Hey everyone, I just enjoyed a VERY tasty Spring Onion Rice Noodle Bowl! The product is from Thai Kitchen, and I found it in the "healthy food" section at Sobey's (chain in the Maritimes). It is imported by Epicurean International Inc, in Berkeley, California.

I'll let you all know tomorrow if I have any adverse reactions, but the label is quite clear, and I don't see any gluten! :D

I can't remember that last time I had a "cup of soup", 3 minutes in the microwave and presto!

The same company makes "Noodle Cart" which is Rice Noodles and Sauce. The flavours I've found are Thai Peanut, Pad Thai (not sure what that is??) and Roasted Garlic (also available in the soup). I plan to try them all as long as I don't react to this one! Of course the piggy in me is eyeing them now! :unsure:

Anyway, just wanted to share my find, hopefully some of you have already tried it and can tell us they were fine for us! :)

ANSWER:

Most of Thai Kitchen products are wheat/gluten free. The exceptions are Hot and Sour Rice Noodle Soup Bowl, Peanut Sauce Mix, Peanut Bake, Savory Garlic Stir-fry Rice Noodles (5.3oz), and the Lemongrass and Chili Rice Noodle Soup (5.3oz box), Toasted Sesame Stir-Fry (New) and Curry Stir Fry (New).

On a sad note... has anyone heard that Butterball is discontinuing their Turkey Franks?? :( My grocery store told me yesterday! I have emailed Butterball today with a plea for a replacement! Will let you all know if I hear anything!

Oh well, back to Thai food! :rolleyes:

I have been relying on the the rice noodle bowls and dishes since I found out I had celiacs in Sept.. I agree that they are pretty yummy! The Thai peanut is by far my most favorite, however the mushroom soup one is pretty good too.

I am so glad that they are so convenient, I thought there would be some type of hidden Gluten, however, I checked and yes the "Gluten Free" label is correct.

For anyone looking for this product, check your oriental isle at your local grocery store. I bought the teriyaki rice noodle side dish and added some chicken breast strips and veggies and it made for a really good and quick meal.

Great idea! I'll have to look farther afield for more of their products now that I know they're safe. Especially with the disappearance of Turkey Franks! :angry: They've been my staple for a quick belly tamer since going gluten-free! Being self employed with animals means my needs come after theirs! And they ALWAYS have needs! :blink:

Hi Sarah, I've been looking on the Thai Kitchen website and can't find the Teriyaki Rice noodle side dish you speak of... is it known by a different name? Could you have a look when you have a moment?

OOPS! My mistake, I went and checked the flavor that I have been using and it is the "Hot & Sour". I have not been able to find a teriyaki that is gluten-free have you?

I have made myself believe that "Hot & Sour" is teriyaki (my favorite sauce in stir fry's prior to gluten-free). I still follow directions on package but, add the chicken and veggies and use less liquid.

Another product that is good as well as labeled gluten-free (this one I have not double checked and I have had no reaction) is "Tasty Bite" Peas Paneer & Basmati rice.

In laymen's terms:Green peas & paneer cheese simmered with onions, tomatoes, spices and herbs which again states it has no gluten and I have had no reaction.

It is vegetarian, Gluten Free, no preservatives, kosher and has a long shelf life.

It takes 3 minutes to prepare and 2 minutes to heat in the microwave. I found this at a place called the "World Market" they are kind of like a "Pier One", however, they sell allot of imported food too.

Are your products gluten-free?

Most of our products (all except for the Indian Meats, Stir Fry Sauce & Noodles, and Vegetable Kofta Pilaf) are gluten-free. Kontos provides our bread. They should be contacted directly for all nutritional queries on bread, including gluten-free status. We have tested all Tasty Bite products, checked the antecedents of all our ingredients such as vinegar and spices - and can say with assurance that these products are indeed gluten-free.

I hadn't heard about the Thai Kitchen being gluten free before. Thank you so much for the introduction. I'm just hoping that we have a good selection out here in the Kootenay. Will check it out when I go to town on Monday. Can't wait! :D

Thanks for the clarification! I'm on my way out the door but just wanted to let you know that VH makes gluten-free soy sauce and many other stir fry sauces. Not sure if it's available in the US, but the supplier is ConAgra Foods. Search for it on Google!

It's not the Golden Dragon that I loved prior to gluten-free, but it's pretty good! Let me know if you can't find any details on it, and I'll have a look tomorrow!

Going home to BBQ steak, no one makes a steak for me like my honey! :rolleyes:

I've been eating many of Thai Kitchens soups but after going to their web site, it appears ALL their sauces are gluten-free.... hmmm I find that hard to believe.... I remember the other day looking at one of them in the store and thinking it was probably not gluten-free.. maybe it was because of the soy sauce.. I guess I'll have to try them now!

I have bought a few of their side dishes for my family who are not gluten-free, and those are the "lomein noodle" dishes, these I do not bother to check the labels of course, because I know the noodles are off limits for me. They are placed on the same shelf next to the "rice noodle dishes" so make sure you are checking the labels and the "gluten free" sits right under the ingredients. I am pretty leary of sauces, since I seem to not agree with most, however I did purchace the gluten-free version of soy sauce and use that quite a bit. I do not know how to make teriyki sauce and to be honest with you, I really did'nt know the base was soy...hehehehe

Do any of you know how to make TERIYAKI SAUCE? I miss this soooooo much! :P

Hey Sarah, I used to make a "hot Teriyaki Chicken Ceaser Salad", however since my husband Ron doesn't like Ceaser salad, I can say it's probably been a dozen years or so since I've done it. I'll look around in my recipes and see if I can find the sauce part. It was VERY good and really easy!

Will go check now, and hopefully share it today. :)

Hi, well a quick look did not yield the recipe! :( Sorry! I will keep looking. I did find some recipes for Teriyaki marinade, so possibly I had just used one of those and added a bit of cornstarch to thicken it.

Basically Teriyaki is: Soy Sauce, sugar, fresh ground ginger and fresh chopped garlic. Some recipes add red wine or sherry. I do have a recipe for Orange Teriyaki Pork Roast that is "to die for" but I don't have it on this computer! Will try to find it tomorrow and post it under the proper topic heading. I did start a new topic called VH products. You can check that out for the VH Stirfry sauces.

Btw, something I did discover while looking through my OLD recipe cards... perhaps I'm just a little slow :unsure: , but it hadn't occurred to me before... :blink: as I licked my finger to separate some cards that were stuck together, it occurred to me, that they were probably contaminated with flour!!! :o And so are probably all of my cook books! :wacko:

So if you haven't considered it before, there's my thought for the day! :P

Since LaChoy's Soy Sauce is wheat free , I assume their teriyaki sauce is too.

I believe they are distributed by ConAgra foods who say they list wheat on their bottles.

hi ,

i love to cook so always looking for recipes. got this one for teriaki sauce off one of the gluten-free sites , havent tryed yet hope this helps :D .

combine and cook over med , simmer ,wisk for 5 mins and reduce till thickened to your preference

1/3 cup soy sauce gluten-free

1/3 cup pineapple juice know dole has gluten-free pineapple just use juice

1/4 cup mirin(japanese sweet rice wine)

3 tablespoons sugar

1/4 teaspoon ground pepper or 1 tsp fresh ginger grated

      I was diagnosed with coeliac disease a couple of years ago [ish]. I love my food and a variety of food, so it's been hard, as it is with everyone. I try and ensure everything I eat doesn't contain gluten, but occasionally I think something must have got through that has gluten in. Mainly I know because I have to dash to the loo, but recently I have noticed that I feel nauseous after possibly being glutened. I think the thing that I have got better at is knowing what to do when I feel wiped out after a gluten 'episode'. I drink loads of water, and have just started drinking peppermint tea. I also have rehydration powders to drink. I don't feel like eating much, but eventually feel like I need to eat. Gluten free flapjacks, or gluten free cereal, or a small gluten free kids meal are my go to. I am retired, so luckily I can rest, sometimes even going to bed when nothing else works. So I feel that I am getting better at knowing how to try and get back on track. I am also trying to stick to a simpler menu and eat mostly at home so that I can be more confident about what I am eating. THANKS TO THOSE WHO REPLIED ABOUT THE NAUSEA .

      Thanks. Since the back and forth and promises of review and general stalling went on for more than six months, the credit company will no longer investigate. They have a cutoff of maybe six months.

Normally you have a few months to do a chargeback with them. It seems very odd that they are taking this approach with someone who is likely to be a regular customer--not a good business-minded way of handling things!

      Many people with celiac disease, especially those who are in the 0-2 year range of their recovery, have additional food intolerance issues which could be temporary. To figure this out you may need to keep a food diary and do an elimination diet over a few months. Some common food intolerance issues are dairy/casein, eggs, corn, oats, and soy. The good news is that after your gut heals (for most people who are 100% gluten-free this will take several months to two years) you may be able to slowly add some these items back into your diet after the damaged villi heal. This article may be helpful: The most common nutrient deficiencies associated with celiac disease that may lead to testing for the condition include iron, vitamin D, folate (vitamin B9), vitamin B12, calcium, zinc, and magnesium.  Unfortunately many doctors, including my own doctor at the time, don't do extensive follow up testing for a broad range of nutrient deficiencies, nor recommend that those just diagnosed with celiac disease take a broad spectrum vitamin/mineral supplement, which would greatly benefit most, if not all, newly diagnosed celiacs. Because of this it took me decades to overcome a few long-standing issues I had that were associated with gluten ataxia, for example numbness and tingling in my feet, and muscle knots--especially in my shoulders an neck. Only long term extensive supplementation has helped me to resolve these issues.
