So I was stuck out for about 18 hours yesterday, and really needed to get some good food about 12 hours into the day.

I thought about my options, and decided on a burrito bowl from Chipotle.

While I was standing in line, i thought over and over - do I just order the right/safe ingredients or do I tell her I have celiac disease. There were a lot of people in line, and I've never done it before in this kind of setting so I was nervous.

I decided I couldn't afford yet another contamination if I could help it, so I told the first woman.

Instantly she swung into action - what will you want? I told her. She got out new/fresh canisters of all of those ingredients and new utensils to scoop them with.

Before starting she wiped down the counter extra good.

It was so good to see well trained employee's.

They are going to be my first choice in eating out for a quick meal.

WOW what a great experience. We've never had that kind of experience at Chipotles. Maybe they have changed their practices. Do you mind telling what City you were in? I've asked for new/uncross contacted containers of the food, and they always say they don't have any, only what is on the line. They have never offered to get new containers, even after I've asked. I am happy you had a good experience. We haven't tried ours for a year or so because of getting sick from cross contact, so maybe we will try them again and see if they have new practices. Thank you for sharing your positive experience. We will check our local Chipotles again. We live in the Phoenix area.

What excellent service. Not all franchise type establishments operate the same so if you got great service at that location, I would give them all your business. We had a Maggie Moo's (ice cream) that gave us great service like that and they got all of our ice cream business until they went under :(

Tonight I'm going to write Chipotle corporate and let them know how great the experience was, and how absolutely important it is for us.

Having a teenager respond with well trained understanding was so much more than I expected.

Wow, that sure ain't gonna happen in my part of the world. All the Chipotle's I've been to here in SW Ohio are totally rude. I was at the Springboro location once and a women told the girl behind the counter that her little boy had peanut allergy. The girl literally said "well, we don't sale peanut butter and jelly burritos here. So what do you want"!! The women decided to eat elsewhere.

That said, I love Chipotle's. Delicious stuff! :)

That stinks, obviously the franchise owner in that area is hands off the day to day operation. The chain is so popular that they must make plenty of money without being a well run operation.

You may not have the same great experience with others that work there. It would be great if that was a routine process for dealing with gluten avoiding customers.

I hope you remember the name of the person that waited on you. They deserve a raise!

Wow, I hope the ones in Tucson are so accommodating! Would love a veggie and rice bowl!

I have eaten at Chipotle probably 20 times since my diagnosis and never had a problem. They immediately take gloves off, wash hands, and put new gloves on. I get a bowl, and they get a new container of cheese from the back, because they use gloves instead of utensils in the cheese. They are nice and accomodating and because of that, get lots of our business :)

I'd be willing to bet that those who have had good experience got a server who either has celiac or knows someone who does. My Mom used to eat at a local restaurant where the manager's aunt had it, so she knew what to do. It was the ONLY place Mom knew she could eat safely, and it also just happened to be the best reataurant in the area. They're still open, so if anyone ever happens to be in the Plainfield/Brooklyn, Connecticut area, check out Cozy Corner. I MISS that place!

Last time I looked, Chipotle doesn't have franchise owners. All of the restaurants are owned by the company.

Service and quality must vary a lot from place to place. The last time I ate at Chipotle (before going gluten-free) there was uncooked pork in my burrito bowl. I told the manager, and she didn't care at all and didn't even offer a refund so I just threw it in the trash. Ended up calling the local health department about it. It turned my stomach, and the thought of eating there again makes me feel nauseous :(

Did the food taste good? I've never eaten there because my dad said the food was flavorless.

I did hear rumor that Chipotle might have franchised a very few restaurants early on, but it hasn't done so for years now.

They do, however, have Chipotle employees who oversee their restaurants.

Chipotle is my go to option for lunch twice a week as there is a location near my office. I loved this place before being diagnosed two years ago, I now get a bowl and never mention needing special care. So far so good for me.

      nothing has changed

      Scott, I am mostly asymptomatic. I was diagnosed based on high antibodies, low ferritin and low vitamin D. I wasn't able to get in for the biopsy until 3 months after the blood test came back. I was supposed to keep eating gluten during this time. Well why would I continue doing something that I know to be harmful for 3 more months to just get this test...

      I was undiagnosed for decades. My ferritin when checked in 2003 was 3. It never went above 10 in the next 20 years. I was just told to "take iron". I finally requested the TTgIgA test in 2023 when I was well and truly done with the chronic fatigue and feeling awful. My numbers were off the charts on the whole panel. they offered me an endoscopic biopsy ...

      Scott, I agree with everything you said except the term "false negative". It should be a "true negative" just plain negative. I actually looked up true/false negative/positive as it pertains to testing. The term "false negative" would be correct if you are positive (have anti-bodies) and the test did not pick them up. That would be a problem with the "test...

      I realized it is actually important to get an official diagnosis because then insurance can cover bone density testing and other lab work to see if any further damage has been done because of it. Also, if hospitalized for whatever reason, I have the right to gluten-free food if I am officially celiac. I guess it gives me some legal protections. Plus, I have...

      Scott, I am mostly asymptomatic. I was diagnosed based on high antibodies, low ferritin and low vitamin D. I wasn't able to get in for the biopsy until 3 months after the blood test came back. I was supposed to keep eating gluten during this time. Well why would I continue doing something that I know to be harmful for 3 more months to just get this test? So I did quit gluten and had the biopsy. It was negative for celiacs. I continued gluten free with iron supps and my ferritin came back up to a reasonable, but not great level of around 30-35.  Could there be something else going on? Is there any reason why my antibodies would be high (>80) with a negative biopsy? could me intestines have healed that quickly (3 months)?  I'm having a hard time staying gluten free because I am asymptomatic and i'm wondering about that biopsy. I do have the celiacs gene, and all of the antibody tests have always come back high. I recently had them tested again. Still very high. I am gluten free mostly, but not totally. I will occasionally eat something with gluten, but try to keep to a minimum. It's really hard when the immediate consequences are nil.  with high antibodies, the gene, but a negative biopsy (after 3 months strict gluten-free), do i really have celiacs? please say no. lol. i think i know the answer.  Asa

      I have had a long year of testing unfortunately still not diagnosed , although one thing they definitely agree I'm gluten intolerant, the thing for me I have severe back troubles they wouldnt perform the tests and I couldn't have a full MRI because I'm allergic to the solution , we tryed believe me  I tryed lol , another was to have another blood test after consuming gluten but it makes me so bad I tryed it for only a week, and because I have a trapped sciatic nerve when I get bad bowels it sets that off terribly so I just take it on myself now , I eat a gluten free diet , I'm the best I've ever been , and if I slip I know it so for me i have my own diagnosis  and I act accordingly, sometimes it's not so straight forward for some of us , for the first time in years I can plan to go out , and I have been absorbing my food better , running to the toilet has become occasionally now instead of all the time , i hope you find a solution 🤗

My numbers were off the charts on the whole panel.  they offered me an endoscopic biopsy 3 months later, but that i would need to continue eating gluten for it to be accurate. so i quit eating gluten and my intestine had healed by the time i had the biopsy (i'm guessing??). Why else would my TTgIgA be so high if not celiacs? Anyway, your ferritin will rise as your intestine heals and take HEME iron (brand 4 arrows). I took 20mg of this with vitamin c and lactoferrin and my ferritin went up, now sits around 35.  you will feel dramatically better getting your ferritin up, and you can do it orally with the right supplements. I wouldn't get an infusion, you will get as good or better results taking heme iron/vc/lf.

That would be a problem with the "test" itself. If you were gluten-free and got tested, you more than likely would test "true" negative or just negative. This means that the gluten-free diet is working and no anti-bodies should be present. I know it sounds confusing and if you don't agree feel free to respond.

If I really do have it then they may have increased risk.
