New Glutening Symptoms

I'm walking around at work this morning thinking, "Hey, my knees are pretty sore" (They get this creaky, un-oiled feeling), so I feel like a granny walking down the stairs. And tonight the small feet bones in my one foot are aching a bit. But it took until tonight for me to realise it's yet another glutening. <_< And I can bet you $20 I'll have stiff hands tomorrow morning, with maybe a bit of carpal tunnel flare-up.

I swear I never had symptoms like these pre-gluten-free! It looks like now that my GI system has calmed down a bit, trace amounts of gluten are affecting the rest of my body a lot worse.

And the source this time - I used a non-stick frying pan to fry up some stirfry last night, when I had used it during the day to fry some gluten-filled sausages for the hubby (I scrubbed it really well ok?!).

I know, I know, I'm going to buy a dedicated pan for myself this weekend :P

You know now that I read your post, I think I get the same thing. Sometimes my knees hurt so bad, but only for a day or so. For me it feels like someone if pushing on one side of my knee cap, like it's relocating. I thought it had something to do with my exercise, but I can never trace it back to a particular move. I'm sure it probably correlates with eating out or eating something processed and getting CC'd. I will have to pay better attention. I feel like an old lady when this happens too, and I'm only 32! :o

When I get glutened my joints swell up(aside fr the GI symptoms). My back hurts, knees, hands, etc. So it's probably from gluten. My hubby is the only one who eats gluten here and that is sparingly. He has his own oven toaster and it's in the basement. In the mainfloor of the house we have nothing with gluten. I think it'll help definitely to get your own kitchenware.

My knees are really achy, too. Do you think it's ok to keep using my old pans that have been scrubbed really well and ran through the dishwasher? I always put them through the dishwasher before re-using and now don't cook anything gluten-y at home (BF can go out for that stuff!). I'm hoping I don't have to buy all new pans and stuff. I did get a new toaster just for me.

It is great to recognize those more subtle symptoms. That will prevent you from long term low level gluten ingestion which has led to total return of symptoms for me. Then it was really hard to figure out what it was.

Hey LauraBeth,

I have wondered the same thing.... I am a substitute teacher, so I haven't worked at all since school got out. Thank goodness school is starting up again here soon, because my "reserves for the summer" are running low. Of course, this Celiac Diagnosis has helped deplete my reserves, especially in the beginning, because I had to stock all of the necessities and it got expensive! I chose to not replace my frying pan, because I simply couldn't afford to. I use "barkeepers friend" (which is a lot like comet but less abrasive) on the cookware and it seems to be fine. When I have an excess in cash again, I'll probably run over to a discount store and get a cheap, but not too cheap, frying pan, etc. That way, I can stop obsessively scrubbing my poor old pan. I haven't noticed any CC from the old pan, but perhaps its mild and I'm barely noticing... but I don't think so.... even though I have learned that I am VERY sensitive.

Good luck to you, and I hope everyone's symptoms get better soon! I have a bad back (bulging disk, and arthritis) but I'm amazed at how much better my chronic pain has gotten since going gluten-free. When I get glutened, sure enough, my back flares up and I'm back on medication. Joint pain, bone pain, etc.... Again, I am baffled by all the ways gluten can hurt us! ((hugs))

Too funny, I'm "ice-ing" my knees as I read this post! I never even thought about possibly getting glutened, even though achy bones were some of my symptoms before diagnosis. That would probably explain the bloating and mild cramps too... :P

Lol, just when I think I've got a hand on this gluten-free lifestyle.... oh my ;) Now it's time to figure out the culprit. It's difficult be the only gluten-free eater in a house full of "glutenites".

I have the same response. I have joint problems right now, knees especially which drives me crazy since I don't sit down during the day. I am sure mine happened eating out with friends last weekend. May I ask how long your symptoms usually last after you get glutened? I had a really bad experience in May where I was bed ridden for two weeks. This is just aggravating...and effecting my work outs which I kind of need to keep everything running smoothly.

Marz Enthusiast

The aching bones only lasts for a day or two at most for me, Srall. Stomach problems a few more days.

Good to know I'm not the only one with "granny" knees ;)

So I've been dealing with chasing the name celiac because of my body actively dealing with health issues related to celiac though not eating. Diagnosed in 1994 before foods eliminated from diet. After 25 years with former pcp I googled celiac specialist and she wasn't because of what ive been through. I wanted my results to be sent to my pcp but nothing was sent.I have email copies.I did one zoom call with np with team member from celiac specialist in Nov 2025 and she asked me why I wanted to know why I wanted the celiac diagnosis so bad, I sad I don't, its my life and I need revalidaion because its affecting me.KB stated well it shows you are.I asked then why am I going through all this.I was labeled unruly. Its been a celiac circus and medical has caused anxiety and depression no fault to my own other than being born with bad genetics. How is it legal for medical professionals to gaslight patients that are with an ailment coming for help to be downplayed? KB put in my records that she personally spent 120min with me and I think the zoom call was discussing celiac 80 min ONE ZOOM call.SHE is responsible for not explaining to my pcp about celiac disease am I right?

I've noticed with my age and menopause my smell for bread gives me severe migraines and I know this. Its alarming that there are all these fabulous bakeries, sandwich places pizza places popping up in confined areas.Just the other day I suffered a migraine after I got done with my mri when a guy with a brown paper bag walk in front of me and I smelled that fresh dough bread with tuna, I got a migraine when we got home.I hate im that sensitive. Its alarming these places are popping up in airports as well.I just saw on the news that the airport ( can't remember which  one)was going to have a fabulous smelling bakery. Not for sensitive celiacs, this can alter their health during their travel which isn't safe. More awareness really NEEDS to be promoted, so much more than just a food consumption!FYI I did write to Stanislaus to let them know my thoughts on the medical field not knowing much about celiac and how it affects one.I also did message my gi the 3 specialist names that was given on previous post on questions on celiac. I pray its not on deaf door.
