Achey Joints For Days

What do ya'll do for achey joints? I took some tylenol....and i've been in bed but I ever hurt in bed..

Any advice?

PS: I don't think I've been glutened and at first I was worried it was the flu but I've had the pain in the joints for days and not really any other symptoms.

I usually take asprin rather than tylenol because it helps with inflammation. Hot baths also help a great deal and for me cutting out soy made an incredible difference. When my arthritis was still active I used a hot parafin bath for my hands that also helped ease things a great deal and made my hands soft also.

I used to get the aches quite frequently prior to going gluten-free. Now the severity and frequency have lessened considerably. Ibuprofen was the only thing that ever touched the pain, and even then it only lessened it. I used to get up and go for a walk when it got really bad. For some reason the activity helped. But I recall that some research says that acitivty does help some arthritis patients.

Do you eat many sugary foods? If I eat anything with sugar I get achy joints and have a hard time getting out of bed the next day. I've cut out pretty much everything, candy bars, sugared pop etc. That has worked for me.

I had experienced increasing severe aching in joints and muscles since being diagnosed with celiac disease. I hadn't seen a doctor since I was first diagnosed with celiac disease over 11 years ago since at that time they said there wasn't much that could be done. But as things progressed to the absolute worst, I decided to go seek medical help. The doctors I saw a year ago said the pain was a result of "getting old and wearing out." I just refused to believe that 43 y.o. is getting old and wearing out.

After careful diplomatic negotiations with several physicians, one of them finally decided to test my D3 levels. The D3 levels were deficient and I started taking mega doses of Cholecalciferol (D3). After a few months, the pain was greatly reduced. After 6 months, I am virtually pain free. I take 5,000 IU of D3 daily. A very serious side effect of D3 deficiency is osteoporosis (I tested positive for boarderline osteoporosis.) It is the D3 that regulates the absorbtion use of calcium in the body.

You might also consider getting your B12 levels checked. A B12 deficiency can cause permanent nerve damage and pain. I was found to be deficient in B12 as well. Because my GI system will not absorb the B12, I am getting injections twice monthly.

You will have to be persistence with your doctors because most of them don't like to be questioned. They would rather just give you any one of a number of pills and send you on your way. I fear that had I not been persistent I would have been dead or at the least severly diabled. And for no reason, for all of my symptoms were easily treated given the right diagnosis. celiac disease is not laughing matter. I have suffered much in the past 11 years due to physician ignorance and apathy.

Thankfully, I am on the mend and doing so much better.

The D3 is a good topic to bring up. you might try, for now Fanatic, supplementing with cod liver oil. (yes, they sell it in capsules). If you're still at the beginning of this joint pain, then you may be able to rectify the situation naturally, without visiting a doctor. I think everyone should take cod liver oil anyway, but it will give you the vitamin D and it won't be synthetic, which is important. Do you live somewhere you can get out in the sun? Try spending 20 min, then a half hour, then an hour in the sun every day, if you have time. That's the other natural way to get vitamin D. Low vitamin D levels have also been associated with increased cancer risk, so it's a good thing to avoid regardless.

This is kind of funny but would a tanning bed's UV rays give me vit. D or is it only the sun.

That's a good question now that I've thought of it. It doesn't seem like lights could synthesize a vitamin but who knows.

When I started tanning Monday is when this kind of started...

A run of the mill tanning bed would NOT, it's probably taxing your system. It's MUCH better to just get out in the sun, or get some full-spectrum lighting online and install it in the place you sit the most at home.

I get a good amount of sun each day, I am in college and walk between classes, walk my dog, run errands. I'm sure I get about 30 minutes on an average day.

This was largely out of fear of developing skin cancer - 3 generations of women on my mom's side (including mom) had skin cancer. Then I was dx'd as being vitD deficient. The dr put me on 2000IU of vit D daily, along with an rx (no kidding, he actually wrote one out) for 15 minutes of sun a day without sunscreen.

Actually, the ingredients in most sunblock are rather toxic. It's very difficult for your liver to handle. People need sun, there are societies on the planet who live in the sun all day long and don't have any skin cancer, but they don't eat a modern american diet.

August 19 I woke up with BOTH hands, wrists, especially the thumb joints hurting unbelievably bad. I could barely hold a glass. All this cropped up overnight. OK....I'd been doing a bit of cheating with some junk things involving gluten and sugar, not a lot, but a little. I guess it added up finally and BOOM, major joint pain. Although I've had various aches and pains before, I've never had anything like this and it was a real wakeup call for me. I eliminated gluten of course, but also sugar and I went on the Atkins diet because I not only want to lose a bit of weight, but I did it before and felt really good on it. The joint pain started going away pretty fast, and now it's completely gone except for a tiny ache in my right thumb.

Atkins really agrees with me--the total lack of sugar and starches is the key for me as I am 100% certain that they affect me badly. It's not just the gluten!

      Have you tried Pure Encapsulations supplements? This is a brand my doctor recommends for me. I have no issues with this brand.

      plant sources of calcium, such as spinach, have calcium bound to oxalates, which is not good. best source of calcium is unfortunately dairy, do you tolerate dairy? fermented dairy like kefir is good and or a little hard cheese. i do eat dairy, i can only take so much dietary restriction and gluten is hard enough! but i guess some people do have bad reactions to it, so different for everyone.

      i take b12, folate, b2, b6, glycine, Nac, zinc, vk2 mk4, magnesium, coq10, pqq, tmg, creatine, omega 3, molybdnem (sp) and just started vit d. quite a list i know.  I have high homocysteine (last checked it was 19, but is always high and i finally decided to do something about it) and very low vitamin d, 10. have been opposed to this supp in the past, but going to try it at 5k units a day. having a pth test on friday, which is suspect will be high. my homocysteine has come down to around 9 with 3 weeks of these supplements and expect it to go down further. i also started on estrogen/progesterone. I have osteoporosis too, so that is why the hormones.  anyway, i think all celiacs should have homocysteine checked and treated if needed (easy enough with b vit, tmg). homocysteine very bad thing to be high for a whole host of reasons. all the bad ones, heart attack , stroke, alzi, cancer..... one of the most annoying things about celiacs (and there are so many!) is the weight gain. i guess i stayed thin all those years being undiagnosed because i was under absorbing everything including calories. going gluten-free and the weight gain has been terrible, 30#, but i'm sure a lot more went into that (hip replacement - and years of hip pain leading to inactivity when i was previously very active, probably all related to celiacs, menopause) yada yada. i seemed to lose appetite control, like there was low glp, or leptin or whatever all those hormones are that tell you that you are full and to stop eating. my appetite is immense and i'm never full. i guess decades or more ( i think i have had celiacs since at least my teens - was hospitalized for abdominal pain and diarrhea for which spastic colon was eventually diagnosed and had many episodes of diarrhea/abdominal pain through my 20's. but that symptom seemed to go away and i related it to dairy much more so than gluten. Also my growth was stunted, i'm the only shorty in my family. anyway, decades of malabsorption and maldigestion led to constant hunger, at least thats my theory. then when i started absorbing normally, wham!! FAT!!!

      Great advise there I agree with the aniexty part, and the aura migraine has I suffer both, I've also read some great books that have helped I'm going too look the one you mentioned up too thankyou for that, I find a camomile tea just a small one and a gentle wind down before bed has helped me too, I suffer from restless leg syndrome and nerve pain hence I don't always sleep well at the best of times , racing mind catches up I have decorated my whole house in one night in my mind before 🤣 diet changes mindset really help , although I have to say it never just disappears, I find once I came to terms with who I am I managed a lot better  , a misconception is for many to change , that means to heal but that's not always the case , understanding and finding your coping mechanisms are vital tools , it's more productive to find that because there is no failure then no pressure to become something else , it's ok to be sad it's ok to not sleep , it's ok to worry , just try to see it has a journey not a task 🤗

      I agree there I've tryed this myself to prove I can't eat gluten or lactose and it sets me back for about a month till I have to go back to being very strict to settle again
