Is canned sauerkraut gluten free?

The brand that I usually bought is Silver Floss.

I wonder also about canned sauerkraut. I used Safeway Canned sauerkraut and added caraway seeds when cooking it. I had it twice in the last week, and had diarrhea the next day after each.

Has anyone else had the same problem with canned sauerkraut?

Silver Floss is made very near to where I live and is the brand I always buy. I have never had any issues with it. An added benifit is that is has probiotic properties that can be really helpful to those that do not tolerate dairy products.

I haven't had sauerkraut in more years than I can remember. :P I can't eat cruciferous veggies, or I would have it again. I can't even remember the last time I had it, probably over 10 yrs ago!!

Does cooked sauerkraut have probiotics? Or only raw sauerkraut? Raw sauerkraut is easy to make, so maybe you should just make your own to be totally safe. If you look it up on the Internet, it sounds easy. I have not yet tried it, but plan to very soon.

I, too, eat Silver Floss and have had no problems.

The last time I had canned saurkraut was about 10 years ago and I had severe gut pain all night. It was terrible. I was afraid it was the saurkraut and haven't been brave enough to try it again. Don't remember what brand. :(

My grandfather used to make his own saurkraut and it was way better than anything you can get in a can! I did put some canned stuff in a crockpot with a small pork loin a couple weekends ago though and I did not have a problem... I believe it was the silver floss brand.

Thanks for all the responses. I used to make wonderful sauerkraut with beer, pork, caraway and any brand of canned or jars of sauerkraut. Now that I am "gluten sensitive", that leaves out the beer. I am also finding that now when I eat any gluten containing foods, the reaction is far worse than before I went gluten free. I have been gluten free since the early spring. As a result, I am able to decrease my beta blocker medication (for atrial fibs and a pacemaker) due to no longer losing minerals through diarrhea.

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
