I made it! I am alive and well! I survived a week with the grandparent in laws!!!!! No glutenings, no food issues, no "Oh you can eat that!"

It was... Bliss....

We even got snowed in (15"!) and my husbands grandmother checked all the seasonings on the chili and then made me something different when she saw I couldn't eat it!!!

There is hope out there. It made me so much more relaxed.

Nice to know you survived both the relatives and the snow. :)

kareng Grand Master

Yeah! I was thinking about you and wondering how it was going. Glad it went well.

Yay! I was wondering how it went. That was a record snowfall for this area. Did you go to Navan or Trader Joes?

Navan AND TJ's!! I shipped some 2 buck chuck home!

It was heaven. They have a mini kitchen in the laundry room and they let me put all my food in there and prep it in there, it worked so well. No pressure, and grandma went to Navan with me and was laughing at me when I loaded up my cart. I tried some lentil chips and they were SO GOOD!!!

It was awesome. So so awesome.

Sounds like you had a great time! I was like that too the first time I went to Navan. I didn't discover it until abotu six months into my diagnosis and I was struggling to find stuff before that (having to go to several stores, etc). It was so hard to choose things I wanted to try, I wanted to try it ALL, lol. I'm so glad you had a successful (and fun) trip.

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
