Hormone Wackiness

I am NOT saying that I am pregnant because I am NOT. But a good friend of mine is married with 3 kids and we got on the subject of pregnancy and all the freak things that can happen... and she told me something... she said when she conceived her youngest son, she took home pregnancy tests and they were negative. She did a pee test in a hospital that was negative too. But then she had a blood test come out positive and it was confirmed by ultrasound. She was pregnant the whole time.

She told me she had been on various hormone treatments including the depro shot at the time of conception. Apparently her doctor told her that ANY kind of hormone therapy is able to trick a home pee test into thinking its negative. Since the blood tests are a different test altogether, the hormones have no real affect on them.

I am on the pill as well as on thyroid hormones for a goiter (will be on thyroid meds the rest of my life). It made me wonder, will my hormone treatments affect my home pregnancy tests when the time comes to try and conceive?

And if this is true, why don't they warn you about it? Not all hormone therapy treatments are safe for babies...

Thyroid hormones are identical to the hormones your body should be producing naturally (it's like a type I diabetic taking insulin). They will NOT interfere with birth control or pregnancy tests. Also... thyroid hormones are considered a Class A drug, the safest possible for a pregnant woman. If a woman with hypothyroidism becomes pregnant, she should definitely be tested on a regular basis and treated accordingly. Insufficient levels of thyroid hormones can lead to pregnancy loss and reduced IQ in the fetus.

Also... bear in mind that there are lots of different hormones ;) The thyroid hormones are called T4, T3, T2, and T1. They have nothing to do with estrogen and progesterone (although the thyroid does help regulate production of those reproductive hormones).

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

This is an older article, but may be helpful.

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?

Thankyou so much for your words. Its a hard battle when a supposed well known hospital whose celiac " specialist " has down played me because my colon looks fine and put it in my medical and so pcp doesn't take seriously. In their eyes we all carry that gene.Im having alot of bad days trying to be positive because of it.
