Last night my husband was drinking a pepsi....(for some reason I am unable to tolorate caramel coloring). He left the room....now mind you I LOVE pepsi, so I reached down, picked it up, and started smelling it....lol. So here I am smelling his soda when he walks in....looks at me (like I have lost my mind) and says "what are you doing?". I reply, "smelling your soda in the hopes that it will trick my mind into thinking I have had it....." LOL (so he is right in looking at me like I am crazy). He then gets this panic in his eyes and says " you didn't drink it did you!!!" Which I hadn't but he was so worried...he is so sweet!!

Anyone else there get caught doing weird things since going gluten free?? I am sure I will get caught sniffing other things.

Yeah.....I've been know to sniff on occaision! :lol: Unfortunately, a lot of the things I used to like...I can't even tolerate the smell anymore .... or maybe it's forntunate. Siiiggghhhh

It's become a ritual on the rare occasion that my husband has a beer - upon opening it (or having it delivered to our table) he automatically passes it to me, so I can get a good whiff! It definitely tricks my mind for a little while.

I admit, I've also secretly sniffed his full-of-gluten sandwich rolls and donuts without his knowledge!

It is good to know that I am not crazy!! LOL I was really enjoying the smelling of his pepsi and will continue to do so whenever he has it..... :)

haha your not alone i smell EVERYTHING! people always make fun of me...i work at a place that serves food and i always want to eat it so smelling it helps a little

Kiddo came into the kitchen the other day after eating a container of key-lime pie yogurt and unintentionally breathed right in my face. It smelled so good. I told him he could breathe on me anytime after eating it! :lol: And we had a good laugh. Gluteny pizza is a different matter. Somehow the smell is more addictive and I will resist because it makes me so sick but just smelling it is not satisfying. I'm glad that I don't encounter it often.

I caught myself doing it yesterday when my husband and I walked into Walmart. The smell of the pizza and chicken.mmmm. I bought some gluten free pizza crust mix and mak my own pizza. :D

Hey I am doing more crazy stuff...The other day I put chocolate cake (can't have sugar cause of candida) and pizza in my plate, took a fork and pretended I was actually eating it. ......wow...that was pathetic!!!

And of course I do put my nose in everyones food. just to catch that smell....

lol So I'm not nuts! My dad and I went out for lunch at a pub yesterday. He ordered a Guinness, and I asked if I could sniff it. After a long inhale of that rich heavenly scent--nearly fell into the glass--I handed it back to him. He drank it and told me I enjoyed it very much. Aw, sweet dad.

This makes me laugh! I always "Secretly" sniff foods when people aren't looking. I was just sniffing my daughters Valentine Chocolates today, and I always sniff Chick-fil-a because I MISS IT SO MUCH!!!

Sometimes I catch myself watching people stuff that I can not eat. It is almost like food porn. lol

i used to go through the line in a deli or at a buffet and grab a dessert just so could visualize eating it. and i totally smelled it too! i do that all the time. i would bake a loaf of homemade gluten bread just for that scent of a yeast bread baking. mm... :)

and of course those delis with the chicken strips... you know where you can taste it because the scent of fried food is SO strong. i used to ask my hubby to breath in my face after brownie fudge sundaes and the like. no embarassment there. he's seen me at my weirdest.

That is a valid question.  Unfortunately the short answer is slim to none.  Be proactive, when the diagnosis process is completed, start GFD.  Remember also that the western diet is deficient in many nutrients that governments require fortification.  Read the side of a breakfast cereal box. Anti-tTG antibodies has superseded older serological tests It has a strong sensitivity (99%) and specificity (>90%) for identifying celiac disease. A list of symptoms linked to Celiac is below.  No one seems to be tracking it, but I suspect that those with elevated ttg, but not diagnosed with Celiac Disease, are diagnosed with celiac disease many years later or just die, misdiagnosed.  Wheat has a very significant role in our economy and society.  And it is addictive.  Anti-tTG antibodies can be elevated without gluten intake in cases of other autoimmune diseases, certain infections, and inflammatory conditions like inflammatory bowel disease. Transient increases have been observed during infections such as Epstein-Barr virus.Some autoimmune disorders including hepatitis and biliary cirrhosis, gall bladder disease. Then, at 65 they are told you have Ciliac Disease. Milk protein has been connected to elevated levels.   Except for Ireland and New Zealand where almost all dairy cows are grass fed, commercial diaries feed cows TMR Total Mixed Rations which include hay, silage, grains and concentrate, protein supplements, vitamins and minerals, byproducts and feed additives. Up to 80% of their diet is food that cannot be eaten by humans. Byproducts of cotton seeds, citrus pulp, brewer’s grains (wheat and barley, rye, malt, candy waste, bakery waste. The wheat, barley and rye become molecules in the milk protein and can trigger tTg Iga in persons suseptible to Celiac. I can drink Grass fed milk, it tastes better, like the milk the milkman delivered in the 50's.  If I drink commercial or Organic milk at bedtime I wake with indigestion.

      I strongly recommend 2 dedicated gluten free (gluten-free) restaurants in my area (East Bay of San Francisco Bay Area) (2025) -- Life is Sweet Bakery and Café in Danville. I've been a few times with friends and tried multiple entrees and salads. All very good and worth having again. I've also tried a number of their bakery goods. Six individual items plus a sauce. Outstanding. Not just "for gluten-free", but outstanding in its own right. Vibrant flavors, great textures.       I'm 67 and have been celiac for 17yrs. I had cataract surgery and they put a gluten lens in my eye. Through a lot of research, I found out about MMA acrylic...it contains gluten. It took 6 months for me to find a DR that would remove it and replace it with a gluten-free lens . I have lost some vision in that eye because of it . I also go to a prosthodontist instead of a regular dentist because they are specialized. He has made me a night guard and a few retainers with no issues... where my regular dentist didn't care. I have really bad reactions to gluten and I'm extremely sensitive, even to CC. I have done so much research on gluten-free issues because of these Drs that just don't care. Gluten is in almost everything shampoo, lotion, food, spices, acrylic, medication even communion wafers! All of my Drs know and believe me I remind them often.... welcome to my world!

      If this applies geographically, in the U.K., physicians will often declare a diagnosis of celiac disease based on the TTG-IGA antibody blood test alone if the score is 10x normal or greater, which your score is. There is very little chance the endoscopy/biopsy will contradict the antibody blood test.
