Anyone know if Comet cleaner with bleach disinfectant cleaner is gluten free? I have a whole kitchen to clean, and would like to know.

Thanks!

I can't tell you for sure, but I can't imagine that Comet would contain wheat, rye or barley.

Hmm...yeah, you are probably right, and that's probably a stupid question, but you never know! The idea of just spreading gluten all around as I otherwise do my utmost to avoid it just drove me to the telephone and stayed on hold for forever. They told me that no it does not contain gluten. I guess one reason I asked was that there was some discussion about dish liquids containing gluten.

Basically, just being extra sure!

Thanks.

No problem with being extra sure! :)

Ok, while we're on the topic, let me just check back in with you and others, if you don't mind. I'm going home soon, back to the place I've been living for 20 years, after being away about 7 months. When I go to the store, either mainline grocery or some place like Whole Foods or more altie than that, is it ok do you think for me to just pick up whatever kitchen counter top cleaner that I want? I mean, I'm searching on this topic and can't find anything, so like Comet, would gluten just not be in any other type of cleanser either?

Thanks again.

I'm super sensitive to cc, but I do not worry about my countertop cleaners. Then again I do not prepare food directly on my countertops. I alway use a cutting board or plate.

I use Dawn dish soap on my counters. They can't have gritty or acidic cleaners. If you can use acidic cleaners, white vinegar is cheap and works well. Bleach can kill germs.

I use Comet and a ScotchBrite pad on my Calphalon cookware but I also wash them with Dawn before putting them away. I think Comet (at least the kind I have) is too abrasive to use on countertops or stainless steel sinks. I always use cutting boards and don't prepare food directly on my countertops.

For my stainless steel sink I like CLR (got it at either Wal-Mart or Lowe's).

Thanks to everyone who replied. Thanks for the recommendations. I don't really prepare food directly on the countertops either. The reason though, that I need a good cleaner is to wipe away other people's gluten.

Thanks again.

Any good cleaner will do. A bleach cleaner won't kill the gluten, but rather a good spray to dislodge any stuck gluten, like 409 or....

Or just a spray bottle with water? I suppose my point is, do we have to "kill" the residue left behind from a crumb? Or is it ok just to get it up, and maybe wipe a rag across the counter? How severe do I have to get in cleaning a glutened counter top?

Am I to understand that Dawn dish washing detergent is safe? This is a topic that recently came up at home.

Thanks,

You can't "kill" the gluten like you can kill germs. Since it's a protein you would have to burn it to break down the protein (which obviously doesn't work with a countertop, but I have heard you can get rid of gluten in a cast iron pan by heating it at really high temps). Just do your best to wipe it away and don't use towels or sponges that get reused. Use paper towel or something disposible instead. Be sure to wash your hands well after you finish cleaning it up. And then don't let your food touch the countertops. It would really be best if you have to live with gluten-eaters to have a countertop that is designated gluten free and only prepare your food there or vise versa have a gluten only countertop and don't prepare your food on that one surface ever. But that of course depends on your living situation and how co-operative the gluten eaters are. ;)

I react to cleaners, even if they are gluten free. I react to chemicals! I wear gloves when cleaning and have my children do some of it. I hurt after using certain cleaners, whether they have gluten or not.

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
