So, it's after midnight and I'm still up with a belly ache reminiscent of my 20's.

It's like my stomach is a hard knot and is knotted into a painful ball.

It hit outta nowhere. Just cooking dinner, happy as could be and wham!

I don't know what did it, but wish I knew. I suspect pms. Don't laugh!

I keep having bm's but no D (and I didn't have C).

If it isn't pms then it's gluten and I soooooo hope it isn't gluten. And this time no minty stuff so I can't blame that.

Unless I have another intolerance - but it's awfully funny how I get one day of stomach upset around the same week each month since January. And as far as pms goes, this is enough to make a saint homicidal. This is pain on the labor pain level. This is go-to-sleep and hope its gone when you wake up kind of pain.

I wonder if it's acid? Pms triggering an acid attack???

Ugh.

I don't know what it is but stomach tied in a knot sounds like pms to me. It usually comes with lower back/ side pain :-( I also got my period yesterday and have spent my morning lying on my back.

Can't you take any painkillers?

pricklypear1971 Community Regular

I think, after going an entire night with it, that it's acid.

I don't know why....

I've learned not to take anything if my stomach is acidic - except maybe an antacid which was nowhere to be found at 12 am... I haven't taken one in years.

I'm wiped out. I slept a little but YUCK. I can't believe I used to function like this. Although, I was better at sleeping it off back then and I had gotten quite good at very fast visualization to make the acid stop. Evidently I've lost that skill...

Still no period but I have had some fabulous cramps. Yay?

I still wonder if I got into gluten and that was a reaction. Hubs drank a beer, brushed his teeth, and then we kissed. I've never had a problem before but this time there wasn't any lapse between the beer/brush/kiss. Don't think we've ever cut it that close before.

Unfortunately I did try a new food yesterday, but I've eaten their products before without problem. I did get a haircut yesterday, and I always run the risk of getting into topical stuff there.... I guess I'll never know.

I still think its pms. Yuck.

As part of the mentral cycle a small cyst on the ovary bursts and sends an egg down the fallopian tube. Sometimes the cyst has grown bigger than it should, or can cause pain when it bursts. It might be that? With such a sudden onset, and due to the location, and that it's happening around the same time each month that would be my guess.

I hope it isn't gluten too!

I know what you're talking about (because I've felt it and thought I had appendicitis) but this is definitely my stomach! :). Way up right under the v of my ribs.

I do think it's linked to my cycle. This is the first time I've had acid, though. The past few months it's just been horrid d - and I'd eaten something minty.

I have no idea, really. Sigh.

I feel hung over.

what are acid problems?

Sorry you're not feeling well, and that there are too many things to consider and can't figure out which :-(

Too much acid in my stomach. I used to have a terrible time with it when I was younger but it went away the last 10 years or so....

and acid pain is similar to period pain?

I think that is tbd. Generally, its in two different spots but I've been known to get some general nausea and d from pms.

I have belly cramps and uterine cramps. I'm lucky.

Sorry hun ;-( Hope it passes quickly. I sadly have the least experience about anything so don't have any input, and my sense of humor seems to have lost it's way recently. All I can do offer hugs. Would it help to just lie down? That's what I'm doing today. Let your family take care of you for the day!

Thank you Dani :).

I am feeling better. The burning finally stopped. I just ate and we'll see what happens. Going to the store for an antacid just in case :(

I echo that :-( Let us know how you're feeling (if you get better or worse)

I hope you continue to feel better, Prickly!

Gotta love the unexplained, sudden stomach/abdominal pain.

I agree with Dani

I had pressure/pain in that v spot below my rib cage when I had acid reflux. It made me feel so awful. Sometimes it felt like something was trying to burst its way out of my chest. I had this really bad when I would eat acidic foods (oranges, tomatoes etc) after going gluten free, and then again if I got glutened then I would be sensitive to it again for awhile. I hope you are feeling better again soon.

pricklypear1971 Community Regular

I think it was gluten. From necking with my hubs.

No more stomach cramps, but a little but if acid, then queasy.

Woke up at 2:30 am with weird cramps in my leg and foot.

So far I don't feel like I got caned or have neuro issues, or feel spacey so maybe it wasn't as bad as December. Shouldn't have been - it was beer breath after a tooth brushing - not a plate if noodles.

Ugh.

Missed this thread until now. So sorry you're feeling ????? something. Glad it appears to be somewhat better & hope that will continue to be the trend.

Echo:

F*&^ing celiac ---- have to put a timer on time lapsed between brushing teeth & necking. Sheesh!

Will we have to worry if they burp while kissing us? Gluten gas transference?laugh.giflaugh.giflaugh.gif GGT for short.laugh.giflaugh.giflaugh.gif

:( I'm sorry that you aren't feeling better. Stupid gluten...

Fingers crossed that it passes quickly.

dani nero Community Regular

Hope it passes quickly :-( I guess that was what we'd call the poisonous kiss.

Get well soon sweetie!

dani nero Community Regular

But how can there be gluten in his mouth after brushing his teeth?

Ninja Contributor

Maybe he didn't floss?

pricklypear1971 Community Regular

I am guessing that's what happened.

Think about it, you never get everything out of your mouth when you brush. And he literally swigged the last gulp, brushed his teeth, and then we made out. No delay between.

We've never had this problem before but we've never cut it that close before. Always been a few hours later, at least.

dani nero Community Regular

and you didn't do or anything that could have been cc that day? :-O

pricklypear1971 Community Regular

Everything I ate was at home. I did eat a pizza from a gluten-free bakery but it's so safe it's silly. I won't use their name because I don't want people to think its that. I know it's not that.

I got a haircut but I checked everything they used and it's gluten-free and I've used it all before. Plus, I didn't get a rash on my scalp and I always get that if they use something with gluten in it by accident (gel, spray).

If its gluten (and I'm pretty sure it was ) it was the beery kiss.

It may also be hormones/pms. I don't know.

I kind of think it's both...I think the belly ache may be gluten and the pms may be cramps. Maybe it's worse from the estrogen cream (which I'll never use again) and the probable gluten. I dunno.

Every time I eat I get a full feeling that enzymes take away. Something is up with my stomach and it isn't burned from acid (I know what that feels like). My best guess is gluten.

And beer is Tge only gluten in the house :). Or was....

JNBunnie1 Community Regular

I have a friend who is so sensitive that if her husband eats gluten and then they kiss the next DAY she reacts, apparently small particles of everything you eat gets inside your salivary glands, so even though he'd brushed a few times by then, she got glutened. Yikes~!

Yes.  Now, if you hit your finger with a hammer once, wouldn't you do your best not to do it again?  You have identified a direct connection between gluten and pain.  Gluten is your hammer.  Now you have to decide if you need a medical diagnosis.  Some countries have aid benefits tgat you can get if you have the diagnosis, but you must continue eating a gluten-normal diet while pursuing the diagnosis. Otherwise the only reason to continue eating gluten is social. There are over 200 symptoms that could be a result of celiac disease.. Celiac Disease and Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity  both cause multiple vitamin and mineral deficiency.  Dealing with that should help your recovery, even while eating gluten.  Phosphatidyl Choline supplements can help your gut if digesting fats is a problem,  Consider that any medications you take could be causing some of the symptoms, aside from gluten.

Welcome to the forum, @Ben98! If you have been consciously or unconsciously avoiding gluten because of the discomfort it produces then it is likely that your blood antibody testing for celiac disease has been rendered invalid. Valid testing requires regular consumption of generous amounts of gluten. The other strong possibility is that you have NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity) which shares many of the same symptoms with celiac disease but does not have the autoimmune component and thus does not damage the small bowel lining. It is 10x mor common than celiac disease. There is currently no test for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out. Some experts in the field believe it can be a precursor to the development of celiac disease. Having one or both of the primary genes for developing celiac disease does not imply that you will develop active celiac disease. It simply establishes the potential for it. About 40% of the population has the genetic potential but only about 1% develop active celiac disease.

TTG blood test and total IGA tested on many occasions which have always remained normal, upper GI pain under my ribs since 2022. I had an endoscopy in 2023 which showed moderate gastritis. no biopsy’s were taken unfortunately. genetic test was positive for HLADQ2. extreme bloating after eating gluten, it’ll feel like I’ve got bricks in my stomach so uncomfortably full. the pain is like a dull ache under the upper left almost like a stitch feeling after a long walk. I am just wanting some advice has anyone here experienced gastritis with a gluten issue before? thank you

"Conclusions: The urinary iodine level was significantly lower in women with postmenopausal osteoporosis, and iodine replacement may be important in preventing osteoporosis"  Body iodine status in women with postmenopausal osteoporosis Low iodine can cause thyroid problems, but Iodine deficiency will not show up in thyroid tests.  Iodine is important for healing, its job is to kill off defective and aging cells (Apoptosis). Skin, brain fog, nails, muscle tone all inproved when I started taking 600 mcg (RDA 150 - 1000 mcg) of Liquid Iodine drops. Some with dermatitis herpetiformis, Iodine exacerbates the rash.  I started at 1 drop (50 mcg) and worked up to 12 drops, but I don't have dermatitis herpetiformis.
