Distended Stomach Question

My DD was diagnosed gluten sensitive via stool test at enterolab. We did not get a blood test or biopsy and she's been gluten free since just after Thanksgiving.

While her disposition has changed for the better & she complains less about her tummy hurting her distended stomach hasn't really gone down much. I realize it will take time but I thought I would have noticed a difference by now.

Has anyone been in a similar situation and found out a different cause for the distended stomach?

If you havent already eliminate dairy. If you've already done that eliminate soy. If she actually has celiac, and not just gluten sensitive, she is lactose intolerant, lactose is digested at the tips of the villi, and in celiac those villi are damaged, or gone, so newly diagnosed celiacs are lactose intolerant. My daughter just recently formed a soy intolerance as well, and the more i read on it, i've found thats actually really common. Hope that helps!

Thanks for the tip. We have eliminated dairy as she also tested sensitive to dairy on the enterolab test. Guess we'll try soy next. My husband thinks we should test her for it (he likes to see the #s). Since its a stool test we might do it. Lot easier than a blood test.

Your welcome! That second post i made for some reason didnt post... anyway i was just going to say that i made my first post assuming that ya'll are completely gluten free. If you havent already you'll need to replace your nonstick pans, wooden spoons, and toaster. Call all of the foods she normally eats and verify the gluten status. It's really easy, just call the 1-800 number and they should be able to tell you if any specific product is gluten free. Some companies will even send you a list of all of their gluten-free products.

I dont know all the details but I know yeast can cause distended tummy... it is in lots of stuff, even gluten free items...vinegar....sugars etc... not a fun one ! Thinking of pursuing it myself ND recommended...

Good luck !

Hello everyone, I am a young adult living with both Celiac disease and achalasia. I am looking for some inspiration to start raising awareness for people with Celiac disease on instagram. Please reach out to me if you have any tips and ideas on what is important to share to the world.

I agree with @trents, could be worth having another scope. Oddly enough I'm in the same boat except my current odd sensation is near my appendix, I think I'll request a colonoscopy for peace of mind.
