Help... Postive Blood Neg Biopsy

My family doc is pretty sure I have celiac. He ran these test and this is the results:

Antigliadin IgA 17 normal is <20

and\ IgG 59 normal is <20

Anti-tissue Transglutaminase Antibody (tTG) IgA 74 normal is <20

When he told me restults, he said you have celiac. Don't ever let anyone ever tell you you don't. He told me I MUST go gulten free ASAP and my SIL who is a doc concurred. He sent me for a biopsy and I really didn't want to go but I did. I told him I was a happy with blood results only but he insisted I needed biopsy. I thought it would take months but it took less than 4 weeks. The resident who was at the biopsy told me I might have to do a gluten challenge but the GI shook his head and said no 4 weeks was not enough ot heal damage. I don't remember ANY of the procedure but I saw the doc's notes afterward that noted scalloping. I called today to make nutritionist appt and get results. Results were "normal" according to secretary. I asked if it was pathology results and she said yes. I don't even get to have an appt with the doc because of the "normal".

I left a msg with nutritionist and she called me back tonight. She said there was a msg from the receptionist that said I needed an appt urgently? WTH? I just don't get it.

I'm completely confused. Family doc is on vacation until after labour day.

I have thyroid issues and have for years. We've been playing around with those meds so I'm not sure if I feel better because of that or going gluten-free. I have never had really bad stomach issues, jsut heart burn. I have had anemia and severe fatigue. The fatigue is all but gone but could be from changing thryoid meds.

Thoughts?

Celiac often leads to Thyroid and anemia. Ask around here. Show of hands and most of us have these very issues. There are no "false positives" on the blood. Your Doctor is absolutely right. You are Celiac and you MUST eat gluten-free.

Biopsy has a high rate of false negatives because damage can be spotty. If they dont take samples from damaged areas, it wont show. Plus if you were eating gluten-free even for a few weeks before biopsy it can affect the results.

You are Celiac.

gluten-free will not only heal your insides....it can help heal your thyroid too. Many Celiacs find they can lower their thyroid meds after they heal. Some can get off of them all together.

Welcome.

Agreeing with Shay. I would also recommend that you call any offices that have done ANY testing on you and have them mail you the results. You need to be the one keeping up with them so you don't fall through the cracks.

I have copies of the bloodwork from my doc. He's good about that. I have no idea how to get copies form the hospital - the person I talked to was downright rude.

I hoping the nutritionist is good and has copies of my tests ;)

So no false positives from thyroid disease?

Yes, I, too, have osteoporosis from years of malabsorption, too.  Thiamine and magnesium are what keep the calcium in place in the bones.  If one is low in magnesium, boron, selenium, zinc, copper, and other trace minerals, ones bone heath can suffer.  We need more than just calcium and Vitamin D for strong bones.  Riboflavin B 2, Folate B 9 and Pyridoxine B 6 also contribute to bone formation and strength.   Have you had your thyroid checked?  The thyroid is important to bone health as well.  The thyroid uses lots of thiamine, so a poorly functioning thyroid will affect bone heath.

That sounds so very likely in my case! I will absolutely ask my doctor on my next bone check coming up in March... Thanks a lot!

Calcium levels as measured in the blood can be quite deceiving as the body will rob calcium from the bones to meet demands for it by other bodily functions. Also, supplementing with calcium can be counterproductive as it tends to raise gut pH and decrease absorption. More often than not, the problem is poor absorption to begin with rather than deficiency of intake amounts in the diet. Calcium needs an acidic environment to be absorbed. This is why so many people on PPIs develop osteoporosis. The PPIs raise gut pH. And some people have high gut PH for other reasons. Low pH equates to a more acidic environment whereas high pH equates to a more basic (less acidic) environment.

Kind thanks for all this valuable information! Since my Folate was/is low and also my Calcium, there IS a chance I am low in B vitamins... My doctor only measured the first two, oh and Zinc as I has twisted her arm and guess what, that was mega low too. So who knows, until I get myself tested properly, what else I am deficient in... I did a hair mineral test recently and it said to avoid All sources of Calcium. But this is confusing for me as my Ca is so low and I have osteoporosis because of this. It is my Adjusted Ca that is on the higher side and shouldn't be. So am not sure why the mineral test showed high Ca (well, it was medium in the test but relative to my lowish Magnesium, also via hair sample, it was high I was told). But anyway, thanks again for the VitB download, I will look into this most certainly!

Hello good afternoon, I was wondering if anyone has ever brought their anti-allergy pills? I have been wanting to use their Cetirizine HCI 10mg. They are called HealthA2Z and distributed by Allegiant Health.I’m also Asthmatic and these allergies are terrible for me but I also want to be sure they don’t have any sort of gluten compound.    I have tried calling them but to no avail. Has anyone ever used them? If so, did you had any problems or no problems at all?    thank you
