Dear Food, You Make Me Sick!

So I have been gluten free for 2 years now. When I first changed my diet it was a miracle how much better I felt, then about 6 months ago my stomach ache came back. It has gotten so bad I cannot eat anything. I have been tested for just about everything and nobody can tell me what is wrong. Every dr offers a different med. and explanation. I have been reduced to about half a cup of the blandest food I can find and still I get sick. I have tried plain white rice, still sick. Potatoes: still sick. No food still sick. I have tried plain fresh veggies and still sick. SO what do I do other than slowly starve? I hate food!!!!! Grrrrrr.....

I am wondering if you have removed soy from your diet? Many of us react to soy the same as to gluten. Also, do you avoid dairy? I remember that unless you eat soy-free Earth Balance that there is no way of having a spread without soy or dairy in the U.S. These are frequently two bad actors in the celiac's diet.

Remove all soy and corn from your diet. That means in supplements and in vitamins too. Many Celiacs discover they are intolerant to both. They are in hidden ingredients just like gluten. Corn is in citric acid and ascorbic acid. I have begun to feel better after I stopped taking my gluten-free supplements that contained corn and soy. I've read the same about other Celiacs who did the same.

Definitely look at corn. Once I really started paying attention I realized I've been reacting to corn for years, I just didn't realize it. You might have other symptoms that you aren't associating with a food. For me, I get cold symptoms about 4 hours after ingesting corn and my eyes and nose gets very sensitive to any type of perfume or scent. I then wake up the next morning draaaaaaging and feeling sick.

All that to say, maybe pick up the food journal again (I didn't at first but it helps a lot!) and take another look at different foods especially corn and soy.

I really am sorry you're not feeling good. I know it's the pits. :(

I got down to just meat and water because I was always sick after I ate....long before I knew about gluten making me sick every time I ate.

But having said that, meat and poultry...do they make you sick? They never made me sick...I got tired of eating them but I was never protein deficient then. Do you eat meat and chicken? What is your protein source?

Of course I don't recommend meat only....but temporarily when I am sick or don't feel well that is what I do. It works for me and it might be that protein deficiency is causing nausea and feelings of illness.

Do a google of protein deficiency and see if any of it applies to you.

Thank you all for your replies. I have removed everything from my diet and slowly trying to reintroduce one thing a time into my body so far nothing has worked. Plain meat= still sick, plain veggies=still sick. So far the only thing I have found is greek yogurt with honey it did not make me ill.

Everything else is baddddd. I either get very very nauseated or it feels like i have eaten razor blades. I am at my wits end. I have lost alot of weight and my family is very worried. But every time I eat I regret it immediately. So I am hungry all the time and feel like I am going to lose it! Any home remedies you can suggest would be appreiciated.

Thanks

Big clue here.....greek yogurt with honey! Natural probiotics in the yogurt. Cut out all the sugars in any form and all grains and starches of any kind for the time being. Get two or three bottle of PB8 Pro-biotics and a couple bottles of saccharomyces boulardii (I recommend Vitamin Shoppe for prices). You will probably have to get the boulardii online, but you should be able to get an initial bottle PB8 at a local health food store. However the price I normally see in stores is $18-20, online I get it for $11. Make sure you keep them both in the fridge as they are both live.

Start with two capsules of PB8. Open them and sprinkle them into the yogurt. Mix them in and let them come to room temp and sit for 15-20 minutes. The probiotics are live, this will kick-start them and they will start multiplying immediately and the yogurt will buffer them from your stomach acids AND give them a growth medium. Then down the yogurt. Remember to cut out all sugars, starches, and grains. Your intestines need to be alkaline not acidic. Take the PB8 twice a day for two days and see how you react. Then increase to three times a day for a couple days, then increase to three capsules 3x day. Add in the boulardii (just take the capsules) twice a day with the yogurt.

Blend up organic baby spinach in a blender with some organic unsweetened coconut milk and a half a bananna. This will help get prebiotic foods into your intestinal tract which will give the necessary good bacteria something to live on. You may have a serious candida problem or some other type of intestinal flora imbalance (google intestinal dysbiosis). If you do have this, then you may be suffering from malabsorption as well since much of the nutrients from the bacteria breakdown wouldn't be present since they (the good bacteria) aren't present.

Start by re-introducing full fat chicken broth and beef broth (preferably home-made) from stew meat or a chicken you boil down into broth. Drink a cup of the broth with every meal. If you can stomach it and you can get your hands on grass-fed organic beef liver, there just about isn't any food that is more nutrient dense than liver. I can give you a couple recipes for preparing it that might help make it more palatable to you.

The full fat part above is critical because your stomach and liver enzymes contain everything you need to digest fat and meat and your intestines don't have to do any work at all. This helps take some of the nutrient load off them. Your intestinal flora are only necessary to digest non-animal foods. This will help get both nutrient and energy dense foods without putting a strain on your intestines.

By the way, I would also strongly recommend you talk to a GI specialist if at all possible and make sure that you don't have some type of ulcer or other issue going on.

Interesting, when I suffered for a few months with ectopics I noticed that carbohydrates would cause indigestion and bloating in my stomach, then that would lead to my heart skipping beats, and I could feel it in my throat, it was very unsettling.  My last serious bout of this was after eating a Muller Rice Pudding for breakfast.   I happened to be wearing a 48 hour halter at the time and cardiology picked it up, but they weren't worried about what they saw. There was some British doctor who'd made some videos on the Vagus nerve that I remember watching at the time which made sense of what I was experiencing, there did seem to be some sort of connection.

I asked my cardiologist about stopping vitamins.  He said his tests account for all detectable vitamins from sources other than food.  I only need to stop them for a couple of days.  He has me keep records of meds and vitamins I've ingested over the past 10 days and prior and he does his calculations.

Reply to treats I try and eat to bring up the glucose. Sometime I get up 3 times a night and eat something. I don't think food is the issue. A lot of the food they say should help doesn't.  Many mornings my level is 59 and I feel sick, sometimes for hours. It has been recommended I go to an Endocrinologist.
