Low Progesterone Levels

Hi everyone!

I just found out I'm pregnant, but my progesterone levels are really low. I have a doctor's appt tomorrow to have it checked again. I'm really nervous that it has dropped and I'll misscarry... (Again. I have been pregnant 3 times in the past and they resulted in 2 miscarriages and 1 still birth).

Has anyone else had this problem? Can they supplement the progesterone?

Thanks!

Absolutely!!!! I'm so glad you asked :)

For the first twelve weeks you can use progesterone suppositories. Kind of gross... but it definitely helps. After that, the placenta usually kicks in and starts producing enough progesterone on its own. BUT... if this doesn't happen, you can start getting shots of progesterone. I've heard of women doing that from 12 weeks to 37 weeks in order to carry to full term.

If your OB doesn't know about this, then you need to find a high-risk OB who does.

My pleasure! :)

I know how hard it is to lose a child. I'm just glad I had some useful information for you!

First off congrats on your pregnancy!

How low is your progesterone level? If it is above 7 or 8, you have a good chance of keeping the pregancy with supplimentation. If it is lower than that, there may not be much that can be done to help keep the pregnancy viable. Call your dr right away to get on supplements! You need to start immediately if your levels are really low.

I am currently 30 weeks pregnant. When I first found out, my progesterone was 12- I was put on an oral dose of Prometrium to help boost it. I stopped taking it at 12 weeks (once the placenta took over progesterone production).

Good luck, and I hope you have a successful pregnancy this time around!

Just letting everyone know....

I just got a call from the doctor and my levels are up! My progesterone went from about 13 to 140-something. I'm sooo happy!

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?

Thankyou so much for your words. Its a hard battle when a supposed well known hospital whose celiac " specialist " has down played me because my colon looks fine and put it in my medical and so pcp doesn't take seriously. In their eyes we all carry that gene.Im having alot of bad days trying to be positive because of it.
