Dr's Opinion-eye Twitch Cause Usually Metabolic

FYI I had my eyes checked recently (hooray, no new prescription needed) and when I told the eye doctor that the skin below my eye used to twitch but since glasses & going gluten-free the twitching went away, he said

"in my opinion the cause of eye twitches is almost always metabolic".

He said the usual culprits are water and salt (too much or too little of either) - but accepted that gluten alone might do it.

Hey, in my system if I get glutened the D does a job on my water & salt levels anyway ;)

Another person mentioned eye twitches a few days ago... mine stopped doing that! :) I used to notice it in my upper eyelids when I was watching TV because it would interfere with my vision.

Actually, I haven't noticed any muscle twitches either since I went gluten-free.

We had thread about this a while back. My eye twitched for almost the whole month of Dec last year. The suggestion on here was sublingual b12 and a b supplement. My eye stopped twitching within a day or two of starting both.

This makes sense. Twitches would be misfires in the nervous system and since the B12 helps nerve conduction that would help with the misfires. I hadn't thought about it but I don't get those either anymore. Or the drooping eyelid that sometimes would drop so far that it interfered with my vision.

I get twitches from time to time too and it drives me nuts! My doctor suggested a magnesium supplement to reduce the spasms.

mine just started up again bad. I started drinking coffee again, I stopped in January cause I could not handle it after going gluten free.

hmmm. caffeine, plus I am not drinking enough water either.

My eye lid twitches when my blood sugar is starting to get low. Sometimes it is a nice warning to go get something in me quick, before my sugar levels drop down to the basement.

Interesting, when I suffered for a few months with ectopics I noticed that carbohydrates would cause indigestion and bloating in my stomach, then that would lead to my heart skipping beats, and I could feel it in my throat, it was very unsettling.  My last serious bout of this was after eating a Muller Rice Pudding for breakfast.   I happened to be wearing a 48 hour halter at the time and cardiology picked it up, but they weren't worried about what they saw. There was some British doctor who'd made some videos on the Vagus nerve that I remember watching at the time which made sense of what I was experiencing, there did seem to be some sort of connection.

I asked my cardiologist about stopping vitamins.  He said his tests account for all detectable vitamins from sources other than food.  I only need to stop them for a couple of days.  He has me keep records of meds and vitamins I've ingested over the past 10 days and prior and he does his calculations.

Reply to treats I try and eat to bring up the glucose. Sometime I get up 3 times a night and eat something. I don't think food is the issue. A lot of the food they say should help doesn't.  Many mornings my level is 59 and I feel sick, sometimes for hours. It has been recommended I go to an Endocrinologist.
