Ok, so yesterday when we were on our way home from work gas was 3.17 at this station. A few hours later I ran to the dollar tree to get some things for some easter baskets....the same station was 3.30! This is just nuts. I know there is nothing much we can do about it, no matter what I have to go to work. We barely go anywhere else as it is....what more can we give up?

Just had to vent this sorry folks!

In the Portland Oregon area it's upward of $3.40 a gallon for regular! ...and I have to fill up this morning.

This weekend I had two plans, Tonight was to go to York (45 mins away) and have dinner and drinks and then go bowling and catch this band play at a club. We see my college friends only every few months so it would be both John and I going to see them.

Then I wanted to take Sabrina to breakfast with the Easter Bunny, it is at Wegmans and free. So I would be going home to see my family. ( 2 hrs away)

John told me I needed to choose one or the other. We didn't have money to do both, have the gas to go both places.

I choose my family and this will be my Easter visit.

We need to fill up too, my neighbor below has a Sam's Club membership and gas is 3.18 there...which is still high but a savings compared to the other gas stations. So she lent us the card and we are going there to fill up after work.

I think we are 3:09, but i havent looked in a while, i filled up 3 weeks ago and still have over an half lol, one good thing about living in a small town lol. Gas is crazy anymore. What my dad does, he is king of cheap, when gas is cheap like out of town and he has to go there anyway he will fill up like 8 gas cans of 10 galloons each and that is enough gas to fill up the cars for about an month lol.

We always get gas at safeway cause u get 10 cents off if u spend 50 bucks on food, well we always have a few of the 10 cents off threw the month lol I dotn get gas at places i dont get some kind of discount.

San Diego always has the highest prices in the country.

We paid 3.65 for Regular Unleaded this week & we were looking for a good price.

We call it the Sunshine Tax ! B)

Sorry, but if we could find gas at $3.18 we would be doing a happy dance in the middle of the street. Try $3.55.

There was a news story yesterday that somewhere in Northern California it was $5.12! :o:ph34r: They asked the station owner why he charged so much and he had two answers. 1) Because he was in the middle of nowhere. (True but irrelevant.) and 2) (Get this) BECAUSE HE COULD GET AWAY WITH IT! :o

AARRRGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tourists from Germany thought $5.12 was (gasp) CHEAP! They were happy to pay it!

There is something you can do about it. Read this and start doing it.

Wow, $4 something ... that's unbelievable. I don't think it's gonna get any better any time soon.

Yeah, Hawaii pays a serious sunshine tax :P ! I guess I should restate: San Diego typically has the highest average price of the Continental United States. Although, last year when I was visiting Oahu, we paid about the same we were paying here.

Yeah, Paula, we don't cry about it. We just pay it - but it stings a bit.

I paid 1.09/litre yesterday which I think is just about $5/gallon. There would be VERY long line ups if gas went as cheap as $3.30 gallon which would be about 75 cents/litre. I don't think gas has ever been that cheap since I've had my licence. I wonder why gas is more expensive in Canada?

* I get confused with imperial gallons and "metric gallons" so my math may be a bit off.

blueeyedmanda Community Regular

When I started driving gas was 89 cents a gallon....that was only 10 yrs ago.

Ouch !

That's rough. Ooooh - $5. That's a lot.

Morrisun Newbie

I think we're at $3.05-$3.09 as of yesterday. Sadly, I too remember paying under a dollar a gallon. It's such a scam!!

psawyer Proficient

Alex, it can be confusing indeed.

The Imperial gallon is 160 ounces, while the smaller volume that the misguided folks in the Excited States mistake for a "gallon" is only 128 ounces. They further confuse things by calling 32 ounces a "quart" (should be 40), and 16 ounces a "pint" (should be 20). :o

Converting 1.09/l to US I get about 3.99/US gal.

I can remember gas at 39.9 cents per Imperial gallon (yes, the decimal point is in the correct place).

Oh, well, at least at the moment a dollar is a dollar, or close enough.

Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

The US has Texas; we have Taxes.:angry:

Thanks for clarifying the gallon conversion Peter. I'm firmly rooted in the metric generation and get awfully confused doing conversions. Very confusing that there are two different gallons. Everything I learned in school was metric. It always drives me crazy when recipes use ounces as a measurement! My measuring cups have cups and mL!!! And then fl. oz. vs. oz., don't even get me started! I am an SI/metric girl -- well besides for how I measure my height and weight. ;)

The US has Texas; we have Taxes.:angry:

Yeah, you're right about that! I should have figured that was the reason!

I filled up yesterday at $3.34.

The gas prices are really hampering our plans for spring break!!!

We have tax on gas don't we....in the US?

I know, my mom and dad and family live 2hrs away, in the spring/summer/fall I visit more often since the winter is iffy with snow and all...this will make me not visit so much. I always said I wouldnt let gas slow my family contact but it might hamper it...

Plus I am not sure I can afford to go to the shore for vacation this year now, between gas and tolls....no room for hotels and such!

That's about what it is here in Los Angeles. Ugh, it's SO expensive!!!

Yes, but the tax on gas in Canada is much higher. Each province has a per-litre rate, and there is a federal per-litre rate, and then the GST is added to the price with the first two taxes included, so we pay sales tax on the excise taxes.

In Ontario, the provincial tax is 14.7 cents per litre, added to the federal tax of 10 cents. If we pay 1.05 for a litre, 29.7 cents of it is tax, once you add the sales tax (GST) to the already taxed price of 1.00.

State taxes in the continental US range from 14 to 31.2 cents per gallon (PA is the highest). The federal rate is around 18 cents per gallon, if I recall. A US gallon is about 3.7 litres.

wow! When I fill up my truck, in 3 weeks or so, it'll be expensive!

We were $3.45 yesterday (Indiana) when I had to fill up. Seems like I always need to fill up right after the price has jumped and I can't wait to see if it's going to come down a bit . . . although, I don't think it is.

tarnalberry Community Regular

We have to get 92 octane, so I paid $3.80/gal yesterday. Regular unleaded was, I think, $3.55/gal. Pretty sure it'll hit $4 before June.

Europe pays so much more, and it helps keep me aware of being efficient about diving, carpooling, and alternative transportation.

At 41 years old I have been fighting fatigue and joint pain for a couple months.  My family doctor kept saying nothing was wrong but I was insistent that I just didn’t feel right.  Finally after running several blood labs, one came back showing inflammation in my body and I was referred to a rheumatologist.  He was extremely thorough and sat with me and my family for a good hour asking questions and listening. He ordered X-rays of all my joints and more bloodwork.  He suspected some sort of reactive inflammatory arthritis.  My TTG (Tissue Transglutaminase) came back at 34. he told me to try going gluten free and out me on Salfasalzin to help the join inflammation.  Over the next couple days going gluten free and doing a lot of research and talking to people with celiacs,  we found that I should have an upper endoscopy for insurance purposes in the future.  I reached back out to my rheumatologist and expressed this concern and he got back to me stating I was correct and resume regular gluten diet and stop the medication until after that scope.     They were able to schedule me in for 2 days later.  I had been gluten free, or as close to it as I could be for about 5 days.  I know I ate some brats with it but wanted to use them up.  My symptoms had gotten slightly better in those 5 days.  I felt less fatigue and joint pain was slightly better(it had gotten really bad) so for these last 2 days I’ve gone crazy with wheat bread, pasta and such.  I’m hoping those 5 days didn’t screw this endoscopy up.  I can’t imagine after a life of gluten, my intestines healed in 5 days and after eating gluten again for these couple days,  my stomach hurts, joint pain is coming back up so I know the inflammation is there.   Hinesight after this diagnosis, I have had chronic migraines since my late teens.  Has that been a lingering symptom of celiacs all these years?  I’ve never really had the stomach issues, for me it came in heavy these last couple months as the fatigue, just always feeling tired and exhausted.  And the joint pain.     So getting in the car for the 2 hour drive to the hospital for this scope now.     Wish me luck!

To play it safe, use Vasoline Lip Therapy. No questions as to it containing gluten.

jmartes, Thank you for sharing  more information with us. Most of us Celiacs whose problems do not clear up with in a few years have to decide what to do next. We can keep seeing DR.s and hope that we will get some  medication or advice that will improve our health. Or we can go looking for other ways to improve our health. Usually Celiac Disease is not a killer disease, it is a disabling disease as  you have found out. You have time to find some ways to help you recover. Stay on your gluten-free diet and be more careful in avoiding cross contamination . KnittyKitty  and others here can give you advice about avoiding some foods that can give you the gluten auto immune reaction and advice about vitamins and supplement that help celiacs. You may need to take higher doses of Vit. B12  and D3.  About 20 years before a Dr. suggested I might have Celiac disease I had health problems that all other Dr said they could not identify or treat. I was very opposed to alternative providers and treatments. So many people were getting help from a local healer I decided to try that out. It was a little helpful but then, because I had a good education in medical laboraties she gave me a book  to read and what did I think. With great skeptism I started reading and before I was half way through it I began using the methods outlined in the book. Using those herbs and supplements I went from hardly able to work to being able to work almost fulltime. I still use that program. But because I had undiagnosed celiac disease by 10 years later some  of my problems returned and I started to loose weight.    So how does a person find a program that will benefit them? Among the programs you can find online there are many that are snake oil scams and some that will be beneficial. by asking around, as I did. Is there an ND in your area? Do they reccomend that person? If you would like to read about the program I use go to www.drclark.net

It's unfortunate that they won't work with you on this, but in the end sometimes we have to take charge of our own health--which is exactly what happened to me. I did finally get the tests done, but only after years of going down various rabbit holes and suffering. Just quitting gluten may be the best path for you at this point.

My doctor didn't take the time to listen to anything. I don't even think she knows what it means. She is more concerned about my blood pressure that is caused by her presence than anything else and just wants to push pills at me. The so-called dermatologist wouldn't do a skin test. she prescribed all of these silly antihistamine skin meds. This lady didn't even know what she was talking about and said "they never turn out as celiac, they usually just say it's dermatitis so here's your meds," just like my regular quack. I'm trying to change insurance companies at the moment and that has been a battle because of red tape, wrong turns, and workers having wrong phone numbers. What a joke! The allergy blood days say I have a wheat allergy of .31. Hopefully it's just that and until I find a decent doctor and dermatologist, I'll just lay off the wheat anyway, since it gives me asthma, high blood sugar, and joint pain. So frustrated at this point. The rash on my back of arms/elbows is mostly gone. Both calves and chest have started up. smh. It comes and goes. It fades faster now, though, although my forearms still produce one or two bumps on each side. The itching has calmed down a lot except for the bump area. I have dry skin to begin with so anything affecting it just makes it crazy. i'm never going to eat wheat again. I don't care if they need it to produce results or if it is just an intolerance, allergy, or celiac. It gives me hell.
