Hi all,

Still gluten free for 2months -- but reality is sinking in big time. After my initial euphoria at finally feeling better! -- now I realize it's such a constant vigil. Gluten is everywhere -- in everything! Have been glutened 3 times now -- yuck! Latest one was today -- at the dentist's office. I told them about my gluten situation, and was assured there would be no problem. Had a 2+ hour appointment and sure enough -- sitting in the chair an hour & 1/2 after I arrived I felt that awful gurgling, bubbling, bloating -- get me to a bathroom NOW! reaction. That's exactly how I react to glutenings -- it comes on pretty fast for me.

I've been so very, very careful -- it really felt like something was going on in the Dentist's office -- but what? Anyone else ever have this reaction at the Dentist's?

Oh well....there's always tomorrow.

Anyone else ever have this reaction at the Dentist's?

Hi, No I havent had a reaction at the Dentist's, but after what is weird is I did after they put on my braces. And like you I asked and asked and they told me everything was fine, but I got sick for about 3 days which is not like me. I had all of my symptoms also so it wasnt something else. So yes I have had a reaction along the same lines, and it stinks!!

It may be the tooth paste/polish they use, or the fluoride rinse or mouthwash. I'll check with my aunt who's a dental hygienist to see if she has any insight, and let you know if I find out anything... At least she knows what celiac disease is. Maybe your dentist(s) didn't know to check the toothpaste??

This'll be a good thing to look into since I have to go to my regular checkup in a couple months. <_< My aunt is trying to figure out if my celiac disease is why I've had some dental issues. Anyone heard of a tooth having internal resorption? Good times.

Lucky me, my dentist's wife and four kids are celiacs. His office is definitely gluten-free, for which I am eternally grateful, having spent several hours in the chair the last two days :(:) Double root canal today, what fun!!

I am also lucky, my dentist is a lady, and has son with lactose intolerance and a weird monosodium glutamate intolerance herself, and is always willing to learn more.

So far no glutening from Dentist.

As far as I know, both bone re-sorption in the jaw, and tooth decay can be related to celiac (as well as gum disease) so, while I am not sure exactly what is meant by "internal tooth re-sorption", my guess is that it is related.

The gluten is in the flavored polish they use when they clean your teeth. After reading some posts here, it appears not all brands of the polish have gluten and that there is actually an unflavored product they can use that is just pumice. But these were older posts. Perhaps the safest thing is not to get your teeth polished at all.

BTW-- ACT mouthwashes (often rec. by dentists) are gluten-free. I have a confirm on that by email from the company.

Good to know. I am going to the dentist on Monday and I am nervous about it... I am going to make them check the polish.

I have definately been glutened at the dentist and also made to feel like my abused teeth were my own fault- by the hygentist!

First she asked my if I used a electric toothbrush? I said yes, and she said it must not be very good since I had discoloration on several teeth. When I told her it was Sonicare, she said that was a good brand but, I must not be using it for the full two minutes recommended. (I do)

I guess more people still need to be informed!!!

The Lindt (Lindor) dairy-free oat milk truffles are definitely gluten-free, and (last time I checked) so are the white chocolate truffles and the mint chocolate truffles.

I've used magnesium taurinate and magnesium taurate vitamins.  Didn't notice much of a difference when I used them.

More great tips, and a good excuse to shop at M&S and also buy more iced buns!   I wish we had an ASDA near us, as the few times we've been to one their gluten-free pasta range seemed very reasonably priced compared to other shops.  Thanks so much, @Russ H.
