and replyin so many times..

Hey Lisa,

I guess you're "under" by now. I hope everything goes/went well.

num1habsfan Rising Star

I hope I'm doing this right :X I'm a friend of Lisa's posting for her because she doesn't have internet at the moment. She just wanted to give everyone a quick update on things.

Lisa said she's trying to drink the nasty salty-tasting laxative stuff, but it's making her sick. She said it makes the sore spot on her tummy burn. She threw up a little while ago and had a nose bleed. She's hoping she is keeping enough of the stuff down to be emptied enough for the test. Keep thinking of her, please!

Rusla Enthusiast

I met up with Lisa and her mother today after Lisa's torture session. She was not in the best of shape and not feeling too punky after a week of gluten and then torture at the hospital. However, now they are on their way back to Saskatchewan if the bus has even left yet. It sounds like they are taking the grand tour back and will be visiting every farm, hamlet and deserted village along the route. They are supposedly arriving in Saskatchewan at 8:30 tomorrow evening.

Hopefully it won't happen like last time. They are hoping to return to Saskatchewan before next Christmas.

Judyin Philly Enthusiast

how sweet of you to meet them Rusla

thanks for the update.

Imemsm, Most of us have experienced discontinued, not currently available or products that suddenly become seasonal.   My biggest fear about relocating from Maryland to Florida 5 years ago, was being able to find gluten-free foods that fit my restricted diet.  I soon found out that the Win Dixie and Publix supper markets actually has 99% of their gluten-free foods tagged, next to the price.  The gluten-free tags opened up a  lot of foods that aren't actually marked gluten-free by the manufacture.  Now I only need to check for my other dietary restrictions.  Where my son lives in New Hartford, New York there's a Hannaford Supermarket that also has a gluten-free tag next to the price tag.  Hopefully you can locate a Supermarket within a reasonable travel distance that you can learn what foods to check out at a Supermarket close to you.  I have dermatitis herpetiformis too and I'm very sensitive to gluten and the three stores I named were very gluten-free friendly.  Good Luck

Okay well the info about TTG-A actually makes a lot of sense and I wish the PA had explained that to me. But yes, I would assume I would have intestinal damage from eating a lot of gluten for 32 years while having all these symptoms. As far as avoiding gluten foods - I was definitely not doing that. Bread, pasta, quesadillas (with flour tortillas) and crackers are my 4 favorite foods and I ate at least one of those things multiple times a day e.g. breakfast with eggs and toast, a cheese quesadilla for lunch, and pasta for dinner, and crackers and cheese as a before bed snack. I'm not even kidding.  I'm not really big on sugar, so I don't really do sweets. I don't have any of those conditions.  I am not sure if I have the genes or not. When the geneticist did my genetic testing for EDS this year, I didn't think to ask for him to request the celiac genes so they didn't test for them, unfortunately.  I guess another expectation I had is  that if gluten was the issue, the gluten-free diet would make me feel better, and I'm 3 months in and that hasn't been the case. I am being very careful and reading every label because I didn't want to screw this up and have to do gluten-free for longer than necessary if I end up not having celiac. I'm literally checking everything, even tea and anything else prepacked like caramel dip. Honestly its making me anxious 😅

So you're saying that you think you should have severe intestinal damage since you've had the symptoms so long?   DGP IgG antibodies are produced in response to a partial gluten molecule.  This is different than what tissue transglutaminase antibodies are  produced in response to.   TTg IgA antibodies are produced in the intestines in response to gluten.  The tTg IgA antibodies attack our own cells because a structural component in our cell membranes resembles a part of gluten.  There's a correlation between the level of intestinal damage with the level of tTg antibodies produced.  You are not producing a high number of tTg IgA antibodies, so your level of tissue damage in your intestines is not very bad.  Be thankful.   There may be reasons why you are not producing a high quantity of tTg IgA antibodies.  Consuming ten grams or more of gluten a day for two weeks to two months before blood tests are done is required to get sufficient antibody production and damage to the intestines.  Some undiagnosed people tend to subconsciously avoid lots of gluten.  Cookies and cakes do not contain as much gluten as artisan breads and thick chewy pizza crust.  Anemia, diabetes and thiamine deficiency can affect IgA antibody production as well.   Do you carry genes for Celiac?  They frequently go along with EDS.

I was tested for celiac at the same time, so I wasn't taking naltrexone yet. I say that, because I don't. The endoscopy showed some mild inflammation but was inconclusive as to celiac disease. They took several biopsies and that's all that was shown. I was not given a Marsh score.
    • knitty kitty
Food and environmental allergies involve IgE antibodies.  IgE antibodies provoke histamine release from mast cells.   Celiac disease is not always visible to the naked eye during endoscopy.  Much of the damage is microscopic and patchy or out of reach of the scope.  Did they take any biopsies of your small intestine for a pathologist to examine?  Were you given a Marsh score? Why do you say you "don't have intestinal damage to correlate with lifelong undiagnosed celiac disease"?   Just curious.
