What Could This Be?

I have been sick for the last couple of days from what a think is gluten. I am not so sure now. I have had HORRIBLE, watery diarrhea (it is so bad that I am sore in that area B) ). But the worst symptom is I keep getting these horrible pains in my upper abdomen. They feel like really horrible cramps. They come and go, and I am usually doubled over in pain when it happens, and they come every few minutes. I can't take this much longer. Do you guys think this is from gluten?? Or could it be something else? None of my kids are sick, and we have all eaten the same things I think!

Thanks for your opinions!

I had a HORRIBLE stomach bug about 4 weeks ago that consisted of pains like you're describing. Eventually my whole family got it. It was really nasty and I was much sicker than anyone else. It also manifested differently in each of us.

that sounds like a typical glutening for me, but you might want to see the doc to be sure. and make sure you are drinking enough fluids because of the D. good luck, hope you feel better :( I get awful pain from gluten, it's trapped gas in my case. but severe abdominal pain can definitely be a cause for concern...like I said, see the doc, though they may not be our favorite people

Those were some of my pre-diagnosis symptoms. Are you taking any new meds or vitamins? Can you think of something that you repeatedly ingest? Is there any cross contamination from kids, animals, work or home? Could it be from something previously known to be safe and perhaps reformulated? Run through your own checklist.

But, then on the other hands, we do have to remember that all roads don't lead to gluten, so maybe it's a stomach bug

Try some antacids and maybe that might help with the cramping. and lots of water. I hope it passes quickly.

If this is not your typical gluten reaction I would guess a stomach bug. There are some hideous ones circulating. Hope you feel better soon.

If it continues or gets worse you should call your doctor or go to the ER. It could be a lot of different things, including of course gluten. I hope that your either feeling better or you have gotten some help by now.

Vomiting & Diarrhea are also signs of appendix problems - if you are still in pain I would also just go to the ER to make sure nothing else is wrong - better to be on the safe side...

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
