Hashimotos Relation?

I am very aware that celiac/gluten intolerance issues are linked with Hashimotos (autoimmune thyroid disease), but I was just wondering how many people here have both.

I first got hashimotos when I was about 16. I was on heavy thyroid medication and had serious symptoms for a long time, but eventually I got my numbers down and off the medication. About 9 months after, I discovered my gluten intolerance.

I know there is a correlation, but I was just wondering how other people experience it. Which came first? What were you symptoms like?

As far as diagnosis, the hashimotos first in early 2000 and celiac in Sept 2008. Quite awhile between diagnosis. In hindsight I think I may have been celiac long before I got the hashi's diagnosis. I had chronic constipation as an infant/toddler with at least two impactions, as a young child/teenager would have bouts with constipation that I just attributed to needing more fiber and less dairy, and in my early twenties I would get so bloated/distended and constipated I would beg my husband to just rub my belly to make it feel better. I had two miscarriages before my thyroid problem was diagnosed/treated. After diagnosis with the thyroid problem, I went on to have a successful third pregnancy with some minor problems with tachycardic episodes and preterm labor (delivered full term and healthy 8 lb 4 oz baby). Had another miscarriage when my oldest son was around two when my thyroid was out of wack again. My last pregnancy was pretty uneventful with tachy episodes but not as bad as with my first son and he was full term and healthy at 8.5 lbs. Felt great for the first 14 months I breastfed my youngest son. I had a very restricted diet with him because of various reactions. Inadvertantly I was gluten light during that time. I started adding back foods in my diet as he outgrew his problems and it took about 4 months for the severe symptoms to start and that was in Feb. 2006. During the time until my celiac diagnosis I had severe tachycardic episodes that sent me to the ED twice and put on medication for, extreme exhaustion/fatigue, later (much later) anemia diagnosed by my complete blood count, severe heartburn, and eventually found to have extremely low ferritin. I actually am the one who asked my endocrinologist to test me for it but I never initially recieved the whole panel, just the IgA tTg which was positive followed a month later with a positive biopsy.

I also have Hashimoto & Celiac. For years the doctors have said they thought something must be wrong with my thyroid but the only did the general test, never the in depth one. In June I brought this up during allergy testing. The nurse suggested I mention it to the doctor. She sent me for the full thyroid panel. About this same time I was assigned a Nurse Case Manager through my insurance company. She took my results back, as well as my symptoms and had their doctor look over everything. He said he is certain I have Hashimoto's. It will be 2 more weeks before I can be seen by the Endocrinologist. This has been such a long, frustrating wait. My family doctor doesn't think it should be treated which has added to the frustration. If my numbers indicate this as well as my symptoms why not treat it? She says the thyroid isn't damaged yet and is still working but my body is attacking it. I don't want to wait until it is too late and the thyroid is damaged. Have you run into any of this? Did you have a difficult time getting treated?

What treatment are you on? How does it make you feel? Do you feel good now? I've felt so bad for so long. I'm tired of it.

So glad to see that I'm not alone!

I was diagnosed with Hashimotos in 2003 and with celiac disease in August 2010. I have no idea for how long I've had celiac disease. I had gone to a dermatologist for extreme hairfall and she told me to get my thyroid checked. I was postive for anti thyroid antibodies and have been on thyroxine since then. My hairfall continued through the years. I've always been underweight and few months back, I lost weight without trying. Plus my TSH levels were varying from one end to the other in the past 9 months. So went to a new endocrinologist, who suggested that I do the blood test for celiac disease. He felt my body is not absorbing the thyroxine and hence, the varied TSH levels. He also said that if you have one autoimmune disease, you're more likely to have another one. Wonderful, isn't it??!

The blood test came back positive for celiac disease. I've had strange loose stool over the past 10 months or so, which could have been due to celiac disease. Plus, general fatigue sometimes, which I always attributed to Hashimotos.

I have Hashimotos. I don't know whether I'm truly celiac as I was never formally diagnosed.

I have both,

& sle lupus dx 97

2008 told I've had hashimoto's antibodies since 2001 (no treatment until recently)

2008 celiac dx

I never really had typical hypothyroid symptoms other than fatigue, cold body, & dry skin. They found abnormal labs & I have been on levothyroxine for 4 months but haven't noticed any huge difference in the way I feel...my limbs do feel warmer that's about it.

Oh I did see a new GI yesterday he & a couple rhematologists have told me celiac & hashimotos are a common combo.

I do believe that people are under so much pressure up have a sleeping  pattern ,  with working and how households work these days , but in reality there is no wrong or right at to sleep , I believe your neighbour showed this with such a long life , I do exactly the same  at night many times so I hope I live into my nineties also , I have found one thing in life your body knows what's best so good to listen to wat it needs however unconventional that maybe 🤗

Try adding some Thiamine Hydrochloride (thiamine HCl) and see if there's any difference.  Thiamine HCl uses special thiamine transporters to get inside cells.  I take it myself.   Tryptophan will help heal the intestines.  Tryptophan is that amino acid in turkey that makes you sleepy after Thanksgiving dinner.  I take mine with magnesium before bedtime.

I live in the upper mid-west and was just diagnosed with marsh 3c celiac less than a month ago.  As a 51 year old male, I now take a couple of different gluten free vitamins.  I have not noticed any reaction to either of these items.  Both were purchased from Amazon. 1.  Nature Made Multivitamin For Him with No Iron 2.  Gade Nutrition Organic Quercetin with Bromelain Vitamin C and Zinc Between those two, I am ingesting 2000 IU of vitamin D per day. Best of luck, Known1

I am doing a gluten challenge right now and I bought vital wheat gluten so I can know exactly how much gluten I am getting. One tablespoon is 7g so 1½ tablespoons of Vital Wheat Gluten per day will get you to 10g You could add it to bean burgers as a binder or add to hot chocolate or apple sauce and stir.

Raising you vitamin D will increase absorption of calcium automatically without supplementation of calcium.  A high PTH can be caused by low D causing poor calcium absorption; not insuffient calcium intake.  With low D your body is not absorbing calcium from your food so it steals it from your bones.  Heart has priority over bone. I've been taking 10,000 IU D3 a day since 2015.  My doctor says to continue. To fix my lactose intolerance, lots of lactobacillus from yogurts, and brine fermented pickles and saurkraut and olives.  We lose much of our ability to make lactase endogenosly with maturity but a healthy colony of lactobacillus in our gut excretes lactase in exchange for room and board. The milk protein in grass fed milk does not bother me. It tastes like the milk I grew up on.  If I drink commercial milk I get heartburn at night. Some experts estimate that 90% of us do not eat Adequite Intake of choline.  Beef and eggs are the principle source. Iodine deficiency is a growing concern.  I take 600 mcg a day of Liquid Iodine.  It and NAC have accelerated my healing all over.  Virtually blind in my right eye after starting antihypertensive medication and vision is slowly coming back.  I had to cut out starches because they drove my glucose up into the 200+ range.  I replaced them with Red Bull for the glucose intake with the vitamins, minerals and Taurine needed to process through the mitochodria Krebs Cycle to create ATP.  Went from A1c 13 down to 7.9.  Work in progress. Also take B1,B2,B3,B5,B6. Liquid Iodine, Phosphatidyl Choline, Q10, Selenium, D and DHEA.     Choline supplemented as phosphatidylcholine decreases fasting and postmethionine-loading plasma homocysteine concentrations in healthy men +
