I've heard alot of good things about Trader Joe's. We are going to take a trip there this weekend. What are your favorite gluten-free products? I'm also dairy free, so no cheeses and such please!

The have a sweet rice flour that makes a really great breading for chicken. Sharon's coconut sorbet is really good. I also like their dolmas, tomato basil hummus..oh, and banana waffles LOL. They have a carribean soup in a jar that's pretty good too.

In the winter they have the world's best dairy-free chocolate truffles. Don't know if they'd be there now though. Hmmm....I haven't been to Trader's in a while. They do keep a gluten-free list on their website.

Exactly the kind of stuff I am looking for, thanks! What are dolmas?

Stuffed grape leaves. Yum.

The chicken taquitos (their brand), and the blueberry ice cream (not their brand. can't remember what it is, but it comes in a purpleish blue container and has a little rainbow on it).

The Veggie and Flaxseed Tortilla Chips and the Pineapple salsa are favorites in my family. We also like the Chicken Taquitos. The praline pecans are a nice treat to have in the cupboard when you want a sweet bite.

Have fun at Trader Joes:)

There's a list of their gluten-free ingredients here:

Their labeling policy is very comprehensive.

I love their peach salsa.

My favorite is the peanut butter, veggie and flax chips, chocolate covered bananas, white chocolate stuffed strawberries yum!, veggie burgers, and proscuitto.

They carry very different things from coast to coast - I can't get most of the stuff that people talk about on here, but what I do like ar the praline pecans (yum!) and the pampadums (some kind of Indian "chip" - read ingredients b/c I think only one flavor is gluten-free) and the cherries (in a jar near the jams - these are yummy on ice cream or waffles!). I don't like their waffles - Van's are much better. They have a decent bagel (in the fresh section at mine, but I froze them when I got home) - not like a regular bagel but much better than glutino or whatever that kind that Whole Foods sells in the freezer. I love their rice pudding, but I think you said dairy free? They also have good chicken sausages in the meat section, and great cheeses (agin, dairy issue).

I loved the papadums, but BEWARE. I won't eat them anymore. When I first tried them they were ok. But after reading that there is wheat in the Masala variety, I realized why I had started reacting to the Yogurt Dill variety, as they are made on the same equipment. I hate it when they do that!

We love the waffles, flaxseed tortilla chips, sweet potato chips, brown rice tortillas, and peanut butter. Recently, my TJs started carrying gluten free pancakes (in freezer section) that DH says are awesome. (I didn't get a chance to taste them, cuz he snarfed them all in 2 days!!)

gfmolly Contributor

Thanks for all the great suggestions! I love salty snacks and I'm looking forward to a bagel that resembles a bagel, not a hockey puck! I can't wait to go! Some of the meat items sound good, too. I am going to spend a fortune!

Has anyone tried Trader Joe's soups in a carton? A friend was kind enough to pick up a few things she thought were gluten free for me when she went down to the nearest Trader Joes yesterday. While there appears to be no gluten in the soups all the labels say they're made on equipment shared with wheat. This makes me extremely uncomfortable. I appreciate her effort if nothing else. Has anyone else has any experience with Trader Joe's soups?

Why oh why do companies go to all the trouble to make allergen free products and then use possibly contaiminated equipment? It makes no sense.

It seems like TJs labels every product with that statement. I eat their stuff with that label, but definitely avoid it if it makes you uncomfortable. What kind of soup is it?

TJ's praline pecans are probably my favorite thing ever. They are so good it's ridiculous. So decadent... soooo yummy!!!

Brown rice penne and they have a basmati and wild rice blend that has dehydrated veggies but no seasoning. I use it in porcupine meatballs and to stuff peppers with or cold with some vinagrette and pecans and chopped apple or dried cranberries for a rice salad.

What are procupine meatballs?

Meatballs with rice instead of breadcrumbs. When the rice cooks it pokes out of the meatballs like the spikes on a porcupine. I'll post the recipie in the cooking section. The TJ's basmati blend adds a little extra flavor.

Thank you so much for this thread. I can't wait to go shopping today!

also we love their brand of rice (garlic) noodle bowls for $.99.

I love their brown rice pasta, banana and regular waffles, hummus, chocolate covered sunflower seeds, and of course the cheap wine ;). I also pick up redbridge there because it is a couple $$ cheaper than at Whole Foods. I just love TJs :)

I love the gluten free bagels and the black licorice that is shaped like Scottie dogs. :D

Gluten free bagels? Our Traders does not have them. What brand and where? My son loves the new gluten free pancakes. They are pretty good!

I take both Benfotiamine and TTFD.   You might want to start with the Benfotiamine for a few days and then add in the TTFD.   You can look for NeuroMag (Magnesium Threonate).  A magnesium glycinate is fine, too.  Doctor's Best is a good brand.  Don't take more than 300mg total per day of magnesium or it may have a laxative effect.   Be sure to take the B Complex.  The Benfotiamine and TTFD will need the other B vitamins.

Life Extension Benfotiamine with Thiamine has 100MG of Ben and 25 of Thia..... Do you think this is the one I should take or Objective Nutrients Thiamax (TTFD) which has 100MG Thiamine. How much magnesium should I look for? I take the womens 50+ multivitamin since consumerlabs stated and tested that it has the right amount of vitamins and not too much for men and doesn't have BHT which has shown to cause liver cancer in animals. I was never big with multivitamins as well as doctors I just read when I was first going gluten free to take a multi but I think I will stop them and work on trying the super B Thia and Ben, Mag.

Hi all I’ve been celiac for 4 years now, I’ve done pretty well to avoid it thus far. Last night I took the wrong pizza out of the freezer and ate the whole lot!! The non gluten and gluten pizza boxes are both very similar.   2 hours later I was throwing up violently on my hands and knees over the loo.  .horrendous stomach pains,  My hair was wet from sweat every part of my body was wet. What an awful experience, just had a bad headache today  fortunately.    Is their any products/pills anyone takes if they have realised they have just been glutened to make the symptoms a little less worse.  thanks
    • knitty kitty
Yes, do take your B Complex with Benfotiamine or Thiamax.  Thiamine interacts with each of the other B vitamins in the B Complex to make energy and enzymes, so best to take them together earlier in your day.  Taking them too close to bedtime can keep you too energetic to go to sleep.   The Life Extension Benfotiamine with Thiamine is Benfotiamine and Thiamine Hydrochloride, another form of thiamine the body likes.  The Thiamine HCl just helps the Benfotiamine work better.   Read the label for how many milligrams are in them.  The Mega Benfotiamine is 250 mgs.  Another Benfothiamine has 100 mgs.  You might want to start with the 100 mg.    I like to take Thiamax in the morning with a B Complex at breakfast.  I take the Benfotiamine with another meal.  You can take your multivitamin with Benfotiamine at lunch.   Add a magnesium supplement, too.  Thiamine needs magnesium to make some important enzymes.  Life Extension makes Neuro-Mag, Magnesium Threonate, which is really beneficial.  (Don't take Magnesium Oxide.  It's not absorbed well, instead it pulls water into the digestive tract and is used to relieve constipation.)  I'm not a big fan of multivitamins because they don't always dissolve well in our intestines, and give people a false sense of security.  (There's videos on how to test how well your multivitamin dissolves.).  Multivitamins don't prevent deficiencies and aren't strong enough to correct deficiencies.   I'm happy you are trying Thiamax and Benfotiamine!  Keep us posted on your progress!  I'm happy to answer any questions you may have.

I looked further into Thiamax Vitamin B1 by objective nutrients and read all the great reviews. I think I will give this a try. I noticed only possible side affect is possibly the first week so body adjusts. Life Extensions carries Benfotiamine with Thiamine and the mega one you mentioned. Not sure if both in one is better or seperate. some reviews state a laxative affect as side affect. SHould I take with my super B complex or just these 2 and multivitamin? I will do further research but I appreciate the wonderful explanation you provided on Thiamine.
