Do You Kiss Your Sig. Other After They've Had Gluten

Yes, sounds silly, but I'm just trying to be ultra careful! For instance, after your mate might drink a regular beer or eat pizza, or cookies or anything with gluten. Are you comfortable kissing, and I mean "REALLY" kissing them ;):P

Sometimes I ask my hubby to brush his teeth if he had just eaten gluten.

Yep! He brushes and usually drinks something like a big glass of water. But your preggers so I think you "REALLY" kissed somebody already! ;)

I make him brush his teeth first. Usually he's the one who warns me if he's had gluten.

5 Yrs of gluten-free and this only recently came up for the first time! (We must not kiss enough). I came home late from work and went to give him a hello kiss and he was eating a sandwich and had crumbs all over his lips and teeth. I stopped short and so did he at the same time. Waited until he'd finished, and had something to drink and used a napkin before kissing hello.

I've never been glutened by this before, but I bet we don't kiss enough around eating times!

Yes I definately ask for teeth to be brushed. Learned the hard way with someone who was drinking beer.

My husband likes taking responsibility for this. He's a problem solver. Unfortunately he can't make me well, but he can prevent me from cc through his kisses.

He brushes his teeth first-even before just a little hello kiss. I'm too sensitive to have it otherwise, and we both prefer me healthy!

I go in for the kiss and he turns...I've had gluten!! :) Kills the moment when someone has to brush teeth and swish...but at least I won't feel like crap!!

I'm usually the one reminding.. but I felt ill after kissing my bf after he had beer so now I'm particular about it. I feel bad having him mouthwash/brush teeth for this but it's worth the guilt, lol..

Absolutely! Mine always flosses and brushes- I'm way too sensitive for us to do otherwise. (He also doesn't eat much gluten himself, however) Sometimes I think it's happened anyway after what I call "BIG" gluten (like breads, cakes, cookies- lots of possibilities to stay in teeth) But that would be with...ahem, pardon me.....deep kissing.

Not worth me getting sick for either of us as then the kissing and other related activities become greatly compromised.......

What a bunch of great partners we all have! :D Almost everyone said their partner took the responsibility. I am REALLY impressed. Gosh we are lucky! :D

      Not necessarily. The "Gluten Free" label means not more than 20ppm of gluten in the product which is often not enough for super sensitive celiacs. You would need to be looking for "Certified Gluten Free" (GFCO endorsed) which means no more than 10ppm of gluten. Having said that, "Gluten Free" doesn't mean that there will necessarily be more gluten than "Certified...

      I think it is wise to seek a second opinion from a GI doc and to go on a gluten free diet in the meantime. The GI doc may look at all the evidence, including the biopsy report, and conclude you don't need anything else to reach a dx of celiac disease and so, there would be no need for a gluten challenge. But if the GI doc does want to do more testing, you...

      thank you both for the insights. i agree, im going to back off on dairy and try sucraid. thanks for the tip about protein powder, i will look for whey protein powder/drinks! i don’t understand why my doctor refused to order it either. so i’ve decided i’m not going to her again, and i’m going to get a second opinion with a GI recommended to me b...

I almost said no because she made it in her kitchen but I thought it would be ok.  Next day and for a few after his behavior is awful. Hitting, rude, disrespectful. Mainly he kept saying his legs were shaking. Is this a gluten exposure symptom that anyone else gets? Also the bad behavior?

But if the GI doc does want to do more testing, you can worry about the gluten challenge at that time. But between now and the time of the appointment, if your symptoms improve on a gluten free diet, that is more evidence. Just keep in mind that if a gluten challenge is called for, the bare minimum challenge length is two weeks of the daily consumption of at least 10g of gluten, which is about the amount found in 4-6 slices of wheat bread. But, I would count on giving it four weeks to be sure.

      thank you both for the insights. i agree, im going to back off on dairy and try sucraid. thanks for the tip about protein powder, i will look for whey protein powder/drinks!   i don’t understand why my doctor refused to order it either. so i’ve decided i’m not going to her again, and i’m going to get a second opinion with a GI recommended to me by someone with celiac. unfortunately my first appointment isn’t until February 17th. do you think i should go gluten free now or wait until after i meet with the new doctor? i’m torn about what i should do, i dont know if she is going to want to repeat the endoscopy, and i know ill have to be eating gluten to have a positive biopsy. i could always do the gluten challenge on the other hand if she does want to repeat the biopsy.    thanks again, i appreciate the support here. i’ve learned a lot from these boards. i dont know anyone in real life with celiac.
